Three Bass On a Quick Trip To Bethany This Round

Made it to Bethany this evening but was limited in time.  A quick trip this round; managed to catch three Bass on Senkos.  Fun time regardless of having to call the trip short!

Senkos Again at Bethany This Evening.

Had fun fishing Senkos at Bethany this evening.  Action was slower compared to yesterday.  Managed to catch two Sunfish and a little Bass near the Waterfall. Since there were only three fish caught today, decided to make a short slideshow of fish we caught beginning Saturday to Today.  Caught a fair amount of fish these last few days.... nothing record breaking but sure beats working!

Slow Action at the Village this AM

Was slow action this morning at the Village but did manage three Bass to take a Weightless Senko.  Noticed it was cooler than yesterday and with less wind.  Regardless, things should get warmer as the day progresses.

Two Bass This Round.

Caught two Bass this morning at Bethany.  Used a weightless Senko and cast further from the bank than normal.  Saw a few Bass in the shallows but did get them to bite.  Did see the flyfishing class again, too.  Good to see others taking up fishing on the fly!

Another Go at Auburn Springs

Decided to take the Bait Casting Rod for another go at Auburn Springs.  Was hoping for a repeat of the Bruisers caught yesterday.  Unfortunately, it was not so.  Fished weightless Senko Worms and had one Bass take but lost it soon after striking.  Then, went an hour without a hit.  Finally, managed a nice size Sunfish by slowly dragging the Senko on the bottom.  Glad to have not struck out this round!

Gotta Love Those Senkos!

Made it to Auburn Springs to "field test" a Wooley Spinner.  Caught one little Bass on the inline spinner, then lost the inline spinner to a Bruiser that broke the line.

Ultralight Spinning Gear and 4-lbs test don't mix when a Bruiser takes a lure deep and chafes the line! Luckily, had the emergency pack of Gary Yamamoto Senko Worms.

So, tied on a worm hook, baited it with a Senko, and then started working the banks.  Soon after, hooked a 17" Bruiser Bass!  Moved to an open area and caught a scrappy little Bass, then went back to working the banks and managed to a hook and land a 20" Bruiser Bass  (the angle of the photo makes it look shorter but we checked it several times; it went 20").

Gotta love those Senkos,... Thank you Gary Yamamoto,... your the best!

One on a Senko, then Several on a Crappie Jig Variant, and then more with a Tenkara Rod!

Fished Bethany this morning to take advantage of the recent rainstorm and higher water levels.

Caught one Bass on a Senko using a steady retrieve. Then, lost the Senko to a snag. Noticed really good water flow at the waterfall and a lot of fish activity.

Did not bring flyfishing gear but did have some fishing flies in the tackle box. So, rigged up a Hula Popper and tied on a Crappie Jig Variant as a dropper.

Immediately started getting bites on the Crappie Jig Variant; even caught a few Crappie!

Took a break and switched out poles. Grabbed the Tenkara Rod as it works well when fishing the Waterfall.  Caught Crappie, Bass, Panfish, and a little Catfish!

Good Stuff!!!

One on a Senko; three on a Hula Popper and a Dropper!

Three Bass for a Nooner at Bethany... On Senkos!

Went for a "Nooner" at Bethany today... meaning we started fishing at 12PM!  Fished with a weightless Senko and caught three Bass.  Slow retrieve and light strikes were the key take aways today.  Had several more strikes but missed hooksets; the suttle bites were enough to delay setting the hook.  Gotta work on this next round,... feel a tap, pull back and set, else miss the fish!

Been tough being able to fish lately but did manage to wet a line this evening.  Only one Bass caught on a weightless Senko.  Fun stuff...!

Hand Poured Half-Quatros

With a break in work, decided to restock the tackle box with more plastic worms.  Since we prefer to make our own rather than buy them at a premium, gathered up the "leftover" plastic baits that we have been saving for another day and melted them to re-use as hand poured plastic worms that we call "Half-Quatros"!

Basically, they are 4" Senko Worms except they are poured into a mold that only uses half the Senko Worm.  Works just like the Senko, just cheaper and are fun to fish knowing you poured them yourself!

... plus since we are recycling, you could call us "green" and Earth friendly(?).

Waterlogged Baitcasting Rod/Reel Combo Comes Through at Kroger.

