Live Highlight: Little Feeder Creek Holds Fish — Got Him to Bite!

Live Highlight: Little Feeder Creek Holds Fish — Got Him to Bite!

Average Angler Life • Pond Fishing • June 2026

Hey friends! Live highlight from the pond — this little feeder creek actually held a fish and he bit! 🎣

You never know what tiny spots might produce. I was checking this small inflow and sure enough, a fish came out and smacked the lure. These overlooked feeder creeks and side channels can be surprising little gold mines.

Why Small Water Matters

Big fish often use these small creeks for feeding or as travel routes, especially when the main pond is pressured or during certain times of year. Never walk past the “tiny stuff” — sometimes that’s where the fun bites happen.

It’s moments like this that make exploring every bit of shoreline so rewarding.

Drought Years Pond Tip: Learn the Bottom Now While Water Is Low (You’ll Be Ready When It Rises!)

Drought Years Pond Tip: Learn the Bottom Now While Water Is Low (You’ll Be Ready When It Rises!)

Drought Years Pond Tip: Learn the Bottom Now While Water Is Low (You’ll Be Ready When It Rises!)

Average Angler Life • Pond Fishing Tips • June 2026

Hey anglers! Live highlight from the drought years — low water on the local ponds. This is actually one of the best times to learn your spots.

When the water drops, you can walk areas you normally can’t reach. You get to see the true contour of the bottom, find old creek channels, submerged stumps, drop-offs, and hidden structure that fish love. Once the water level returns to normal, you’ll already know exactly where to cast.

Why Low Water Is a Huge Advantage

It’s like getting the pond’s blueprint for free. I’ve been mapping banks, noting key features, and taking mental (and real) notes. When the ponds fill back up, those “maybe” spots become confident fishing zones.

If you have ponds or lakes that are low right now, get out there and explore. It’s some of the smartest scouting you can do as an angler.

Why Standing Right on the Bank is Costing You Bass (And the Simple Fix That Changed My Catch Rate)

Why Standing on the Bank is Killing Your Bass Catch Rate (Simple Fix That Works)

Why Standing on the Bank is Killing Your Bass Catch Rate (Simple Fix That Works)

Average Angler Life • Bass Fishing Tips • June 2026

Hey friends, want to catch more bass without buying new gear? Then stop standing right on the bank!

I’m out here on the water and just had a solid bass smash my lure — while I was staying way back. Fish can see and feel you way easier than most anglers realize when you’re silhouetted on the edge. Back up, stay low, and watch your catch rate explode!

The Mistake Most of Us Make

We get excited, walk straight to the water’s edge, and start casting. What we don’t realize is that bass (and most predatory fish) have excellent vision and super-sensitive lateral lines. When you stand tall against the sky right at the shoreline, you become a giant moving silhouette. Game over before your lure even hits the water.

The simple fix? Give yourself 10–20 feet of buffer. Crouch or kneel when possible. Use trees, bushes, or tall grass for cover. Your presentations look more natural, the fish feel safer, and you get way more strikes.

Try it on your next trip and you’ll immediately feel the difference.

Drop a 👍 if You’re Trying This!

What’s the biggest bass fishing mistake you’ve made? Share it below — I read every comment and love hearing your stories.

Bass Shallow After Heavy Rain – Had to Make Adjustments

Bass Shallow After Heavy Rain – Had to Adjust My Approach

Bass Shallow After Heavy Rain

Had to Adjust My Approach 🎣

Heavy rains completely changed the conditions overnight.

The pond level rose and pushed the bass shallow. I adjusted my tactics to target the new shallows, but the fish were picky and wouldn’t fully commit. Classic post-rain fishing — sometimes they make you work for every bite.

Key takeaway: When the water rises fast, be ready to change your plan and fish where the bass move.

It was still a productive morning of learning the new conditions. These challenging days are what make us better anglers.

Have you fished right after heavy rain? How do the bass behave on your waters when the level rises? Share your experiences below!

Rig a Senko Weedless for Bass!

Here is how I like to rig my Senkos for Bass... weightless, Texas Rigged!

There are other setups that work well that include worm weights and wacky rig hooks with a weed guard. But, over each season, I tend to go back to a weightless, Texas Rig fished using bass fishing baitcaster combos as well as ultralight baitcasting aka bait finesse fishing.

The key is to make sure the hook and worm are aligned, and then try various retrieves to include no retrieve, a drag and stop retrieve as well as a steady retrieve.

Do give Senkos a try.., the Bass Spawn is happening sooner than later if not already. Your bass catch rate should improve with Senkos!

Mop Fly Worked for Green Trout!

Good pattern to keep at the ready with the upcoming trout stocking season in Oklahoma and Texas for us local fishermen.

It's a Mop Fly... simple, effective pattern that has worked well for trout fished on a dead drift under an indicator.

Do keep this one handy for trout... but keep in mind, it works for Green Trout, too!

PS: Here is a quick tie video of how I tie the pattern... Mop Fly!

Bass Chases a Bluegill... who won? #fishing #shorts

Was out fishing the other day when something splashed in front of me. Was not sure but figured it was a Bass. Checked out the video; it was a Bass chasing a Bluegill.... who won?

This $2 Lure Works, and an Inline Spinner | Plus Cool Video of a Bass Chasing a Bluegill!

Here is the second in the $2 BFS Lure Series where I fish discount lures using ultralight baitcasting gear.

First round, I fished a Crawdad. This time, I fish a hard bait that looks like a Yo-Zuri lure.

I started out fishing a Chartreuse one but switched to an Inline Spinner because the pond had lots of greenery fouling the lure.

Soon after, a Bass chased a Bluegill into the shallows directly in front of me. Got some cool video of it! That said, I cast the spinner and caught a Bass... may have been the one that was chasing a Bluegill!

Afterwards, I lost the spinner to a Tree Fish. I decided to go back to the $2 Lure but went with a White one. I also removed the rear hook and left the front hook on in hopes of fouling the lure less.

It did work, caught a Bass and also lost one! I learned a stop and go retrieve works well, and watched a Bass swallow the lure... I set the hook but did not land it.

Fun times... to check back, playing around with another $2 Lure... another Yo-Zuri imitation that looks very similar to a Snapbean!

50+ Year Old Rapala Floating Minnow Still Catches Bass!

Fifty plus years old Rapala Floating Minnow  still can catch a Bass or two! Round Two of the Vintage Fishing Lure series gets more Bass. Not as big as the Cisco Kid Diver and the 7+ lbs Bass but the Rapala Minnow still rocks in the 21st Century!

Quick trip to Lake Glenn gets several Bass on the vintage Rapala lure I picked up at an antique store in Denison, Texas. Working it on a jerky retrieve, the Bass were readily striking.

I did notice the Bass were tending to the North and East sides of the Lake. I suspect it was due to the clobbered areas along the South and West sides. Lots of hydrilla like greenery has much of the area fouled.

No worries though... Bass were scrappy with one going about 15 inches in length!

Ultralight Baitcaster | Rainy Day Bass Fishing at the Local Pond

When rain approaches, I decide to go fishing. After a ling dry spell of no rain, I go for a quick trip with the ultralight baitcaster for bait finesse fishing. In short order, it starts pouring. No worries, the bass were biting!
