Live Highlight: Little Feeder Creek Holds Fish — Got Him to Bite!

Live Highlight: Little Feeder Creek Holds Fish — Got Him to Bite!

Average Angler Life • Pond Fishing • June 2026

Hey friends! Live highlight from the pond — this little feeder creek actually held a fish and he bit! 🎣

You never know what tiny spots might produce. I was checking this small inflow and sure enough, a fish came out and smacked the lure. These overlooked feeder creeks and side channels can be surprising little gold mines.

Why Small Water Matters

Big fish often use these small creeks for feeding or as travel routes, especially when the main pond is pressured or during certain times of year. Never walk past the “tiny stuff” — sometimes that’s where the fun bites happen.

It’s moments like this that make exploring every bit of shoreline so rewarding.

More Fishing Today!

Checked out the Feeder Creek that runs into Shadow Lakes this morning.  Saw Bass on beds; tough fishing with fly fishing gear as the brush and tree limbs tend to snag the fly line.

Did get one Bass to take a COAF Damsel Fly that was crawled slowly across its bed.  But, ended up losing it when it ran for a brush pile and broke off.

Later in the afternoon, fished the pond behind In-N-Out Burger and struck out!

Moved on to the Catch and Release Ponds at Plano East Senior High School.  After an hour without a strike using various fishing flies, went to the Size 12 COAF Damsel Fly after noticing small fry hugging close to the banks.

Worked the undercut banks and was able to hook and land three Bass.  Fun stuff...!

Out and About This Round

Decided to try some other places to fish this round.  Started at Russell Creek Park Pond in Plano.  Was hoping to fish for Bluegill in their beds using the Size 12 COAF Damsel Fly. Ended up striking out.

Went on to the pond at Davis Library and struck out again.  Did try for Bass in their beds but no takers.  Also, tried a Bread Fly on several large Koi.  No luck either.

Moved on to Oak Point Park Preserve in Plano; managed one little Bass on the Size 12 COAF Damsel Fly.

Went on to Allen and tried Kroger Park Pond (officially Bethany Ridge Park).  Saw several Bass but no Bluegill; Bass were not interested in being caught!

Then, went across the street to Bethany Lakes and caught several Bass using the COAF Damsel Fly.  Had to call it quits though but...

Made one last stop at the Feeder Creek that flows into the Shadow Lakes series of ponds. Managed a Bass, lost a decent Bass, and then caught several Panfish to include a Longear Sunfish, a Sunfish, and a Bluegill.

Liked the smaller Size 12 COAF Damsel Fly but be prepared for smaller fish overall.

Shadow Lakes' Feeder Creek Holding Fishys!

Fished one of the feeder creeks in the area.  Been a while since we fished them due to the drought.  However, with the recent rains, it looks like some creeks are holding enough water to support fish!  In this case, caught a Bass in a culvert pool, lost others, then began working the creek for Panfish.  Did get a few strikes on Bass but failed to land them - save for the one in the picture below.  Still fun catching Panfish on the fly; used the Burnt Orange Crawdad and a Pearl/Olive Crappie Jig Variant.