Recovered a waterlogged baitcasting rod/reel combo while fishing the other day.  After a little elbow grease and "reverse engineering" was able to get the reel back to working condition!  Took it out to Kroger Park this evening and fished a Carolina-Rigged Half-Quatro (hand poured Senko Worm variant).  Caught a Bass and had several other light strikes... not bad given the spool was frozen solid when we found it.

Senko Worked at the Village Again.

Fished the Village with Senko Worms this morning.  Caught three Bass and lost one.  Action was slow, then got slower as the sun came up.  Bass were tending deeper and away from the shoreline.  Slow but still a fun trip!

Tenkara and Senko Worms - Tenko Fishing Anyone?

Been itching too flex the Tenkara Rod but have been side-tracked by Bass and hand pouring  our version of a Senko Worm - the "Half-Quatro".  So, to enjoy the two, why not combine them and call it Tenko Fishing - small plastic worms fished on a Tenkara Rod!

Since Tenkara Fishing uses small fishing flies, opted to  modify the "Half-Quatro" to a smaller version.  Made two variants of the "Half-Quatro".  Going to call them the "Mini-Mum1" and "Mini-Mum2" for ease of reference.

Tested them out this morning at Bethany Lakes.... water levels are low but the fish remain near the banks and well within casting range of the Tenkara Rod (at least in the morning).  Had several Bass strike the Worms but lost them while bringing them in.  Used small Jig Hooks in lieu of a Bass Worm Hook; will need to come up with a better hook to use else risk more lost Bass.

Made a change after a break off of a decent Bass.... Go figure, only poured two Worms, so was down to one Worm.  Opted to fish the remaining Worm wacky rigged; had more strikes and misses.  This kept up until the Worm split in two.

Not to be left without a lure in the Field, made do and tied on a smaller jig hook and fished using halves!  Good thing.... Bluegill, Sunfish really liked it!

Had a fun time Tenko Fishing this morning.  Will need to come up with a better hook to use, else am happy with the Worms - "Mini-Mum1" and "Mini-Mum2"!  Will need to pour more for the next round.

Other Commitments, but...!

Have other commitments that are keeping us from fishing but it still does not keep us away from the fishing mindset.  Was out and about down South, stopped by an antique store in Gruene and picked up a couple of lures - a Hollow-Frog and a Tiny Torpedo!

Then, decided to pour a prototype plastic "Senko" worm.  Calling it the "Half-Quatro" because it is a hand poured worm based on the 4" Senko.  The difference is it floats and the bottom is flat - almost like the 4" Senko was cut in half!

Going to play around with this one a little, maybe make another version of it.  That is, if we can keep from burning the plastisol!

Slow Night... Caught a Sunfish on a Senko?

Was a slow night at Bethany Lakes.  Caught only one fish... a Sunfish on a Senko Worm.  Was surprised given the 3/0 Worm Hook.  Really wanting some rain to get the water levels up.

The Village Produces This Evening....

Went back to the Village to fish the unweighted Senko.  Worked out well with several Bass caught.  Largest went 15" in size.  Fun stuff!

Unweighted Senko Gets Two Bass at Bethany.

Been wanting to fish the Senko without a weight but have been wary of backlashes using baitcasting gear.  Decided to try it out tonight using the baitcasting combo from Cabelas - Shakespeare Agility Reel and Cabelas IM6 Rod.

Worked out well without a single backlash.  Had no problem casting the 4" Senko we have been using.  Only caught two Bass but it was a definite improvement compared to a weighted rig!  Going to have to try it out again soon hopefully.

Caught Four Bass At The Village This AM... One Went 16.5" in Size!

Fished the Village this morning using Carolina-Rigged Senko Worms and the Cabelas Baitcasting Combo we picked up last week.  Enjoying catching them on plastics... but the bite seemed to have slowed.  The heat, lower water levels, and other things may be impacting fish activity.  Caught three little Bass working the shoreline, then caught a decent Bass that went about 16.5" in size by working a deep pocket with a slowwwww retrieve.

Struck Out the Last Two Nights, Was Able to Catch Two Tonight....

Struck out the last two nights at Bethany and Kroger.  Was able to catch two tonight at the Village.  Used Senko Worms and worked the pond without a strike for the first hour, but then the bite was on shortly before sunset.  Lost three Bass before finally hooking one.  Caught another Bass, and then lost one more before heading home.  Good stuff regardless of the 103 degree temps!

Quick Trip to the Village... Morning Was Slow.

Fished the Village Pond this morning.  Slow action with two Bass caught on a Senko Worm and one Bass on a Fluke.  Both were fished on a Carolina-Rig.
