Only One Inline Spinner To Choose? Try This One!

Choose This Lure...!

Given only one inline spinner to choose from, I would go with the Rooster Tail in the Fire Tiger variant. This seems to be a consistent fish producer over the years!

This $2 Lure Works, and an Inline Spinner | Plus Cool Video of a Bass Chasing a Bluegill!

Here is the second in the $2 BFS Lure Series where I fish discount lures using ultralight baitcasting gear.

First round, I fished a Crawdad. This time, I fish a hard bait that looks like a Yo-Zuri lure.

I started out fishing a Chartreuse one but switched to an Inline Spinner because the pond had lots of greenery fouling the lure.

Soon after, a Bass chased a Bluegill into the shallows directly in front of me. Got some cool video of it! That said, I cast the spinner and caught a Bass... may have been the one that was chasing a Bluegill!

Afterwards, I lost the spinner to a Tree Fish. I decided to go back to the $2 Lure but went with a White one. I also removed the rear hook and left the front hook on in hopes of fouling the lure less.

It did work, caught a Bass and also lost one! I learned a stop and go retrieve works well, and watched a Bass swallow the lure... I set the hook but did not land it.

Fun times... to check back, playing around with another $2 Lure... another Yo-Zuri imitation that looks very similar to a Snapbean!

Ultralight Bass Fishing | Kastking Zephyr and 1/16oz Rooster Tail Works!

Fished the local pond with the Kastking Zephyr BFS reel on a Shakespeare Microcast Rod and 1/16oz Roostertail. Switched the 10lbs braided line that had a 2lbs mono equivalent diameter for 4lbs mono… no more line slipping under the spool!

Caught two bass and found a lure someone lost… not bad, left with more lures than I had at the start. Not the norm for yours truly!

PS. Shimano BFS reel delivers today… check back for an unboxing post!

Inline Spinner Does Well, then Bread Gets a Catfish!

Fished Bethany this morning before the rain arrived.  Caught Bass and a Sunfish using inline spinners.  No Bruisers but was good to see the Bass were active.  Then, noticed something feeding on the surface on Bread.  Switched to Bread and freelined it.  Ended up catching a 20" Catfish! This one makes the Fishing Bulletin Board. Fun stuff!

One Bluegill and Two Bass This Round

Fished Auburn Springs this evening.  Cold front rolled in the other day and dropped temps.  Was having fun catching Bass on Senkos.  Decided to try an inline spinner this time.  Managed to catch a Bluegill and two Bass fishing a Rooster Tail.  Largest fish was a Bass that went almost 14" in size.  Fun stuff!

More Inline Spinners But... Bass On Their Beds!

Returned to Bethany with inline spinners.  But, could see Bass on their beds.  Had to adjust the retrieve and drag the spinner slow across the bed to get the first one to strike.  Then, switched back to a steady retrieve and caught some little scrappy ones.  Going to switch lures to adjust to the pattern change!

More Inline Spinners at Bethany

Fished the evening bite yesterday.  Caught (lost count but we think) eight Bass.  No Bruisers but still a lot of fun on ultralight gear.  Lost several of our homemade inline spinner to snags; tied on a Rooster Tail and caught Bass; then lost it... tied on another one and caught Bass.  Fun stuff!

Inline Spinners....

Decided to fish Inline Spinners this evening at Bethany Lakes.  Started out with our Purple Wooley Rooster Martin; fished it with a steady retrieve.  Managed to catch three Bass before losing it to a Tree Bass.  Switched to an Orange Rooster Tail and caught a scrappy little Bass!  Not bad, lotta fun, able to get a round in before the next cold front arrived!

Trout Bite Was On at Frisco Today!

Frisco hosted their annual Trick or Trout Derby today.  Missed the derby but was able to fish the  afternoon before the rain arrived.  Was a tough go at first with the cold and wind. But, did manage to limit out!

