Saturday Morning…? [1-03-2015]

Originally published January 3, 2015

Saturday morning... Looks like the rain is letting up. Checked the local ponds and noted water levels are up.

Have not heard from the Team about the action at Bethany Lakes but will post an update as soon as they report in.

That said, here is a picture showing the water is flowing at Bethany Creek Pond (just up the road from Bethany Lakes)!

Water is flowing!

Bethany Creek, then Bethany Lakes This Round

Checked out Bethany Creek; caught two Bass using a Lefty Deceiver.  No Bruisers but did see a couple of nice looking ones lurking in the area!

Then, went down the road to the Back Pond at Bethany Lakes.  Noticed the area nearest the Feeder Creek was covered with algae.  Went on to the deeper end, and worked a Foam Spider.  Caught three Bluegill and two more Bass!

Fun stuff!

Rip and Rap Rapala Does Well Yesterday

Went with a Rip and Rap Rapala Crankbait that we picked up from Cabelas.  Fished Bethany Creek pond - pond  that we had not fished in a while.  Caught a White Bass and a little Bass.  Then, moved on to Bethany Lakes and managed four more Bass!

More Bass and a Panfish....

Fished the pond at Bethany Creek Park; had not fished it for some time. Brought Senkos and a Hula Popper.  Ended up catching three little Bass, then went down the road to Bethany Lakes and caught two more Bass and a Panfish.  One Bass went for the Hula Popper, else it was Senkos all around!

Bethany Creek, Then Bethany Lakes

Short video clip of today's outing.  Fished Bethany Creek's pond and caught a Bass on a Foam Rubber Spider Variant.  Hit the fishing fly hard while it sat motionless on the surface.

Then, went down the road to Bethany Lakes to fish the Lower Pond by the Recreation Center.  Caught a few Bluegill just before dark.  Fish kept hitting well after sunset as well.

Fun Stuff!

PS:  Been asked what fishing fly we are using.  We call it a Foam Rubber Spider Variant.  Very easy fishing fly to tie.  Here is a video of instructions on how we tie them.

Bluegill and a Sunfish and a Lot of Frustration!

Fished Bethany Creek Park and worked the Brown Damsel Fly Variant.  Water was crystal clear and could see little, medium, and Bruiser Bass cruising the canal.  Had several go for the fishing fly but none were hooked solid.  Even had one that went easily over 4 pounds take the fishing fly twice.  Bottomline: A lot of frustration seeing them strike without one landed.

Shifted over to Bethany Lakes and noted several spawning beds had been worked over with a cast net.  Looks like that area is done this spawning season.  (Note: Pole and line fishing is the only leqal means to fish in a community lake).

Not wanting to leave without catching anything, decided to fish the canal with a White Damsel Fly in Size 10.  Caught a Bluegill and a Sunfish!

Next round, may need to shift over to trying to catch the Bruiser Koi that are lurking in the Main Pond for now.

One Little Bluegill

Had a late start today. But, did make it out.  Fished a Tenko Worm and had one Bass take a look at it.  Switched to an Antron Nymph and caught a little Bluegill. Then, had to call it quits early.

Restocked Supplies From Cabelas, Then Struck Out at Bethany... Rain/Lightning?

Finally made it to Cabelas and picked up a Hula Popper to replace the one lost the other day.

Also, picked up a Heddon Lucky 13, a Deer Hair Bug, and some fly-tying material.

Then, ran down to Bethany and fished the Lucky 13.

Had one decent strike but no hookup.  Called it quits early because of the lightning and the downpour!

Jitterbug Gets Two Bass at Bethany Creek....

Fished Bethany Creek this evening.  Fished a Carolina-Rigged Senko Worm at first.  Had a decent strike but lost it soon after.  Switched to a Jitterbug and had another strike but lost it as well.  Kept working the Jitterbug, finally catching a Bass that struck the lure as soon as it landed on the water.  After a number of casts later, caught a decent Bass that went about 16" in size!
