More fun fishing the Blue River in Oklahoma this past Sunday. Morning started out below freezing and overall the trout bite slowed for some of us. But, I did manage to limit out with three trout. I did see some nice size ones moving about but no takers for yours truly.
Also, did more exploring of the area north of Hughes Crossing and checked out "The Boulders" per Zach Flatt's recommendation - see his website at https://flattoutfishing.com/ for more details.
Overall, it was a nice "chill" or maybe "chillier" day but it was sure lots of fun. Do check out the video. Also, will plan a livestream to step through the video and possibly answer any questions about the trip.
PS: Shout out to the folks I met on the River! Awesome to meet ya'll. Appreciate the support; hope to see you again sooner than later on the River.

Past trip to the Blue River fly fishing for trout. Used various flies including this one - the Producer! See full video at COAF Field Team
Here is a follow-up fishing video that describes five fly fishing presentations that have worked well for us when trout fishing in Oklahoma – specifically, the Blue River, Broken Bow (also known as the Lower Mountain Fork), and Turner Falls.
The five fly fishing presentations are:
– Upstream
– Upstream 45 degrees
– Cross Stream
– Downstream 45 degrees
– Downstream
Of note, one must continue to maintain a drag free drift to ensure the fishing fly mimics a natural moving “bug”.
PS: Video includes one more presentation that is a variation of several them.
Fished the Blue River in Oklahoma this past Sunday for a chance at trout for dinner. Fishing was tough for yours truly. Managed a Longear Perch, and two Rainbow Trout.
Used the 6wt TFO Fly Rod and caught the Perch on a Pink Near Deere with Rubber Legs, one Trout on a White Megaworm, and the other Trout on a Tandem Rigged White Megaworm with trailing PMC Emerger.
Was hoping for a limit of trout to cook blackened fish style using a recipe from @30milesOut – see video at Blackened Redfish Recipe. Ended up adding two Catfish to the two Trout to make dinner… tasty, tasty.
Do check out the video, and do note the clear water and trout moving about below and above the low water crossing!
Fun time fishing the Blue River in Oklahoma. Recently stocked with Rainbow Trout, made the run across the border from Texas to Oklahoma for a go at the trout. Olive Near Deere and Tandem Rigged flies seemed to get a strike or two… after yours truly shook off the missed strikes and hooksets.
Good thing I got my mojo back and was able to get a limit to start the 2020-2021 trout stocking season. Longer than normal video but add footage exploring the area near Hughes Crossing and playing with the trout in the clear water by the Low Water Crossing.
Do check it out! Hope to be back for more trout fishing fun on the Blue River!
Here is a video to mark the start of the Oklahoma Trout Stocking Season – specifically, the Blue River which was stocked today with Rainbow Trout. Getting some questions from folks, so here is some info to keep at the ready this season!
