| Tips for my next lure! |
Damsel Fly Variant that uses one Grizzly Hackle and a foam body. Works great on Bluegill but if they get picky on the surface bite, pinch the tail and let it sink a few inches. And, then see what happens!
You can purchase various size Whip Finish Tools for Fly Tying, or you can make custom size ones that work well with larger fishing flies that have lots of things like hackle, feathers, and rubber legs that get in the way. Larger gap in the tool makes for easier whip finishing of foam grasshoppers and spiders where the final wraps are completed mid-body at times.

Or, Make Your Own:
Whip Finish Tool is handy. But, sometimes manually tying one works better.
Liking River Run Creations foam cutters. Beavertail model is nice cause I can trim it and make other patterns... not just a Hopper.
Gear in the video:
Simple Pattern that works on Bass, Striped Bass, and more. Give it a try. Easy tie and quick to tie, too!
Suggestion from a viewer, squirmy tail, nymph body... tied a variant that uses the same yarn as the Blue River Producer for the body, then added Grizzly Hackle. Gonna see if trout like it!
Stay tuned for follow-up video on how I tied it and how I fished it!
Tied a couple more Blue River Producer fishing flies to replace the one I lost the other day. Great pattern for Trout but works on Bass, too. For more details, see the video posted by Zach - originator of the pattern.
Tied a Producer Fishing Fly and fished the local pond. It is a Top Fishing Fly for Blue River Trout in Oklahoma. Looks like it works on Bass, too!
Simple but effective pattern with a couple of key steps to keep in mind when tying. For more details, see Flatt Out Fishing or contact Zach Flatt - originator of the pattern!

| Impromptu Fly |
Here is the Impromptu Fishing Fly that I invented on a whim. I planned to fish the local pond for spawning Bass sight casting as they guard their beds. As I like fishing fly that provides a high contrast to the lighter colored beds that Bass build during the spawn, I came up with an impromptu pattern that I now call the "Impromptu Fly"!
In the video below, I had tied this pattern about five minutes before fishing it. Do give this pattern a try and let us know how it works for you.
The recipe calls for:
Compiled videos from past posts about fly tying with a mix of fly fishing that may be of interest to some. It is a long video that includes several quick tying demonstrations as well as dialog about fishing them.
I tied most of the patterns using a Peak Rotary Vise. It is the last tying vise I purchased, and I don't plan on purchasing another vise. In the past I used a simple vise offered in a kit, moved to another vise that was heavier duty, and then to a discount rotary vise that I have since converted to a tube fly tying vise.
Do check out the video, and do try one or two of these patterns on your own tying vise!
