Tube Popper Fly and Bread Did Well This Round!

Went fishing at Bethany this evening. Bite was good with several Bass, a Bluegill, and a Sunfish caught using a Tube Popper Fly!  Then, noticed lots of activity in an area where ducks were fed bread. Guess what, put some bread on the treble hook and left the Tube Popper Fly on the line. Hooked three Catfish; one went 23"... Good stuff!

Bread for Bait Still Works!

Headed to Bethany this morning; brought a fly rod but after a short while switched to a spinning rod and freelining bread. Caught 17 Catfish - a mix of small ones as well as ones that went ~17".  Did get one that went 19"!  Good to see the bread still works.  Had a lot of missed strikes, going to pick up more hooks later today.  Need to go with a slightly larger size hook.

Tube Damsel Fly Worked Well, Then Switched to Bread for Bait

Started out catching fish with a Tube Damsel Fly. Caught two Bass and two Catfish using a Tube Damsel Fly.  One Catfish went about 17.5".

Then, switched to bread for bait and caught a few nice Catfish. Most went 17"-18" with a few small ones mixed in.  Posted videos but did mis-count the number caught using bread... was not nine Catfish, think it was eight. No matter; had a fun time using what we had - a fly rod and freelining bread.

Only Two This Round

Only two this round but did have several missed hook sets and break offs.  Had tied two Tube Damsel Flies - one Olive and one Purple. Was able to hook and land a 17.5" Catfish with the Olive one, and then lost the fishing fly to a break off.

Fished the Purple Damsel Fly and had several more missed hook sets, and then had a Bruiser break the line. Out of Tube Damsel Flies, switched to COAF Damsel Flies.  More missed hook sets, and then noticed people feeding ducks with bread.

Soon after the Catfish showed, so put up the fishing fly and switched to freelining bread. Good thing... ended up catching Catfish #2; measured 22"!  Fun stuff!

Catfish and Bullheads on Bread!

Enjoying the later sunset since the time change this past weekend. Been tough getting a round in fishing but did manage to get out for a quick trip to Celebration Park's East Pond.

Fished with Bread and free-lined it using Spinning Gear.  Also, brought the hook setter we bought a couple of years or so ago. Was able to catch a Bullhead and a Catfish with the hook setter and another Bullhead without it.

The Bullheads went about 12" in size with big tummies probably from all the Bread in the water. The Catfish was a Bruiser, estimating ~22" in size!  This one makes the Fish Bulletin Board!

One Bass, One Catfish

Fished a Senko this morning at Bethany.  Had a strike and a miss, then a strike and a hook-up, and a strike and another miss!  One Bass on the Senko was the result.

Then, switched to Bread; caught a Catfish that went about 16" in size.  Took about 15" for the bite; tried one more cast using Bread.  No more hook-ups, so called it a morning.

Still a lot of fun.  Was good to see Senkos and Bread are working!

A Sunfish, a Little Catfish, and a Green LED Fishing Light Field Test

Fished Murphy City Hall Pond for Trout.  Ended up breaking off the last Size 12 COAF Guadalupana in the fly box.  Had been a consistent producer for Trout.  Gonna have to tie more and refill the fly box.

Switched to a Prince Nymph and struck out, then switched to Bread and started getting some strikes but no hook ups. Had brought a Bread Fly in hopes of hooking a fish with it.  Ended up catching a Sunfish and a little Catfish on Bread.

Did get a chance to test out the 6v Green LED Fishing Light.  Worked great; still working on the 9v version of it.  Circuit board is done; just need to get the PVC body completed.

Cold evening but still a lot of fun!

Only One Fish This Round... But It Was a Bruiser!

Cold front rolled in and the wind was rough.  Decided to check out the East Pond at Celebration Park for a chance at a Catfish.  Used Bread for bait and Ultralight Gear; only caught one this round.  But, it was a Bruiser Catfish that went 22.5" in size!  Fun stuff!

Something Is Still There....

Went back to Kroger Park for another go at the Bruisers that were feeding on bread the other day.  Brought more bread and a Bread Fly that we made using poly fibers from a pillow.

After chumming the area, cast the Bread Fly and a trailer hook baited with bread.  A Bruiser stole the bread, then hit the Bread Fly hard.  Fight lasted only seconds as the line broke soon after. Need to go with a stronger test line next time.

Having lost the Bread Fly, baited a hook with bread and managed a Bullhead and Bluegill just like the other day.  Frustrating to have had one break off; still had a great time though!

Something is There.

Went to Bethany Ridge this evening.  Was testing out a Senko Fly but soon switched to Bread for bait when we noticed something large feeding on Bread that someone had left for the ducks.