Started casting the Four Weight Fly Rod despite the strong wind. Caught a little Stocker Trout and a little Bluegill.  Also, had several missed strikes.

Switched to Powerbait and caught one Trout, then noticed the Trout started rising and schools were working the surface around the fountain.

Changed to a Copper Super Duper, added split-shot for more casting weight, and then casted for distance.  Was able to limit out fairly quickly.

Fun stuff... saw others catching them on Super Dupers, Rooster Tails, Corn, and Powerbait.  Action should be good for the next few days weather permitting!

Thirteen Bass and Two Bluegill on Rooster Tails, then Three Catfish on Cheerios!

Fished Bethany this evening.  Caught thirteen Bass (no Bruisers) and two Bluegill using Rooster Tails and Ultralight Gear.  Then, as it got dark, noticed activity in the shallows while walking back to the car.  Switched to bait and freelined Cheerios;  ended up catching three decent Catfish.  Had to call it quits but left them biting.  Catfish ranged from 18" to 20"+!  Fun stuff!

Nine Fish On Inline Spinners This Round

Fished Bethany this evening.  Went with inline spinners starting out with a Rooster Tail.  Caught one Bluegill and missed several Bass.  Switched to the Wooley Rooster Martin and caught more Bass and two Catfish.  Fish count this round:  One Bluegill, six Bass, and two Catfish. Used Ultralight Gear and four pound test, making the fish feel like Bruisers... fun stuff!

Fished This Morning, But...

Fished this morning at Bethany.  Caught seven Bass on a Rooster Tail but had to call the trip short as we had some car issues.... ended up needing to get it towed to a local garage.  No worries... still fun fishing while waiting for the tow truck to arrive!

Another Inline Spinner, then a Rooster Tail

Made another inline spinner.  This one is similar to the HL Spinner that we used yesterday.  Main difference is the single hook and the curly tail grub instead of the dressed treble hook.  Went to Bethany and fished it.  Had several light strikes, then caught a little Bass.  Afterwards, went to an Orange Rooster Tail and caught some bedding Bluegill and another little Bass!

Break in the Rain; Went Fishing

Rain was pouring this morning.  But, there was a break in the rain.  Long enough for a quick trip to Bethany,... so went fishing.  Fished for about 30" using Ultralight Spinning Gear and an Orange Rooster Tail. Caught four Bass of which two measured 14" in size.  Bite was still on when the rain started up again.  Decided to dry out and head for some coffee and doughnuts.

Rooster Tails Do Well at Bethany, But Watch for Snakes.

Fished Bethany this evening.  Caught three Bass on a White Rooster Tail, then caught seven Bass and a Bluegill on an Orange Rooster Tail.  Seeing Bluegill in their beds, so things should heat up on the Panfish side of things.  Do watch out for Snakes; watched one that went four feet in length cross the sidewalk and headed for the Upper Pond!

More Fun Fishing an Ultralight and Roostertails

Rain stopped after dinner; decided to rig up the Ultralight with a White Roostertail and head to Bethany.  Caught six Bass working the banks.  Most were caught within 5 feet of the shore.  Even better, water level is up so spent more time fishing than clearing the lure of algae!

Ultralight Spinning Gear and a Roadrunner Worked Well at Bethany this Evening

Fished Bethany this evening to round out today's fishing activities.  Had a lot of fun catching Bass at the Village on Flyfishing Gear.  Switched to Ultralight Spinning Gear for this round!  Started out with a Roadrunner.  Spent more time clearing algae, then fishing.  Looks like the warm temps has the "greenery" growing in and out of the water.  Switched to a 1/16 oz Black Roostertail with a silver blade and started getting strikes and hookups!  Key today was to fish areas clear of algae or    where the algae remained submerged.  Then, worked the Roostertail using a slow retrieve that kept the blade spinning but fast enough to keep the lure above the submerged algae.  Also, holding the rod tip high and polarized sunglasses helped keeping the lure clear!
