Clear Lake Park This Round

Fished Clear Lake Park on Lavon yesterday.  Brought the kayaks and trolled a White Roadrunner and a Red/White Crappie Jig.  Caught and released 30+ fish - all were undersized White Bass except for one Yellow Bass.  Been a while since we been to Clear Lake Park; will likely be back again!

Another Round at Ticky Creek!

Fished Ticky Creek for another round of kayak fishing for White Bass.  Worked the area off the beach this time; caught undersized White Bass and no Keepers this time.  Oh well, better luck next time!

Went with Ultralight Gear This Time... and a Roadrunner Jig Variant

Fished with the Ultralight this evening at Bethany.  Used a variation of the Roadrunner Jig and a Rapala Minnow.  Was a tough go with all the algae growing along the shallows but did manage to keep the lures clear enough to get a few strikes.Caught eight Bass with the Roadrunner and one Bass on the Rapala.

The Roadrunner Jig is a standard 1/8 oz Jig Head but we tie it using Purple Marabou, some Krystal Flash, and Red Dacron Thread.  Fun stuff!

Only Two Today....

Fished Ticky Creek again.  Put out jug lines and baited with Chicken Livers.  Seemed like a good idea but then we had to call it quits early when the wind picked up.  Did catch and release two fish - a White Bass and a Largemouth Bass.  Both were little... scrappy but little fighters!

Only One This Time

Went to Brockdale Park this evening.  Windy conditions made for some tough paddling.  Did manage to catch one White Bass.  Other than that, got a decent workout this round paddling the  kayak!

Only Two This Round....

Went back to the Point at Ticky Creek (Lake Lavon).  Windy conditions but still fun casting for distance.  Managed only two this round - undersized White Bass.  No Keepers today!  Continued to use the Sinker and Jig Rig and a Carp Rod.   Really liking the distance we get using this setup.

Ticky Creek Again!

Was able to fish the BFS Black Phantom Carp Rod we ordered from Big Carp Tackle this evening.  Used a Sinker and Jig Rig and a Roadrunner for the jig and was able to cast for distance!  Caught more than one this round compared to the other day.  No Keepers but still was fun.  Really liking the Carp Rod.... works like a champ when casting from the shore!

Another Go at Kayak Fishing Brockdale Park

Made a run to Brockdale Park to Kayak Fish for White Bass.  Met up with TFF's Mikes14 and worked the Point trolling Crappie Jigs and Roadrunners.  Lots of baitfish in the area, and a few fish lurking over the brushline, but overall the action was slow.  Regardless, had fun catching and releasing a few White Bass as well as putting a nice sized Crappie on the stringer!

More White Bass at Brockdale Park

Returned to Brockdale Park for more kayak fishing for White Bass.  Mostly undersized fish but did catch one Keeper.  Caught them on a White Marabou Roadrunner.  Slow but steady action with a lot of wind.  Did see a few boils of fish feeding on shad as it got later in the day.

Rigged a Fish Finder to the Kayak, Made a Difference!

Decided to rig a fish finder to the kayak.  After some tinkering, made a power source that uses eight AA Batteries for power.  Then, used some scrap PVC to make a transducer mount.  Went to the Brockdale Park this evening to try it out. Soon after launching was able to locate a few schools of fish and an underwater brush line that held fish!  Caught mainly undersized White Bass and a few Yellow Bass on a White Marabou Roadrunner.  Then, had a Bruiser take the Roadrunner but quickly snapped the line.  Switched to a White Crappie Jig and caught a White Bass before calling it quits.  Fun stuff, even better that the wind was negligible!

Windy Day at Ticky Creek

Fished Ticky Creek this morning.  Decided to use the Sit Inside Kayak this round; really like the Heritage Angler.  Just have not used it in awhile.  Windy day and only one undersized White Bass!  Better luck next time.  Made a short video clip and posted it on COAF Field Team's Facebook page.

Kayak Fishing Ticky Creek

Wind let up today.  Decided to fish Lake Lavon with the Kayak.  Put in at Ticky Creek Park and made for the point.  Then, found out that we left the rod and reel at home.  Made do with a handline and a Roadrunner Jig.  Good thing the tackle box stays with the kayak!  Caught several White Bass with one Keeper.  Remainder did not meet the legal length requirement so were let go.

Bethany Still Going Strong!

Fished Bethany again this evening. Had steady strikes on the Chartreuse Rooster Tail. Did catch one little Bass on the Curly Tail Roadrunner. Also, met a fellow Metal Detector Enthusiast and Fisherman, who was catching Bass on Jigs. Looks like Jigs continue to produce as well!

Bass in the first row, third from left was caught on a Curly Tail Roadrunner.  Bass in the second row, second from left was caught on a Jig by the Metal Detector Enthusiast/Fisherman

Could Not Stay Away From Fishing

Could not stay away from fishing; went back to Bethany Lakes this evening.  Good thing because the fish were cooperating.  Ultralight Gear and Jigs continued to work.  Even caught a little Crappie!

To the Village, then to Bethany Lakes.

Checked out the Catch and Release Pond by the Village (near In and Out Burger). Brought Ultralight Gear and the Tandem Rigged Jigs. Was a tough outing; windy conditions and murky water. Did manage to catch two little Bass.

Went on to Bethany Lakes and fished the Lower Pond, Main Pond, and Back Pond. Caught more Bass but ended up losing the Tandem Rigged Jigs to a "Tree Fish"!

One lesson learned though... really like the Stren Knot when setting up Tandem Rigged Jigs. Had several line breaks but none caused by the Stren Knot failing!

More Fun at Bethany Lakes with Jigs!

Went back to Bethany this evening for more fishing with Ultralight Gear and Jigs.  Had to restock Roadrunner Jigs and Tube Jigs after losing the last one in the tackle box this morning to a snag.  Good news,... tandem rigged Tube and Roadrunner Jigs continued to produce this evening with more Bass, Panfish and even another Catfish caught and released!

Morning Outing To Bethany Gets More Fish On Ultralight Gear and Jigs!

Fished Bethany Lakes this morning to kick off the Memorial Day Weekend!  Fish cooperated with Bass, Panfish, and a Catfish caught all on Jigs - Tube Jig, Curly Tail Roadrunner, or Marabou Roadrunner.  Had a nice fight with the Catfish hitting the Curly Tail Roadrunner.  Later, lost a Bruiser Bass on the Marabou Roadrunner; hooked him, fought him briefly, and then lost him when the hook came off.  Oh well, better luck next round!

Was a Bust at Brockdale but Bethany Made It Alright!

Took out the Surfcasting Gear and hit the Point at Brockdale Park (Lake Lavon).  Was a bust with no strikes on a Float and Jig Rig!  Changed gears and grabbed the Ultralight and tied on a Tandem Rig - Tube Jig and Roadrunner Jig.  Was able to hook into five Bass and one Catfish!

Ultralight Spinning Gear Continues To Work At Bethany!

Made it back to Bethany Lakes this evening.  Brought the Ultralight Gear and fished a Roadrunner Jig.  Caught Bass, a Bullhead, and a Panfish.  Then, lost the Roadrunner on a breakoff, can't push 4 lbs test too far.  Switched to a Tube Jig and caught a few more Bass!  Water level is up and the algae can be a little bothersome but it looks like the City treated the water as there is a blue tint now.  Fun stuff catching them on an Ultralight!
