The one-lure challenge is still going strong.

I’m limiting myself to just one lure while fishing the pond, and the viral sea urchin lure just produced bass number 7. Same bait, same approach, and another solid fish that decided to eat.

There’s something really enjoyable about committing to a single lure for an extended period. You stop wondering what else you “should” be throwing and start focusing on making that one presentation work. Every cast becomes more intentional, and every bite feels a little more rewarding.

Bass number 7 is another nice milestone in the ongoing experiment. The sea urchin lure continues to get attention from the fish, and I’m having a blast sticking with it.

Sometimes the best days on the water happen when you keep things simple.

This time I ran a one-lure challenge with a Northland jig on the ultralight baitcasting setup. One bait, light gear, and the goal of just connecting with a fish.

It didn’t take long before a bass decided the jig looked good enough to eat. Light tackle made the fight fun and the whole session felt relaxed and focused. No lure changes, no overthinking — just casting, working the jig, and enjoying the moment when the rod loaded up.

These one-lure days are a great way to build confidence in a single presentation and really learn what it can do. Plus there’s something satisfying about sticking with one option and still getting the job done.

Loch Haven Inline Spinner at a Local Pond 🎣 | Average Angler Life

Fish number 3 is in the books for the one-lure challenge. I’m still fishing the same Loch Haven inline spinner and working a local pond for bass.

No switching. No backup baits. Just putting in the time with one lure and paying attention to what works. The steady retrieve continues to produce, and each fish teaches me a little more about how this spinner wants to be fished.

One lure. Fish #3. Still learning with every cast.

These limited-lure sessions strip away the extra choices and force better focus. It’s been a good reminder that you don’t always need a full tackle box to have a solid day on the water.

On to the next cast — and hopefully fish number 4.

Pond Fishing Quick Trip aka Grocery Shopping?

Running errands to the local grocery store that happens to have a small pond. As luck would have it, had the 5wt Redington Classic Trout rod, Echo Ion reel, and OPST Commando Head in the pickup… wonder who put it there? LOL! Foam Grasshopper did well again with a several Bluegill and a Bass caught and released before I went to the grocery store.
