Auburn Springs This Time

Tied a variant of the Griffith's Gnat and fished Auburn Springs this time.  Had a few strikes and misses, and then started to connect.  Little Bluegill but still fun catching on a Dry Fly!

Only One This Round

Checked out the pond behind In-N-Out Burger.  Slow action with only one Bass caught this round.  Caught it with a Senko.  On the way home, stopped by Auburn Springs' North Pond.  No strikes but did see some surface activity.

One Bass and then Missed Strikes

Fished the pond behind In-N-Out Burger and caught one Bass using Senkos.  Then, fished Auburn Springs and missed strikes.  Was a tough go this round.  Still fun despite losing a nice Bass. Video clip shows the one Bass being caught and released; went about 13.5" in length, and then it shows a Bass coming off the hook while trying to land it.

Its size is deceiving because of the fish eye camera lens makes it look smaller.  And, we were standing at the top of the embankment which is about 20 feet from the water's edge.  Would have been the biggest we caught this year.  Oh well, better luck next time.

One Bluegill and Two Bass This Round

Fished Auburn Springs this evening.  Cold front rolled in the other day and dropped temps.  Was having fun catching Bass on Senkos.  Decided to try an inline spinner this time.  Managed to catch a Bluegill and two Bass fishing a Rooster Tail.  Largest fish was a Bass that went almost 14" in size.  Fun stuff!

More Fun at Auburn Springs

Had more fun at Auburn Springs this evening.  Brought the Tenkara Rod this round and fished a Guadalupana.  Caught five fish with just a "stick, line, and fishing fly"!  No Bruisers but still had a lot of fun.

Two Bass at Bethany; Missed Strikes at Auburn Springs

Fished Bethany this afternoon and caught two Bass using Senkos.  Then, rode a bike to Auburn Springs to fish the evening bite.  Had several missed strikes and no hook ups.  Need to try again in the near future. At least got some exercise in riding a bike to the pond!

Another Go at Auburn Springs

Decided to take the Bait Casting Rod for another go at Auburn Springs.  Was hoping for a repeat of the Bruisers caught yesterday.  Unfortunately, it was not so.  Fished weightless Senko Worms and had one Bass take but lost it soon after striking.  Then, went an hour without a hit.  Finally, managed a nice size Sunfish by slowly dragging the Senko on the bottom.  Glad to have not struck out this round!

Gotta Love Those Senkos!

Made it to Auburn Springs to "field test" a Wooley Spinner.  Caught one little Bass on the inline spinner, then lost the inline spinner to a Bruiser that broke the line.

Ultralight Spinning Gear and 4-lbs test don't mix when a Bruiser takes a lure deep and chafes the line! Luckily, had the emergency pack of Gary Yamamoto Senko Worms.

So, tied on a worm hook, baited it with a Senko, and then started working the banks.  Soon after, hooked a 17" Bruiser Bass!  Moved to an open area and caught a scrappy little Bass, then went back to working the banks and managed to a hook and land a 20" Bruiser Bass  (the angle of the photo makes it look shorter but we checked it several times; it went 20").

Gotta love those Senkos,... Thank you Gary Yamamoto,... your the best!

Another Inline Spinner Field Test - HL Spinner

Still having fun with inline spinners.  This time made one using parts from Hobby Lobby.  Calling this one the HL Spinner (HL for Hobby Lobby).

Field tested the HL Spinner with a go at Auburn Springs' North Pond.  Did not get a single strike!  Then, went to the South Pond and luckily started hooking up with Panfish.  Lotta fun catching them on your own lures.  Even had a few Bruiser Bass chase the spinner; just missed the hookset!

Goldfishing Anyone? ... Bread and a Homemade Automatic Hooksetter!

Went "Goldfishing" this evening.  Managed to catch and release four of them.  Used Bread for bait.  Two were caught freelining the Bread.  And, two were caught using the homemade automatic hooksetter. Great fighters... especially on ultralight gear!

Struck Out Last Night...!

Struck out last night at Auburn Springs and Kroger Park. Hope to turn this trend around over the 3-Day Weekend... hopefully! Tied a Deer Hair Bug to replace the Red and White Surface Popper lost while fishing Stoney Hollow the other day. Tied using a similar sized hook as the Red and White Surface Popper. Should be able to handle a Bruiser or two!

Update:  Fished Stoney Hollow Park and caught two Bass on the Surface Popper.  Had a number of missed strikes.  And, had a water snake check out one of the Bass.  Had pictures of the Bass and the water snake... but erased them by accident.

4 Bass and 5 Sunfish On The Purple Damsel Fly!

Stopped by Auburn Springs (South) to test the waters using the Tenkara Rod.  Worked the bank and the feeder creek; caught and released 4 Bass and 5 Sunfish.  Largest Bass went 16" in size!  Fun stuff, even after losing a larger Bass than the 16 incher!  Still liking the Tenkara Rod and the ability to work the pond banks and small feeder creeks.

Two Bass On A Purple-Chenille Wooley Bugger At Auburn Springs

Fished the South Pond at Auburn Springs using the Purple-Chenille Wooley Burger.  Caught two Bass.  No Bruisers with larger of the two going 11" in size.  Tough fishing when the wind kicked up.  Regardless, had fun catching them.

One Bass and 30 Bluegill/Sunfish at Auburn Springs on a Yellow Grasshopper!

Fished Auburn Springs this evening.  Fished the Yellow Grasshopper - same pattern as earlier today except with White Legs. Lost the Grasshopper with the Centipede Legs to a snag.

No worries -  Yellow Grasshopper with White Legs did well! Caught one Bass and 30 Bluegill/Sunfish! Bass went just over 12" in size and one Sunfish did go over 8". Posted the Sunfish on the COAF Leader Board. A lotta fun catching them on the fly today!

FYI: "Community Lakes Route"

Received a series of pictures from one Field Team Member that shows ponds that he passed while on his running route this morning.  He calls it the Community Lakes Route.  Of interest are the number of ponds along the route. Counted at least 12 ponds, some are sub-division ponds that limit access, others are familiar ponds like Bethany Lakes, and a few are not as well known like Shadow Lakes and several "no name" ponds.

Was wondering why Celebration Park or Auburn Springs were not shown.  He mentioned that the route did not take him there, and it would have made his 8 mile run a 10 or 12 mile run. Don't believe he was ready to go that distance for a few more pictures.

Anyhow, the pictures were sent via email to our partner Facebook Page - "COAF Field Team's" Fishing Log.  Should be posted on the site by now; check it out when you get a chance!

Good luck and good fishing!

Auburn Springs Pond - March 17, 2008

Fished Auburn Springs Pond this afternoon. Pond is actually two ponds and a feeder creek that runs between the two ponds. For clarification, named the ponds - North Pond and South Pond.

Ponds are located east of Celebration Park and just off Angel Parkway and Auburn Springs Road.

Promising location with reports of Bass, Bluegill/Sunfish, and Catfish. Did not catch anything in the North or South Ponds but hook a couple of small Sunfish in the feeder creek using a Yellow Chennille Caddis Fly.
