The aim was to catch dinner and experiment with a new Catfish recipe. After using a cast net to catch Shad for bait at the boat ramp, we set out jug lines and successfully caught two Catfish and a Gar.
The Shad bait proved effective, although a tilapia on one jug line caught the larger of the two Catfish.
Despite a slow beginning, we managed to achieve our goal of catching dinner!
FYI: Two articles that may be of interest to some wanting to try jug fishing.

Been brainstorming ways to deploy juglines faster as well as relocate them as needed. Current juglines have taken a little too long to initially set them out as well as painful to pick them up and move them to another "better" location, especially when the bite is slow where you set them at the beginning of the day.
That said, this idea came to me one evening. And, after a quick bucket test in the backyard, I felt my brainstorming paid off! Check out the video for more!

Been tinkering with juglines for several seasons trying to make a self-setting jugline that would be faster and easier to deploy especially when kayaking. Here is a prototype I plan to test. Do check back!

This round I take the kayak to the local lake to catch a Catfish or two using jug lines! Bite was steady with five Blue Catfish caught. Largest went 20" in length!
Caught a nice size Catfish while fishing our local lake - Lake Lavon. Caught it on juglines fished in 10 feet of water. Caught other smaller Catfish; the largest went 32 inches! Was fishing from a kayak. Decided it was better to and it at the boat ramp. For this podcast, we summarize the trip and point out some key lessons learned to take with us on the next trip! Do check it out when you get a chance!
Was a tough start Saturday… windy and a little chilly, plus no shad at the boat ramp at Highland Park. Made the quick adjustment, and decided to head to calmer waters… Bratonia Park, and to the Branch Convenience Store for bait.
No shad but they did have Nightcrawlers. Enough for us to get started setting out juglines. Luckily, did catch a few shad in the shallows as well.
In short order, had our lines deployed. But, took almost two hours before the first bite… a Blue Catfish that went for Shad.
After the first one was caught, bite stayed steady with several undersized caught and released; and then, we caught six Catfish – five Blue Catfish and one Channel Catfish, for the stringer for Dinner… Blackened Catfish and Shrimp Etouffee!
