Sunfish and Bluegill On the Fly This Round

Late start today and short on time.  Decided to try for Sunfish and Bluegill on the fly at Celebration Park's North Pond.  Started with a GRHEN, then switched to a Size 20 Dry Fly.  A lotta of small bugs in the air and falling on to the water's surface that the fish were feeding on. No Bruisers but still lots of fun!  Even caught a Shad or Minnow looking thing!

Catfish and Bullheads on Bread!

Enjoying the later sunset since the time change this past weekend. Been tough getting a round in fishing but did manage to get out for a quick trip to Celebration Park's East Pond.

Fished with Bread and free-lined it using Spinning Gear.  Also, brought the hook setter we bought a couple of years or so ago. Was able to catch a Bullhead and a Catfish with the hook setter and another Bullhead without it.

The Bullheads went about 12" in size with big tummies probably from all the Bread in the water. The Catfish was a Bruiser, estimating ~22" in size!  This one makes the Fish Bulletin Board!

Caught a Few Scrappy Ones This Round

Short on time but the urge to fish would not go away.  Decided to grab the four weight fly rod and a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly and head to the North Pond at Celebration Park.

Really light strikes but luckily got a fix on the hook set and caught a few Sunfish and Bluegill! Have found that catching these scrappy ones makes good practice for the Rainbow Trout that are soon to be stocked in the community lakes and ponds!

Fun stuff.... now going to hunker down during the cold front that is soon to arrive.

A Stick, a Line, and a Fly at Celebration This Round!

Simple fishing this evening catching little Bluegill and Sunfish on a Tenkara Rod.  Used a Tenkara Fly until we lost it to a snag. Switched to a Guadalupana without a break in the action... Fun Stuff!

Fishing on the Fly at Celebration

Checked out the North Pond at Celebration Park yesterday.  Noticed a lot of fish activity the day before, so decided to try a Streamer and a Dry Fly.  Caught a few Sunfish and Bluegill on the Streamer; caught more on the Dry Fly!  Lost count but would say 30+ were caught and released.  No Bruisers but still a lot of fun!

Only One Fish This Round... But It Was a Bruiser!

Cold front rolled in and the wind was rough.  Decided to check out the East Pond at Celebration Park for a chance at a Catfish.  Used Bread for bait and Ultralight Gear; only caught one this round.  But, it was a Bruiser Catfish that went 22.5" in size!  Fun stuff!

Caught Three This Round at Celebration!

Went back to Celebration Park for more Catfish fishing using Bread for bait.  Used a syringe to pack the bread into compact, bait sized pieces to put on the hook.  Managed to catch and release three Catfish - two were Bruisers that went 18" and 23" in size!  Fun stuff... Bubble Float seems to be working!

One Bruiser at Celebration!

Tested out a bait recipe for our Trot Line at Celebration Park's East Pond.  Need to work on it a little more.  Did manage to catch a Bruiser that went 24" in length using Bread for bait!  Fun stuff!

Wooley Rooster Martin at Celebration This Round

Went with a Wooley Rooster Martin for a quick trip to Celebration Park.  Fished the East Pond and caught little Bluegill.  Even had a White Egret lurking nearby trying to steal our fish as we released them.  No Bruisers but fun stuff especially using a homemade inline spinner!

Wooley Martin Field Test Goes Well

Was able to field test the Wooley Martin this evening after work.  Caught little Panfish at Celebration Park.  Went on to Bethany Lakes and caught a nice Sunfish and a little Bass.  Cool front changed the pattern but was good to see the Wooley Martin did its job - catching fish. Really like the Wooley Martin because the blade spins easily even when retrieved slooooowly!

Wooley Martin gets nine Panfish and a little Bass!

Two Bullheads and Three Bruisers!

Fished Celebration again. This time caught two Bullheads like the last few times. And then, caught and released three Bruisers! First went 19", second came close to 21", and the last one went 20".

Bullheads were caught on Boilies using a Hair Rig and Method Feeder. Bruisers were caught on Boilies and a Hair Rig too but freelined the bait instead of using the Method Feeder.

