Lake Lavon Fishing | Slabs, Shad, and the Lazy Man Fishing Method!

Fished Lake Lavon this past weekend. Saturday at Brockdale; Sunday at Highland. This is the follow-up video showing the action Sunday.

Windy and lots of waves to deal with, luckily the twelve foot jon boat and 2.5 Suzuki Outboard made for an easy run to the Water Treatment Plant for some fun with White Bass.

Later, made it back to the Point, found some Shad in the brushy areas with the cast net, and then fished a modified Sabiki Rig… replace the Slab with a weight and the Crappie Jigs with hooks.

Caught several keeper size Catfish – largest went 19 inches, and White Bass as well. Also, released several undersized Catfish and White Bass as well as Yellow Bass.

Overall, it was a fun trip. Did see the drainage area is flooded by the Water Treatment Plant… but most important learned the Lazy Man Fishing Method!

PS: The 2.5 Suzuki Outboard works well as a pillow!

Windy and Waves This Round

Headed to Ticky Creek Park for more kayak fishing. Boat ramp was closed but not an issue with the kayak. Launched from the beach without an issue. Windy though and water was rough. Had a tough time hooking up. Did get a Yellow Bass and a White Bass after getting a good workout in! Both went for Crappie Jigs.

Kayak Trolling This Morning!

Went kayak fishing this morning.  Was planning to launch from the free boat ramp nearest the dam.  Road was closed. Luckily, had the COE Annual Pass, so went to Lavonia Park and put in from the Day Use Area.

Paddled out to the Point we like to fish and began working the area... trolling a Slab and Crappie Jig Rig as well as casting to boils!

Caught two Yellow Bass and a number of White Bass with three Keepers.  Fish for Dinner tonight!

Clear Lake Park This Round

Fished Clear Lake Park on Lavon yesterday.  Brought the kayaks and trolled a White Roadrunner and a Red/White Crappie Jig.  Caught and released 30+ fish - all were undersized White Bass except for one Yellow Bass.  Been a while since we been to Clear Lake Park; will likely be back again!

Fished a Different Point This Round....

Fished the area south of Lavonia Park to try for White Bass.  Very promising area per reports from TFF's TarponFly.  Brought the Carp Rod that we like to use for long distance surfcasting.  Also, brought Slabs and Crappie Jigs as suggested.

After walking from the parking area to the point near the Dam, noticed a lot of fish activity on the surface (note: the walk was muddy from yesterday's rain; we found it easier to wade the shoreline at times).

Casted for distance and had a few short strikes before finally hooking into one... a Largemouth Bass.  Kept at it some more and hooked a Yellow Bass. Then, a few boats passed through the area, so the bite was off for a few.  Then, started getting strikes again after things settled down.

More missed strikes but did get a Keeper White Bass that struck the Slab! Fun stuff... will need to come back and bring the Kayak next round.  Perfect area for some trolling!

Rigged a Fish Finder to the Kayak, Made a Difference!

Decided to rig a fish finder to the kayak.  After some tinkering, made a power source that uses eight AA Batteries for power.  Then, used some scrap PVC to make a transducer mount.  Went to the Brockdale Park this evening to try it out. Soon after launching was able to locate a few schools of fish and an underwater brush line that held fish!  Caught mainly undersized White Bass and a few Yellow Bass on a White Marabou Roadrunner.  Then, had a Bruiser take the Roadrunner but quickly snapped the line.  Switched to a White Crappie Jig and caught a White Bass before calling it quits.  Fun stuff, even better that the wind was negligible!
