More Fun Fishing Before the Front Arrived

Headed to Bethany with the Four Weight Fly Rod to fish a round before the cold front arrived.  Caught seven Bass and one Sunfish on fishing flies.  One Bass and the Sunfish went for the Guadalupana.  The other Bass went for a White BH Wooley Bugger, White Wooley Bugger, or a White Damsel Fly.  Fun stuff!

Back To The Blue!

Made a day trip to the Blue River yesterday (11/29).  Caught two on a Wooley Bugger in the morning, then one on a Powerbait later in the day.  Slow day with lots of fish "eyeing" our fishing flies.  Managed to limit out the last 30" of the trip using Powerbait.

Back To The Blue River

Went back to the Blue River Friday, 16 November for another go at the Rainbow Trout.  Temps were hovering around freezing in the morning.  Managed to catch four Trout!  First two went for an Olive Wooley Bugger Variant.  Third one went for a Olive/Black Wooley Bugger.  Last one went for a White Damsel Fly!  Did lose two others and spent a lot of time sight casting to Trout and Bass.  Had a number of them turn away at the last minute from the fishing fly.  Also, did get a couple of strikes on a Copper John; hooked but came off soon after.  Did not limit out but was a good day to be out there!

Limited Out at the Blue Today

Made it to the Blue River today.  Had a great time - caught a limit of Trout, released that many as well, and lost (accidental catch and release) a lot more.  Will post a video clip on our YouTube Channel... for now here is a picture of today's catch.  The colors are washed out as the Trout have been in a creel; largest one went about 15" in size!

Bluegill at Lunch!

Took a break at Lunch today and fished the feeder creek at Bethany. Caught a couple of Bluegill.  One really small one and one that went about 6" in size!  Both struck an Olive Wooley Bugger.

PS:  Went back to Bethany in the early evening.  Caught several small Bluegill in the Canal.  Used the Tenkara Rod and an Antron Nymph.  No Bruisers; still had fun catching them.  Was planning to make a short video clip to post but mistakenly deleted the video while transferring to the laptop.

Wooley Bugger Gets Four Trout at the Blue River.

Fished the Blue River today. Caught four Trout.  Lost several more including a Bruiser.  All went for an Olive Wooley Bugger.  Fairly clear water and lots of action. Had to call the trip short else would have likely limited out!  Picture below shows three Trout; there is one more hidden by the others on the bottom of the creel.

Wooley Bugger Keeps Working At Bethany Lakes

Fished the Bead Head Wooley Bugger under a strike indicator at Bethany this evening, again.  Caught a few Bass and a Sunfish.  Also, missed a lot of hooksets.  Fished till a snag resulted in losing the Wooley Bugger.  Did see others catching Bass, including one hookup that looked like a Bruiser except it was lost while landing it.

One Sunfish This Round.

Fished Bethany Lakes this evening.  Late start,... had little less than 45" before it got dark.  Tied more Bead Head Olive Wooley Buggers and used one to catch a Sunfish and lose three little Bass.

One More Try At Bethany Before it Rained?

Made it back to Bethany Lakes to work a Bead Head Olive Wooley Bugger under a strike indicator.  Had fun catching a few fish before it started to rain!  Caught three Sunfish and six Bass.  Even lost a Bruiser that broke off the Wooley Bugger... going to tie more as it was the last one in the flybox.

10 Bass This AM at Bethany.

Water levels are up in the Main and Back Ponds at Bethany.  Gave it a go this morning fishing with Flyfishing Gear.  Caught two Bass on a White Foam Rubber Spider Variant, and then eight more on an unweighted Olive Wooley Bugger under a strike indicator.  Bass were small with the largest going about 13" and all were caught less than ten feet from the bank.

"River Why" Tip Comes Through!

Went back to Kroger Park this afternoon for a go at the Catfish.  Brought Ultralight Gear and Bread for bait.  Unfortunately, struck out miserably.  Not a bite at all.

Did see Bluegill and Bass working the shallows. A quick check of the gear on hand... an Ultralight Spinning Rod/Reel, Bread, Hooks, and an Olive Wooley Bugger found on the floorboard of the truck.

Taking a tip from the movie "River Why", wrapped the Olive Wooley Bugger with Bread (mud was used in the movie) and casted the fly using the Ultralight Gear.  Shortly after casting the Wooley Bugger, the Bread broke apart and was able to fish the fly!

Caught one Bass and a Bluegill, hooked but lost two other Bass.  Not a bad outing saved by a piece of Bread!

Flyfishing at the Village Producing Bass

Fished the Village this morning with Flyfishing Gear.  Tied on an Olive Crawdad Fly and caught a Bass on the first cast, then lost the Fly to a breakoff on another Bass.  Murphy's Law came in to play as the only Crawdad Fly we had was the one lost to the breakoff.  Tied on a Bead Head Olive Wooley Bugger and caught two Bass of which one was actively chasing baitfish in the shallows.  Fun stuff... especially with the cooler temps!

Flies Did Well At the Village This Morning....

Fished the Village in Allen this morning; went with the flyrod and fishing flies.  Tough go again with the wind but managed to get a few casts in.  Caught seven Bass and one Bluegill.  Lost a Bruiser Bass though; fought it for about a minute before it shook the fly off!  Oh well, better luck next time.

PS:  Used a BH Olive Wooley Bugger, a Deer Hair Bug, and a Damsel Fly.  Deer Hair Bug seemed to be the fly of choice this round.

Morning Outing Was Tough With Windy Conditions...

Wind made it rough to fish Bethany this morning.  Did catch a little Bluegill on a Wooley Bugger using the Tenkara Rod.  Switched to Ultralight Gear and Rooster Tails.  Caught three little Bass and lost two others while reeling them in.  No plans to fish this evening though... headed to Celebration Park to watch the Fireworks!

Kroger Park Outing Gets More Bluegill and a Bruiser That Broke Off

Went back to Kroger Park.  This round brought Fly Fishing Gear instead of the Tenkara Rod.  Caught a Bluegill on the Olive Damsel Fly, then lost the fly to a Bruiser Bass.

Switched to an Oliver Wooley Bugger and caught more Bluegill.  Hated losing the Bass, easily would have took the lead in the One Fishing Fly Challenge!  Oh well, next time!

Back to Bethany with the Tenkara Rod.

Windy day made it tough, also short on time,... so went with the minimalist approach and brought the Tenkara Rod and Deer Hair Bug to try for the Bass.  But, lost it soon after fishing to a snag.  Switched to an Olive Wooley Bugger and hooked and lost a decent Bass.  Went to the Waterfall and finished out the trip catching a fingerling Bass and little Sunfish.  Fun stuff... small fish on light tackle make for a "big fight"!

Night Time Outing To Bethany Lands One Bass....

Late start and limited time this evening to fish.  Did make it to Bethany Lakes but well after sunset.  Worked the bank around the Main Pond with a Surface Popper with no luck; switched to an Olive Wooley Bugger and hooked a little Bass.  Only one but was still good practice flycasting in the dark!
