After fishing the mid-morning at Bethany Lakes, decided to go back in the afternoon with fly fishing gear. Caught Sunfish using the COAF Guadalupana, then a Bass on a COAF Damsel Fly, and then another Bass on a Near Deere. Followed by a couple of Bluegill and a Fingerling Bass on the Near Deere. Great time fishing the local lake. Sure beats work!

Fished Bethany this evening; went with a Three Weight Rod and the COAF Guadalupana. Slower bite but managed three Bass and a little Bluegill. Still a good time; still beats work!
Too nice a day to spend indoors; went back out in the afternoon for some catch and release fishing! This time in Murphy. Had a tough time but did manage to hook four Trout! Also, noticed chumming with bread made a difference in getting the Trout and Bluegill to feed on the surface. Was able to take advantage of this by casting the COAF Guadalupana near the drifting pieces of bread that were being blown across the pond! Fun stuff... Will play tomorrow by ear as the weather is not looking good.
Bite was good at Towne Lake this morning! Brought the Switch Rod and was able to make long cast to the middle of the pond and get a Trout or two or three. Fast retrieve was the key at first. Then, a slower (drifting) retrieve worked. Did see others doing well on small Nymphs, Wooley Buggers, and Midges as well as Silver Super Dupers. Ended the morning with a limit of Trout!
Finished work on a TGIF with enough daylight for another go at Murphy City Hall Pond! Caught four Rainbow Trout on a COAF Guadalupana and several Bluegill! Fun stuff!
Collin County Trout Stockings this past weekend in McKinney, Prosper, and a new one for this year - Murphy! Missed the action this weekend but was able to make it to Murphy this evening. Caught four Rainbow Trout on a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly. Would have limited out but missed the hook set on three others. Oh well... lotta fun! No action shots, just some quick action to get a few fish for dinner!
Made it back this afternoon to Frisco. Trout still were lurking near the bank, and they were picky, picky, picky. After changing fishing flies several times, finally hooked up with one using a variant of the COAF Guadalupana - tied using a Size 12 Caddis Hook, else it's the same pattern. Also, noticed a steady retrieve as a school passed would usually attract the one hungry Trout to break from its buddies and strike. Managed to limit out, even did some catch and release, as well as catch a little Bluegill. No foul hooked fish; all struck the fishing fly and were hooked in the mouth. Overcast and cold, but still has a good time once we figured the pattern!
Back for one more go at Waterloo. Brought a Buddy along and fished with COAF Guadalupanas. Both of us limited out with a lot more missed strikes than hook sets! Fun stuff on a warm January day!
Short on time and itching to wet a line; headed back to Waterloo in Denison for a limit of Trout. Lucked out and managed to get a limit using a COAF Guadalupana! Pattern was different; had to change the retrieve several times. There was not clear pattern that worked... fast, slow, wait so many counts. Still had a great time!
More fun at Waterloo in Denison. Missed the Youth Trout Derby but did not miss out on the stocked Trout! Windy day but the Four Weight Rod did its job; limited out using size 14 COAF Guadalupana! Fun stuff!
Gotta keep our day jobs, so lately it's been tough getting out to go fishing. No worries; there is always something to do related to fishing. This time, why not make a few fishing flies! Here is one COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly tied tonight. Hope to use it again some time in the near future... possibly this weekend!
Went to Waterloo Saturday afternoon. Fished the four weight fly rod and a COAF Guadalupana in a Size 12. Caught and released a number of Rainbow Trout. Kept five to make a limit. Did see others hooking up on Silver Super Dupers. Nice day to go fishing!
Finally bought a Peak Rotary Vise. Saw one several years ago at Bass Pro Shops in Garland; liked it but opted not to buy one. Been holding off on buying one since then. Had a deal online that I could not pass up (also had gift cards and rewards points that knocked the price down to under $100). Came in the mail yesterday; tied a fly today... really like it!
Headed to Denison Saturday afternoon and fished Waterloo. Recently stocked in preparation for the Trout Derby held that morning; the bite was steady. Three of us fished and managed to take three limits. NucLaroche and T-Bone caught them on PowerBait and Ultralight Gear. Fshng84 fished a COAF Guadalupana and a Four Weight Fly Rod. The strikes were light but the Team did manage to take five each! Even caught one of the tagged Trout from the Derby! Fun stuff!
A Reader sent an email asking about purchasing a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly. We pointed him to the COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly article that describes how to make one. However, the Reader was adamant about purchasing one rather than making one. So, we offered a sample fishing fly for his use... looks like others have asked as well. To make things easier (since we prefer to fish rather than make fishing flies), we created a "Buy Now" PayPal button for anyone who would like a sample fishing fly. Only made a few fishing flies but can make more (time permitting) on a periodic basis. If the PayPal button does not work or if we are sold out of samples, email us at coaf.weblog@live.com to let us know there is an issue. Thanks, COAF Field Team
Decided to head to Denison this afternoon to fish Waterloo Park Pond for one more shot at Rainbow Trout in 2013. Caught a limit - one on a GRHEN and four on a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly. Light strikes, had to pay close attention to the line and feel of the strike. Missed several strikes, but was able to hook a few! Fun stuff... especially after two weeks since the pond was stocked. No worries though; the next stocking is this weekend!
Round three at Huaco Springs started early this morning. Fished a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly on the Four Weight Fly Rod and caught a limit of Trout! Strikes were light compared to yesterday and fish were really "picky" about the size of the fishing fly. No takers on a Size 14 but lots of action on the Size 12. Fishing buddy also limited out using an Ultralight Rod and a Bubble Fly Rig. Had four Trout go for the COAF Guadalupana, and one Trout take a BH GRHEN! Fun stuff... did see others taking them on Silver Super Dupers, Orange Power Bait, and Marshmallows. Also, when we first arrived, saw one nice sized Trout caught by one fisherman! Nice to know there are some Bruisers lurking in the area!
Another go at Huaco Springs gets more Rainbow Trout! Fshng84 gets five using a Four Weight Fly Rod and a COAF Guadalupana; NucLaroche gets five, too - two on a Silver Duper and three on a Bubble Fly Rig and a COAF Guadalupana! Also, one guest fisherman with the Team gets a Rainbow Trout using a Silver Duper! Fun day on the Guadalupe; even better that they stocked the River around 11AM, too! Action was steady with some hot moments when the Trout were feeding on the surface!
Decided to give the Guadalupe River a try this morning. Opted for Camp Huaco Springs as it was recently stocked last Friday. When we arrived, could see the Rainbow Trout swimming about. NucLaroche worked one side of the river with an Ultralight Spinning Rig and caught two with PowerBait and three on a homemade Super Duper. Fshng84 worked the other side using Fly Fishing Gear and caught four on a Prince Nymph and one on a COAF Guadalupana! Fun stuff... with two limits taken on a chilly but sunny day!
Stopped at Cabelas earlier this evening, and picked up some Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymphs and Prince Nymphs. Then, decided to make a few COAF Guadalpana Fishing Flies in hopes of using them this weekend! Hatch is on....
