Inline Spinners for Bass? Why They Still Work with BFS and Ultralight

Some baits never go out of style, and the inline spinner is one of them. Most anglers think of it as a trout lure, but bass will absolutely crush it when the conditions line up. That little flash, that steady vibration — it’s a confidence bait for Average Angler Life, especially when I’m running BFS or ultralight gear.

Inline spinners shine when bass are cruising, chasing bait, or just not committing to bigger profiles. They’re simple, they cast well for their size, and they let you cover water without overthinking the retrieve. Sometimes the easiest bait in the box is the one that gets the job done.

Here’s a quick highlight from the water — a reminder that if you’re into BFS or ultralight fishing, don’t forget to keep a few inline spinners in your pack. They might just save the day.

Early Shallow Bite: Bass on a Mepps Aglia Inline Spinner

The bass showed their hand early today. Instead of waiting for the sun to warm things up, they pushed minnows into the shallows and started feeding sooner than I expected. Moments like that flip the whole plan on its head — and that’s where the fun begins for Average Angler Life.

When the bite turns into a baitfish chase, I reach for something simple, bright, and reliable. The Mepps Aglia Plain Trout inline spinner has bailed me out more times than I can count, and today it came through again. A little flash, a steady retrieve, and it matched the mood of those shallow‑water bass perfectly.

Here’s the quick highlight — early minnow activity, a fast pattern change, and a spinner that got the job done. Just another honest day on the water, reading what the fish are telling you and rolling with it.

Ultralight Baitcaster Win: Trout on a Rooster Tail

Some days on the water are all about the little wins — and today, Average Angler Life avoided the dreaded strike‑out. After a few close calls, I finally convinced a trout to commit to a Rooster Tail inline spinner fished on an ultralight baitcasting setup. Light line, tiny blade, and just enough flash to seal the deal.

There’s something special about ultralight baitcasting. Every bump feels bigger, every take feels sharper, and when that fish finally loads up the rod, it’s pure fun. Nothing oversized, nothing dramatic — just an honest, clean catch that reminds you why simple gear and simple moments matter.

Here’s the quick highlight from the trip — a small victory, a solid strike, and another good day on the water with Average Angler Life.