Fun stuff!!!

PS:  Here is a video clip of the action:

Two More Bullheads Again This Evening, No Bruisers!

Same old, same old,... two more Bullheads at Celebration. Caught one freelining bread; caught the other with the Korda Method Feeder. Still a bust on catching whatever straightened the hook the other day!

Did test out a homemade electronic strike indicator using a battery powered door alarm from the Dollar Store. Worked out nicely, especially when fishing in the dark. Not bad for a dollar!

Also, many thanks to TFF's mikes14 on posting pics of fish caught using the Damsel Fly on the forum (link to post). Been a consistent producer for the Team each year. Even better, it's a simple fly to tie!

New Fishing Rod Arrived... MadDragon 2234

New fishing rod arrived.  Ordered it online from Bass Pro Shops.  It is a Carp Fishing Rod made by Daiwa (Model MadDragon 2234).  It's twelve foot long with a 2.75 lbs test curve.  Added a Penn Reel to it and fished it this evening.  Bite was slow, catching only one Bullhead.  Regardless, like the new rod.  Hope to get a Bruiser or two with it!

Two More Bullheads and a Straightened Hook!

Been having fun fishing with the Method Feeder.  This round mixed up a batch of "boilie mix" to go with the Method Feeder and Hair Rig.  Fun stuff,... caught two more Bullheads at Celebration Park, then had a fish straighten the hook.  Same hook we used to catch Catfish up to 20" in size.  So, this one has us wondering what is lurking in the pond!

Weather Clears,... Caught Two Catfish at Celebration Park!

Weather cleared up, made a break for Celebration Park. Tested out the homemade Method Feeder and a new Doughbait recipe. Caught two Catfish. One went 17" and the other went 19.5"! Fun stuff catching fish while tinkering with other fishing techniques. PS: Not only was the Method Feeder homemade, so was the Baiting Needle and the Strike Indicator.

Five Sunfish and a Catfish on Bread and a Hair Rig!

Been testing the Hair Rig out these past few weeks.  This round gave it a try at Celebration Park's North Pond.  Caught five Sunfish and a Catfish that went 16".  Posted the Catfish on the COAF Leader Board as it made the 15" minimum.  Really liking the Hair Rig; getting hookups that are on the lips and not in the throat!  Makes for a better catch and release!

Bullheads at Celebration Park.

Went back to Celebration Park to test out a homemade automatic hook setter.  Worked well but need to make a few more adjustments to the trigger.  Ended up catching several Bullheads.  None of which were hooked deep!

Two Bullheads On Bread This Round

Went back to Celebration this evening.  No Bruisers; just two Bullheads this round.  Caught on Bread and used the Hook Set Pro again.  Missed several other bites; still working out the kinks but feel the catch rate may increase once we figure it out!

Two Catfish at Celebration Park... Bread and Hook Set Pro!

Was out and about running errands. Somehow ended up at Cabelas (wink, wink, wink). While browsing the aisles, noticed a fishing tool called the Hook Set Pro by FishingScience.com; ended up buying it on a whim. Bought it in hopes of setting up a fishing rod to freeline bread for Catfish that lurk in the community lakes and ponds in the area.

With the cold temps, thoughts were to setup the rig, then sit back and watch things happen. Meaning keeping our hands warm in our coat pockets while the Hook Set Pro took care of setting the hook when the Catfish struck.

Ended up catching two - one Bruiser that went about 20" in length (posted it on the COAF Leader Board) and a little Bullhead! Fun stuff!

Cold Front Rolled In; One Bullhead on Bread!

Cold front rolled in today and dropped temps.  Add the wind and it gets chilly standing there watching your line in the water hoping for a bite.  Tried a quick trip to Celebration Park's East Pond at lunch today.  Had a couple of strikes and managed one Bullhead on bread for bait.  Action slowed down compared to yesterday but things should settle in a few days.  Have noticed that the Catfish and Bullheads will continue to bite even in freezing weather; more a matter of how much you are willing to wait it out.
