I stepped forward to pick it up and immediately went mud up to my knees. Almost got stuck. The fish slipped away in the process, and for a second I thought I might be next.
That’s fishing. You can do everything right on the cast and the fight, then the bank decides to add its own challenge. Soft mud, slippery footing, and the simple act of reaching for the fish turns into a mini adventure.
I got out of it, but the fish didn’t. Still counts as a story.
