Another Round at Texoma

Decided to give Lake Texoma another go this Saturday morning. Put in a Highport Marina, and then paddled out to one of the Lake's islands.  Set up with a tandem-rig with a Rat-L-Trap on bottom and a Tube Fly Jig above it.

Caught little Stripers, a Catfish, and Gaspergou. The Stripers were caught trolling, sight casting from the kayaks, as well as wade fishing from the shallows. At times, had schools of Stripers boiling around us while wading!

Lots of fun, and had a great workout too!

Bite Was Steady This Morning On Jug Lines at Ticky Creek

Fished Lake Lavon at Ticky Creek this morning. Bite was steady with 15 Keepers; largest went 19" in size. Most went for Shad that we caught by the boat ramp. Did catch a couple of Gaspergou; used one for cut bait. Ended catching several on cut bait also! Fun stuff with most caught in 11'-12' of water with hooks set 1' and 2' from the bottom.

Lavonia Park and Little Ridge Park This Round

Decided to fish the bank at Lake Lavon this round.  Went to Lavonia Park and setup our gear. Had several light nibbles using nightcrawlers but only managed one fish - a Gaspergou.  Too bad we did not have "boat" repellent; had two boats float over our fishing spot.  After a while without a bite, decided to head up the road to scout at Little Ridge Park.  Saw the Power Plant was generating; may need to bring the kayaks next round!

Underwater Video Test Run

Made an underwater camera housing for the video camera.  Decided to give it a try and capture trolling an umbrella rig.  Went to Clear Lake Park on Lake Lavon yesterday and gave it a test run.  Was windy and the water was murky; really tough to see anything.  Did capture some video; also, we did get a Gaspergou so we did not strike out completely.  Will give it another try later.

Windy Morning... Caught Two Gaspergou.

Windy morning; decided to try Ticky Creek.  Fished the leeward side and started working the area.  Slower action but did manage two Gaspergou using a Tandem Rig - White Roadrunner and Chartreuse Crappie Jig.  No video; just a picture.

Surfcasting without the Surf at Clear Lake Park

Decided to try fishing from the bank this round.  Having caught Gaspergou while drifting a kayak near shore, figured casting from the bank would produce a fish or two.  After over an hour without a strike, finally caught one - a Gaspergou.  Kept on fishing but only managed one more fish - an undersized White Bass.  Fun stuff!

Windy Day But Did Catch a Few!

Was busy doing some "honey do's " Saturday.  Did have an opportunity to fish later on.  Was debating about taking the kayak or using surfcasting gear to fish Clear Lake Park on Lake Lavon.

Wind was picking up so kayak fishing may have been tough.  In the end, went with the kayak... figured the "Island" would provide enough protection so we could fish.

It didn't.... regardless, launched the kayak and fished the area from boat ramp to boat ramp without a strike.  Then, decided on a workout and headed to the leeward side of the "Island". Still no bites but the anchored boats and music playing made for a party-like atmosphere.

On the way back to the boat ramp, slow-trolled the Crappie Jig we by letting the wind drift the kayak.  Wind was pushing in the right direction but did not get a strike.

Was getting ready to call it a trip when a fish struck the jig while we were pulling the kayak ashore.  The kayak was beached and the line was still trailing behind; waves and wind were causing it to bounce up and down.  Reeled the line in; it was a Gaspergou.

Could not leave the fishing while they were biting.  So, launched the kayak again and started working the bottom by paddling upwind to setup for a drift, then slowed the kayak where the jig would bounce along the bottom.

When setup correctly the rod tip would shake and bounce in unison with the jig bouncing along the bottom. Ended up catching three more Gaspergou.  Also, caught a White Bass while paddling upwind but had to release it as it was not a keeper.

Fun stuff... especially when you accidentally find a pattern that works!

White Bass and a Gaspergou This Round!

Brought Surfcasting Gear this evening (Thursday) and fished from the bank at Clear Lake Park on Lake Lavon.  Had noticed that the White Bass were in surfcasting distance while kayak fishing last weekend.  Started fishing a Weight and Jig Rig with Tandem Crappie Jigs.  No strikes for an hour, then switched to a Slab and Jig Rig.  Managed to catch four White Bass (undersized) and one Gaspergou!  Fun stuff!

Back to Denison Dam Tailrace, Again!

Fished Denison Dam today.  Brought some shade and started early.  Stayed till the power plant began generating, then headed home.  Other than a short rain shower, sun was out in force.  Shade made a difference in being able to fish longer.  Too bad we did not get any Bruisers but did have steady action on Stripers, even caught and released a Gaspergou, an undersized Flathead Catfish, and a little Bluecat.  Fun stuff!

Steady Action at Denison Dam

Been a while since we fished Denison.  Had the chance to go today, so we headed up the road. Fished around Noon to about 4PM.  Caught Gaspergou (Freshwater Drum), a Gar, and a few small Stripers. Caught them using frozen Shad.... Fun stuff!
