After fishing the mid-morning at Bethany Lakes, decided to go back in the afternoon with fly fishing gear. Caught Sunfish using the COAF Guadalupana, then a Bass on a COAF Damsel Fly, and then another Bass on a Near Deere. Followed by a couple of Bluegill and a Fingerling Bass on the Near Deere. Great time fishing the local lake. Sure beats work!

Hit Bethany this evening and caught a few fish - one Bass and some Bluegill; slower action but still good to get away! Used a COAF Foam Damsel Fly and a COAF Damsel Fly. Fun stuff on a Four Weight!

Brought the Switch Rod and fished Plano East Senior High School's catch and release ponds. Slow action this time but did manage to hook up with four fish. First one was a little Bluegill that went for a Purple COAF Damsel Fly. Second one was a Sunfish that also went for the Damsel Fly. Next, was a Catfish that went for a Tube Damsel Fly in purple marabou. Last one was a Bass that took the Purple COAF Damsel Fly as well. Took a quick measure of the Bass; went just under 15"! Fun stuff!
Hoping for a repeat of yesterday with the purple COAF Damsel Fly. Caught some nice looking Catfish yesterday. Today, caught Bass. No Bruisers but still a fun time, especially on a Four Weight!
Fished Bethany Lakes this evening. Late start on a windy day. Started out trying to get a Bass or two on a Tube Popper Fly. Two missed strikes and lots of wind to deal with made for a change. Decided to switch to a COAF Damsel Fly. The one we tie with Purple Marabou and Red Tying Thread. Used a Gold Bead Chain and size 10 hook (ran out of size 8 hooks). Glad we switched to it; caught four Catfish, three Bass, and a Bluegill. Three of the Catfish went 17"-18"; one went about 15". They put up a good fight especially on the four weight fly rod!
Fished Bethany Lakes this morning and caught a few Bass and Bluegill/Sunfish. Then, checked out another pond and caught Bluegill, and then one Bass that went 14" in size! Used several fishing flies - Tube Popper Fly, COAF Guadalupana, Purple COAF Damsel Fly, Foam Damsel Fly, and a Balsa Popper Fly. Overall, the Bass went for the Purple COAF Damsel Fly; Bluegill went for the Balsa Popper Fly.

Rain and more rain this morning. Decided to put on rain gear, and give Bethany Lakes a try. Good thing... caught Bass, a couple of Bruiser Catfish, and then lost a big one (think it was a Catfish). Bent the fly rod double; same fly rod that was used to land a 6 pound bass several years ago. The Bass did not bend the fly rod near as much as the one that was lost today! Fun stuff... good to know Bruisers are still lurking in the area. The Bass, one of the Catfish, and the lost fish took the Purple COAF Damsel Fly. The other Catfish went for a COAF San Juan Worm Ball. Fun stuff!
Went back out for another round of fishing; this time went to Bethany Lakes. Having run out this morning, tied a purple COAF Damsel Fly to restock the fly box. This time used red tying thread instead of olive. Not sure if it made a difference but did catch eight Bass this round. Fun stuff!
Decided to fish Stoney Hollow again. Same setup as yesterday - Five Weight Rod and a COAF Damsel Fly. Windy conditions but the action was steady. Caught three Bass and a Sunfish, and then had video camera issues. Ended up erasing the video; User error! No worries; kept fishing and caught two Crappie and a Bass and Bluegill using the Purple COAF Damsel Fly in size 12. And then, lost the fishing fly to a snag on the backcast. Switched to an Olive COAF Damsel Fly in size 10 and caught more Bass and Bluegill. Not sure how many were caught and released as well as threw the hook; no matter... had a great time fishing! PS: Need to tie more; down to one Olive COAF Damsel Fly and no Purple ones. Gave one away to another fisherman; hope it helps him catch a Bass or two!
Decided to fish Stoney Hollow Park pond in Plano Friday evening. Had good success there in the past. This round went with a five weight fly rod and a Purple COAF Damsel Fly in size 12. Been having good success with the size 12 lately. This round started slow but did pick up with Bass, Bluegill, Sunfish, and a Crappie! Did see a Bruiser Bass lurking in the area but was not interested in a fishing fly. Fun stuff; gonna have to come back for another round later!
Not able to go fishing today. But, did make a few COAF Damsel Flies. Tied them with purple Marabou on a size 12 streamer hook. Hope to try them out soon!
Slow day today but did manage to catch a little Sunfish. Followed by a missed strike, and then a Bass to closeout this round. Fun stuff even on a slow day!
Checked out the Feeder Creek that runs into Shadow Lakes this morning. Saw Bass on beds; tough fishing with fly fishing gear as the brush and tree limbs tend to snag the fly line. Did get one Bass to take a COAF Damsel Fly that was crawled slowly across its bed. But, ended up losing it when it ran for a brush pile and broke off. Later in the afternoon, fished the pond behind In-N-Out Burger and struck out! Moved on to the Catch and Release Ponds at Plano East Senior High School. After an hour without a strike using various fishing flies, went to the Size 12 COAF Damsel Fly after noticing small fry hugging close to the banks. Worked the undercut banks and was able to hook and land three Bass. Fun stuff...!
Decided to try some other places to fish this round. Started at Russell Creek Park Pond in Plano. Was hoping to fish for Bluegill in their beds using the Size 12 COAF Damsel Fly. Ended up striking out. Went on to the pond at Davis Library and struck out again. Did try for Bass in their beds but no takers. Also, tried a Bread Fly on several large Koi. No luck either. Moved on to Oak Point Park Preserve in Plano; managed one little Bass on the Size 12 COAF Damsel Fly. Went on to Allen and tried Kroger Park Pond (officially Bethany Ridge Park). Saw several Bass but no Bluegill; Bass were not interested in being caught! Then, went across the street to Bethany Lakes and caught several Bass using the COAF Damsel Fly. Had to call it quits though but... Made one last stop at the Feeder Creek that flows into the Shadow Lakes series of ponds. Managed a Bass, lost a decent Bass, and then caught several Panfish to include a Longear Sunfish, a Sunfish, and a Bluegill. Liked the smaller Size 12 COAF Damsel Fly but be prepared for smaller fish overall.
