Tough Round at Frisco Saturday (Feb 15, 2015)

Late start Saturday for Nuclaroche and I. We planned to fish Frisco Commons for Rainbow Trout that morning but I was sidetracked by work and then some early "Spring" cleaning of the office. By the time all was done, it was late afternoon.

Around 4PM, we made it to Frisco and fished till after sunset. Nuclaroche hooked up with one Rainbow Trout using PowerBait. I stuck with different dry flies trying to hook the Trout that were rising on the surface, and then eventually switched to the Micro Fly Rod.

A quick check to match the hatch did not help either. I had caught one of the bugs flying around, and then tried several fishing flies that looked like it. No luck!

Still had fun catching little Bluegill on the Micro Fly Rod!

Two On a Fly, Then Three on PowerBait This Round... (Feb 8, 2015)

Fished Frisco Commons Pond today. Limited out but had a tough time catching them on fishing flies. Used the same rig as yesterday - Tandem Rig Near Deere and GRHEN.

Managed to catch two that went for the GRHEN. Had a few more missed strikes, else no luck getting another one with the Fly Rod. Switched to a Spinning Rod and PowerBait. Caught three Trout in short order.

Since the day was so nice and calm conditions, decided to try some Micro Fishing as well. Was hoping to catch a Trout using the Micro Fly Rod but the Trout were not going for fishing flies.

Luckily a couple of Bluegill and a little Bass were... will post a video of the Micro Fishing action at Frisco Commons and the Feeder Creek at Bethany in another Blog post.

Below is the video of the Trout action today.

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | Ultralight BFS Fishing for Trout with 1/16oz Roostertails

Rain delay has us sidetracked but was able to make it Saturday afternoon for a round of Texas Rainbow Trout fishing BFS Fishing style – Bait Finesse Systems fishing, at Frisco Commons Pond.

Went with ultralight gear that included the Kastking Zephyr BFS Reel, Berkley Lightning Rod, and 1/16oz Roostertails! Trout were active and did manage to catch three trout for dinner.

Reel is casting nicely plus keeping only 100 feet of line on the reel helps with clearing backlashes as yours truly re-educates his thumb to baitcasting again!

Fun stuff!

More Action at Frisco

Fished Frisco Commons this morning.  Hooked up using the Gold Super Duper, then switched to the fly rod and caught three more to make a limit using a new fishing fly.

No name for it yet; tied like the COAF Guadalupana but with White Marabou and a Gold Tinsel for the body. Needed something with Gold in it.

After limiting out, did some catch and release fishing.  Was able to hook up with a couple more Trout and a Bluegill!  Fun Stuff!

Today's Round at Frisco....

No action shots this round; had a low battery.  Forgot to charge the camera since the last outing.  No worries, able to get enough footage of the Trout (as well as several Bluegill) that were caught.

Started off with a COAF Guadalupana that the little Bluegill liked.  Then, switched to an Ultralight and caught three Rainbow Trout on a Gold Super Duper.  Went back to fly fishing and got them to take a Size 10 Gold Bead Head Wooley Bugger.

Key to hooking up was a slow retrieve when fishing the Super Duper and a long pulls and 6-8 count stop and go retrieve when fishing the Wooley Bugger.

Fun stuff... decided to cook them with Cajun Blackened Seasoning on a hot iron skillet!

Another Tough Round at Frisco Commons....

Made it back this afternoon to Frisco.  Trout still were lurking near the bank, and they were picky, picky, picky.

After changing fishing flies several times, finally hooked up with one using a variant of the COAF Guadalupana - tied using a Size 12 Caddis Hook, else it's the same pattern.

Also, noticed a steady retrieve as a school passed would usually attract the one hungry Trout to break from its buddies and strike.

Managed to limit out, even did some catch and release, as well as catch a little Bluegill.  No foul hooked fish; all struck the fishing fly and were hooked in the mouth.

Overcast and cold, but still has a good time once we figured the pattern!

Tough Go at Frisco Commons Today

Finally able to wet a line today.  Fished Frisco Commons this afternoon; the pond was stocked this morning and the City held its annual kid fishing derby.

Tough go today.  Fish seemed in shock, staying near the bank and were lock jawed at times.

After several looks at a Guadalupana, finally had one take the fishing fly.  Switch Rod worked out well; was able to make long switch cast (and roll cast) with ease.  Too bad distance did not matter today.

Then, switched to an Ultralight Rig and a Silver Kastmaster; had tried a Gold Super Duper, a Copper Super Duper, and a White Roostertail without a bite.  Looked like silver was the color of choice today.

Tried casting the spoon, used a steady retrieve, a stop and go retrieve, as well as a count down before reeling in.  No luck... what worked?  Jigging the lure up and down like when ice fishing. As a school would pass, one or two would show interest, the remainder would keep going by.

Later, jigging up and down, and then slowly moving the lure away would get one or two to break from where the school was "holed" up, and then a light strike and hook up would follow.

Fun stuff... was different seeing so many Trout so close to the bank; even got some underwater video of a school or two going by!

Frustrating Frisco Evening Bite!

Rained for a couple of days but today it let up.  Skies cleared up and temps rose; turned out to be a really nice day.  So, what better than to go for quick trip for more Rainbow Trout.

Fished the evening bite at Frisco Commons Pond.  Was a frustrating trip; had to keep changing fishing flies until we lucked into an Olive Dry Fly Midge in size 18.  Managed to catch one little Bluegill and one Rainbow Trout.  Then, missed several more.

Another fisherman caught a Rainbow Trout using a BH Nymph and then gave it to us to add to our creel... good thing, as more missed strikes after dark on the Dry Fly as well as a Copper John would have made for a one Trout dinner.

Two Trout on a Dry Fly this Round!

Another quick trip after work this evening.  Had less than 40" of light on arrival; luckily the Trout were actively feeding on something on the water's surface.  Had trouble yesterday getting them on a Dry Fly.  This time managed to catch two using a Griffith's Gnat and lost another two while bringing them in!  Fun stuff!