After chumming an area, started seeing some large Catfish splashing the water as they fed on the floating pieces of bread.

Only managed a Bluegill and a Bullhead but was good to know there are some Bruisers lurking in the pond!

Windy Day at Waterloo....

Was a windy day at Waterloo; luckily the Rainbow Trout were not bothered by it.  Steady action on the Guadalupana as well as Bread and Powerbait.  Two of us fished; two of us limited out!  Fun stuff!

Slow Down in the Action

Stopped by Bethany this evening.  Cold temps and some action for some before the sunset.  Looked like the Trout were going for Salmon Eggs and Bread.  Soon as the sun went down; action slowed with a few Trout being caught on Salmon Eggs.  This round managed to catch a Shellcracker again and a Trout on Bread.  Decided to call it quits after dark and head indoors to warm up!

Cold Front Dropped Temps,... But Bite is Still On!

Stopped by at lunch for a shot at the Trout at Bethany.  Cold front dropped temps but the bite was still on for some.  Trout were taking Orange Powerbait as well as White Marshmallows.  Tried bread and had one strike, else had to call it a trip.  Too cold with the strong wind cutting through layers of clothing.  Decided to come back later.

Returned later in the evening and action was steady.  Caught one using a slip-bobber and bread.  Had several strikes and misses, then the hook broke off.  Switched to freelining bread and caught three more Trout and a Shellcracker.

Then, the bite slowed.  After 15" without a strike, switched to Powerbait (Yellow Glitter Garlic) and caught Trout #5 on the first cast.  Fun stuff, even better because the wind calmed down compared to earlier in the day!

Pattern Changed....

Another round at Bethany this morning.  Things started out well with steady surface action and rising Trout.  Able to sight cast and hook and land two; missed about ten others.  Then, the action stopped.  Met another TFF Member and started working the area near the pier.  Had a lot of interested "looks" at GRHENs, Zebra Midges, GloBugs, and many other fishing flies.  Then, the other TFF Member hooked up with three that took a Micro Jig!

Unfortunately, had to leave them biting.  "Honey Do's" were calling - specifically, Christmas Shopping at the Mall.  However, got a break when we learned the Mall did not open till Noon. So, went back to Bethany to try for three more Trout to make a limit.

Brought Bread this time as the Trout were readily feeding on it earlier.  Tied on a Size 12 Hook and pressed the Bread into a flat shape, then freelined it just off the pier.  Ended up missing a number of strikes but did get three more Trout.

Pattern seemed to have changed.  Less surface activity and more lurking below waiting for food to come by.  Going to play the next week by ear and adjust appropriately.

Fished Glendover This Round

Fished Glendover this round.  Did a little "scouting" with the camera, taking a few underwater shots to see what was lurking near the pier.  Saw mainly Bluegill but did see a glimpse of a Catfish going by.  So, baited up a fishing rod with Bread and managed to catch two Catfish.  Largest went 20+" in size.  Fun stuff!

Fishing for Bluegill... Underwater Camera.

Went fishing for Bluegill at Kroger Park.  Was able to get some underwater video of the action.  Water was cloudy so things are fuzzy, then it got dark.  No matter,... it's still fun!

Too Nice a Day....

Went to Cabelas and picked up a couple of crankbaits.  Went with a Bass colored Cabelas Brand Square-Billed Crankbait and then a Rapala Brand one.  Being it was too nice a day, decided to test the Crankbaits out at Bethany.

Caught three Bass using the Square-Billed Crankbait; no strikes on the Rapala Brand.  Took a picture of two of the Bass; the third one was landed but slipped back into the water while trying to get the camera out.

Later, noticed the Catfish were feeding on Bread where people fed the ducks.  Caught three Catfish, largest went about 24" in size!  Fun stuff!

Only One This Time

Returned this morning to Bethany for another try at the Catfish.  Used Baitcasting Gear and a Bubble Float Rig with Bread for bait.  Had several take the bait but missed them.  Did manage one that we estimate about 18" in size!

Caught Three This Round at Celebration!

Went back to Celebration Park for more Catfish fishing using Bread for bait.  Used a syringe to pack the bread into compact, bait sized pieces to put on the hook.  Managed to catch and release three Catfish - two were Bruisers that went 18" and 23" in size!  Fun stuff... Bubble Float seems to be working!

One Bruiser at Celebration!

Tested out a bait recipe for our Trot Line at Celebration Park's East Pond.  Need to work on it a little more.  Did manage to catch a Bruiser that went 24" in length using Bread for bait!  Fun stuff!
