Pond Fly Fishing - Good Morning (Edited) #Mobile #Fishing #Livestream

Cooler Temps, Breakout the Fly Gear!

The edited version of the Mobile Fishing Livestream video where I fly fish a pond using a Producer Fishing Fly and a 4wt Fly Rod!

Key Highlights:

  • Producer in an olive variant worked well for Bass and Bluegill.
  • Stealthy approach to the bank and casting standing back 10-15 feet minimized spooking the fish lurking near the bank.
  • Fish readily struck the fishing fly; however, when Bluegill on beds were encountered, a slow retrieve through their beds seemed to work best!

Try This Tip, Catch a Few More Fish #flyfishing #fishing #tips

Watch Your Line!

Don't forget to keep an eye on your fly line while fly fishing. Sometimes, it's the only sign that a fish has taken the bait!

Additionally, being attuned to the subtle movements and changes in your line can greatly enhance your overall fishing experience.

Patience and attentiveness are key; often, the most rewarding catches come to those who are observant and persistent.

Remember to enjoy the serenity of your surroundings as well—fly fishing is as much about connecting with nature as it is about the thrill of the catch.

Happy fishing!

Take a Leap and Level Up Your Hookset Game #fishingfun #anglingadvice #reelitright

Whether you're a seasoned angler or just starting out, mastering the perfect hookset can make all the difference in landing that trophy fish. Start by paying attention to the tension in your line; too loose, and you might miss the bite, too tight, and you risk snapping your line. Practice makes perfect, so don't be afraid to spend some time honing this crucial skill. Remember, patience and persistence are key. Happy fishing, and may the waters always be in your favor!

Do give it a try... no strike indicator, short pull retrieve,  set the hook at any indication of a strike... line hesitates, twitches, or pulls or the fly disappears,...

Try This Retrieve for Trout - Downstream Drift

Sometimes a downstream drift to trout may be needed. Here is how I fished the Blue River in Oklahoma one trip when trout were lurking in a pocket. Do give it a try!

This trip the trout were not cooperating. They were staying in the pocket but were ignoring the fishing fly.

I moved upstream and started using this retrieve and once I got the timing and depth dialed in, the trout struck immediately!

Five Fly Fishing Presentations for this Season... Trout Fishing Anyone?

Here is a follow-up fishing video that describes five fly fishing presentations that have worked well for us when trout fishing in Oklahoma – specifically, the Blue River, Broken Bow (also known as the Lower Mountain Fork), and Turner Falls.

The five fly fishing presentations are:

– Upstream

– Upstream 45 degrees

– Cross Stream

– Downstream 45 degrees

– Downstream

Of note, one must continue to maintain a drag free drift to ensure the fishing fly mimics a natural moving “bug”.

PS: Video includes one more presentation that is a variation of several them.

Fly Fishing: Quality Fly Line and a Bamboo Stake Pole

The other day decided to demo casting a quality fly line using a bamboo stake pole normally used for gardeners to support tomato plants.

This round, fished a local pond and caught a fish or two using the bamboo stake pole as a fly rod, weight forward floating 6 weight fly line, and a Near Deere fishing fly.

Fun stuff!

Getting Started Fly Fishing | Casting Quality Fly Line with a Bamboo Stake...?

That time of year when fishing questions start coming in. This one relates to getting started in fly fishing – specifically, our thoughts on budgeting for a fly rod/reel combo.

In this video, the introduction has a past video playing in the background… yours truly is casting a OPST Commando Head and no rod or reel at the local pond. It’s a quality line that makes for some nice casting especially when our back cast is clobbered.

Then, I describe a fly line that I will demo casting using a bamboo stake like the ones used to support tomato plants in a garden.

If a quality fly line can be cast using a stiff bamboo stake, then a good fly rod should easily cast the same fly line.

PS: Our suggestion has remained constant over the years… in general, we like to first purchase a quality fly line, then will buy the fly rod, and then either buy the reel last or repurpose one we already have.

That is, unless we are planning to use the new fly rod/reel combo for larger fish that require a good drag for fighting on the reel, then we will buy the reel before the rod or repurpose a rod we already have.
