Back to Murphy City Hall Pond This Round (Feb 22, 2015)
Made it back to Murphy City Hall Pond before the front arrived. Used an Olive/Brown Near Deere, PowerBait, and a Super Duper to limit out!
Fishing Buddy hooked up with three on PowerBait, one on a Black Super Duper, and one on an Olive/Brown Near Deere. I took a limit on the fly with an Olive/Brown Near Deere.
Saw others hooking up as well! Not sure what they were using but the Trout were biting! Now it's time to bundle up and prepare for the colder temps and freezing conditions.

Tough Round at Frisco Saturday (Feb 15, 2015)
Late start Saturday for Nuclaroche and I. We planned to fish Frisco Commons for Rainbow Trout that morning but I was sidetracked by work and then some early "Spring" cleaning of the office. By the time all was done, it was late afternoon.
Around 4PM, we made it to Frisco and fished till after sunset. Nuclaroche hooked up with one Rainbow Trout using PowerBait. I stuck with different dry flies trying to hook the Trout that were rising on the surface, and then eventually switched to the Micro Fly Rod.
A quick check to match the hatch did not help either. I had caught one of the bugs flying around, and then tried several fishing flies that looked like it. No luck!
Still had fun catching little Bluegill on the Micro Fly Rod!

Early Evening Gets More Trout at Bethany Lakes [12-25-2014]
Originally posted 12-25-2014
Early evening bite at Bethany looked good for some! Despite windy conditions, fishermen were getting bites and some were limiting out.
Key notes from the evening were:
- PowerWorms and PowerBait under a Bobber were getting strikes
- COAF Griffith's Gnat was working on rising trout
- Several fishermen using Corn reported no nibbles... striking out without a trout
Video below shows action using the COAF Griffith's Gnat.

Bethany Lakes in Allen
Reports from the Team indicated the action Saturday morning was steady for some while slow for others. In the Team's case, one Rainbow Trout fell for an Olive Wooley Bugger at Bethany Lakes in Allen.
Key notes from the morning round were:
- Slow retrieve and/or stop and go retrieve seemed to work
- Casting spoons like Super Dupers in Gold and Silver and Mini-Jigs were getting strikes
- Bubble Fly Rig cast to fish feeding near the surface were getting strikes
- Fish were also taking PowerBait and PowerWorms
- Action was steady initially but tapered off with the exception of the Bubble Fly Rig.
- Action remained steady for the rig (see the section titled Bubble Fly Rig in the article "Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing - Community Lakes")
Waterloo Park Pond in Denison
Saturday afternoon the action picked up when the Team headed to Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. The Team limited out using an Olive Near Deere, Copper Super Duper, and a Power Bait.
Key notes from the afternoon round were:
- Near Deere was getting strikes as it sank slowly on no retrieve
- Super Duper was also getting strikes as it sank slowly or when fished slow
- Fish were also taking PowerBait, PowerWorms, Corn, and Salmon Eggs

The Day Before... Bethany Lakes Trout Stocking [12-14-2014]
[Originally Posted 12-14-2014]
It's the day before the annual rainbow trout stocking at Bethany Lakes in Allen. The Team is anxious to wet a line and hook a little Stocker Trout!
However, this year the Team will miss tomorrow's fun as they will be attending a graduation ceremony back at Aggieland. The Team will be in full force in College Station to be sure it is no hoax but one of own is graduating!
That said, for those able to make it tomorrow, the Team suggested posting the video from last year's opening day at Bethany. The video is posted below; do check it out.
Key items from that day were:
- PowerBait worked initially but the action slowed but remained steady
- Gold Super Duper on a steady retrieve did not work
- Gold Super Duper on a stop and go retrieve worked
- Trout tended to strike as the lure fluttered down while stopped
Also, last year the weather was sunny and cool; this year it looks like rain and overcast conditions are expected. Not sure how it will affect the fishing; be prepared to switch baits and lures accordingly!
Till next time... Good Luck and Good Fishing!

YouTube Shorts | Trout Fishing | Corn vs Powerbait?
More fun collating past trips into the YouTube Shorts video format. This one was a fun trip to a small pond stocked with trout. Decided to fish corn and Powerbait to see which bait the trout liked. Lesson learned… Bring both!
Added it to the COAF Shorts playlist – check it out!

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | Two Plus One Tips for this Stocking Season
No fishing today, but made time to post two fishing tips that may of interest for those fishing the Texas Rainbow Trout Winter Stocking this season, and then we added one more that applies more to the warmer fishing season.
First tip is on the Adjusta Bubble we like using for our Bubble Fly Rigs. Issue we have is when trying to thread the fishing line through the rubber stop, the line tends to curve and as a result it hangs up on the rubber. Easy fix… “spin it”! Spin the Adjusta Bubble as you thread the fishing line.
Second tip is modifying the PowerBait Rig we mention in our article – “PowerBait Fishing Rigs for Rainbow Trout”. Specifically, Trout Fishing Rig #2 that is similar to a Carolina Rig. We skip the slip swivel and use 30lbs Dacron backing tied on to the fishing line with a slip bobber knot and some Superglue.
The Plus One tip is reposting the “Making My Senkos Last Longer with Superglue” video to explain why we have Superglue in our fishing vest.
Hope these are helpful this season! And do check back for more videos as we fish the Texas Rainbow Trout Winter Stocking season.

