Keeping It Simple, One Fishing Fly To Limit Out #fishing #flyfishing #trout
Plan was to fish Waterloo Park Pond in Denison with Centerpin Combo but switched last minute to a One-Handed Spey Fly Fishing Combo that used the OPST Commando Head 175grn on a 4wt, 8ft fly rod.
Cold and windy morning, I decided to keep it simple and use on fishing fly - an Olive Near Deere. I would adjust my retrieve and depth until I limited out.
Do check out the video where I find the pattern limit out!
Note: I used a 175grain OPST Commando Head not a 200grain as mentioned in the video.

Dry Flies at Waterloo This Round (Feb 15, 2015)
Fun time in Denison today. Nuclaroche and I fished Waterloo Park Pond. After a lot of missed hook sets to rising trout feeding on little, black bugs, we figured out the pattern - a COAF Griffith's Gnat in Size 16!
The Trout started out taking dry flies on a dead drift but as the wind picked up and the insects started "skittering" on the surface more, the Trout were wanting more movement on the dry fly.
Fun day, especially being able to catch them on dry flies. Also, had lots of fun casting and catching fish using the COAF Micro Fly Rod!

Another Front On the Way [1-06-2015]
Originally published January 6, 2015
Noticed the weather forecast is warning of another cold front arriving this week. Looks like cold temps and wintry precipitation is likely. Moreover, no reports from the Field Team. Suspect they are hot and heavy working their day jobs to "mess" with fishing. No worries for this Blogger... or as Glenn calls me, "The Weblog Admin". That said, since I am a volunteer and don't get paid, I do like being referenced as "The Weblog Admin"!
So until the next report, here is picture that the Team sent. From his notes, it sounded like the birds return each year to Waterloo in Denison!

Team Limited Out at Waterloo [1-03-2015]
Originally published January 3, 2015
Received an update from the Team... limited out at Waterloo!
- Two went for the GRHEN on a Tandem Rig Near Deere and GRHEN.
- Remainder went for PowerBait.
Overall, it looked like a number of fishermen limited out. Bait seemed to outdo lures. No worries, Good thing our fishing buddy figured out the pattern this round and had PowerBait ready to go!

Saturday Morning…? [1-03-2015]

Saturday morning... Looks like the rain is letting up. Checked the local ponds and noted water levels are up.
Have not heard from the Team about the action at Bethany Lakes but will post an update as soon as they report in.
That said, here is a picture showing the water is flowing at Bethany Creek Pond (just up the road from Bethany Lakes)!
Water is flowing! |
PS: City of Denison is hosting a Trout Derby today at Waterloo Park Pond! For more info, go to the city's website.

Fished Waterloo In Denison This Morning [12-28-2014]
Field Team reported a limit of Trout caught at Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. One member struck out but did get a couple of strikes. Overall, cold temps slowed the action down but did pick up as the day warmed.
Key notes this round:
- Catfish were striking PowerBait
- BH GRHEN fished 2′-3′ under an indicator were getting strikes in the morning (overcast and cold)
- As the sun came out, bite turned off for the BH GRHEN
- Heard from others that Near Deere were getting bit later in the day
Video clip below shows the action on the BH GRHEN:

Bethany Lakes in Allen
Reports from the Team indicated the action Saturday morning was steady for some while slow for others. In the Team's case, one Rainbow Trout fell for an Olive Wooley Bugger at Bethany Lakes in Allen.

- Casting spoons like Super Dupers in Gold and Silver and Mini-Jigs were getting strikes
- Bubble Fly Rig cast to fish feeding near the surface were getting strikes
- Fish were also taking PowerBait and PowerWorms
- Action was steady initially but tapered off with the exception of the Bubble Fly Rig.
- Action remained steady for the rig (see the section titled Bubble Fly Rig in the article "Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing - Community Lakes")
Waterloo Park Pond in Denison
Saturday afternoon the action picked up when the Team headed to Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. The Team limited out using an Olive Near Deere, Copper Super Duper, and a Power Bait.

First Fish for 2021!
Was out and about today. Too nice a day to stay indoors. Decided to make a quick trip to Waterloo Pond while passing through Denison today. Was hoping for a limit but it was not the case. That said, yours truly caught his first fish for 2021… a little trout that went for a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and GRHEN. Trout went for the GRHEN! Great start to 2021!

Tough Go This Round at Waterloo
Took a while to figure out the pattern; turned out a BH GRHEN under a strike indicator did the trick at least for Fshng84. NucLaroche had a couple of missed hook sets, else he struck out.
Still a fun time despite the cold temps. Video/report posted at StockerTroutFishing.com!

Waterloo This Round
Caught and released a number of Trout using an Olive Near Deere. Did run out of them; switched to a Wooley Bugger and a also a COAF Guadalupana with a strike or two but no hook ups.
Did limit out with five; luckily was able to get the last two Trout to take a Tandem Rig Olive Wooley Bugger and a GRHEN. Both times the Trout went of the GRHEN.
Did miss not having a Near Deere; will tie more later! Overall, was a great day fishing!

Afterwards, headed to Denison to have some fun catching tonight's dinner! Limited out using a Size 10 COAF Guadalupana. Had to try different retrieves and adjust when the Trout started getting picky. Fun stuff!

Light Strikes at Waterloo This Round
Three of us fished and managed to take three limits. NucLaroche and T-Bone caught them on PowerBait and Ultralight Gear. Fshng84 fished a COAF Guadalupana and a Four Weight Fly Rod.
The strikes were light but the Team did manage to take five each! Even caught one of the tagged Trout from the Derby! Fun stuff!