Light Strikes at Waterloo This Round
Three of us fished and managed to take three limits. NucLaroche and T-Bone caught them on PowerBait and Ultralight Gear. Fshng84 fished a COAF Guadalupana and a Four Weight Fly Rod.
The strikes were light but the Team did manage to take five each! Even caught one of the tagged Trout from the Derby! Fun stuff!

Fishing the Guad... at Huaco Springs!
When we arrived, could see the Rainbow Trout swimming about. NucLaroche worked one side of the river with an Ultralight Spinning Rig and caught two with PowerBait and three on a homemade Super Duper.
Fshng84 worked the other side using Fly Fishing Gear and caught four on a Prince Nymph and one on a COAF Guadalupana!
Fun stuff... with two limits taken on a chilly but sunny day!

Cold Morning... Caught a Limit!
Tried catching them using fly fishing gear; had a few strikes but did not hook up. After a couple of hours, headed to the house to warm up and add a few more layers to stay warm.
After a cup of coffee and when the feeling came back in my toes, headed back for another try. This time was able to catch two on PowerBait and three on a GRHEN!
Fun stuff but do dress warm!

Another Evening Round at Bethany Lakes!
Slow action, taking three hours to limit out. The last one took over an hour to catch but did have two nibbles between Trout #4 and Trout #5!
Fun stuff!

Late Start; Fished the Evening this Round!
Did get three using Trout Fishing Rig #2 (see PowerBait Fishing Rigs for Rainbow Trout) PowerBait after about 1.5 hours.
After another 30", caught one on the second rod rigged with Trout Fishing Rig #1. And then, 30" later caught the last one on the second rod as well.
Fun stuff... not bad for 2.5 hours on a quiet and cool (non-freezing temps) evening!

Trout Stocking at Bethany Today!
Fshng84 gave it a try working a Gold Super Duper. Managed to limit out with five, and then stood by and watched NucLaroche catch two to make his limit also using a Gold Super Duper!
Did notice that the trout tended to strike the lure as it fluttered when we stopped reeling. First tried a steady retrieve without success, and then did a stop and go retrieve that seemed to work... at least for this round.
Lots of fun, a number of limits being taken. Action should be steady over the next few days... at least until the Cormorant arrive!

Slower But Steady Action at Waterloo This Round
Action was slower compared to yesterday but was steady! Was able to get a limit of five; also saw others limiting out, too. Used PowerBait Trout Dough Bait with Glitter and Extra Scent and an Ultralight Rod. Tried catching them with fishing flies but had no takers.
Fun time with cold temps but no wind and lots of sun!
PS: Used Trout Fishing Rig #3 as noted in the online article - PowerBait Fishing Rigs for Rainbow Trout. The pond at Waterloo has a fountain that made a strong current where the Trout were lurking. The rig worked well and held in place and made for more consistent hook ups!

Kicked Off the Season at Waterloo!
Started fly fishing with zero strikes; switched to PowerBait and quickly caught three. Went back to fly fishing and tried various fishing flies and retrieves.
Finally hooked up using a Bead Head Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph and letting it sink for a 10-15 count. Used short retrieves and watched the line closely for any hint of a strike!
Did some catch and release fishing for a little while, then called it a day after keeping two caught on the fly!
PS: Did see others limiting out using PowerBait, Power Eggs, and Corn! Action was steady!

Out and About... Ends with a Limit!
Fished Bethany Lakes Friday evening. Very cold, would not have been so bad if we could have landed a fish. Had two hookups but lost them soon after!
Next morning, went to Towne Lake in Mckinney. Still very cold; made worse by the wind. Fished for an hour and had some strikes using a GRHEN but missed setting the hook. Did see others catching them on Powerbait!
Decided to checkout the action in Prosper's Community Park. They hosted a Trout Derby to kick-off the Trout Stocking. When we arrived, Trout were actively feeding on tiny midges. Too bad they did not want our fishing flies.
Switched to Powerbait and waited out the bite; started hooking up the around 5PM. After a long day, limited out!
Did see others doing better, catching them using Bread, Corn, Powerbait, and something called a Trout Magnet! It was the hot bait today, out fishing all others this round!

Good Action at Towne Lake this Morning!
Fished the morning bite at Towne Lake in Mckinney. Went with Powerbait and hooked up with four fairly quickly. Did miss a number of strikes, too.
Switched to fly fishing gear after catching the fourth Trout; did not get a strike. So, went back to bait and caught the last one on the first cast.
Fun stuff!
