Round three at Huaco Springs started early this morning. Fished a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly on the Four Weight Fly Rod and caught a limit of Trout! Strikes were light compared to yesterday and fish were really "picky" about the size of the fishing fly. No takers on a Size 14 but lots of action on the Size 12. Fishing buddy also limited out using an Ultralight Rod and a Bubble Fly Rig. Had four Trout go for the COAF Guadalupana, and one Trout take a BH GRHEN! Fun stuff... did see others taking them on Silver Super Dupers, Orange Power Bait, and Marshmallows. Also, when we first arrived, saw one nice sized Trout caught by one fisherman! Nice to know there are some Bruisers lurking in the area!
Was out in Gruene picking up more fishing flies. Did notice the nice looking Rainbow Trout hanging on the wall. This one went 22" in length; much bigger than the 16" one we caught the other dat at Rio Raft. Is good to know they have a few nice sized ones down there!
Good news from Texas Parks and Wildlife.... looks like we get another Season of access to the Guadalupe River courtesy of the State Leases with local campgrounds/resorts on the River! Good Luck and Good Fishing!
Snow delay, so no fishing as we bundle up to stay warm. Heard from some of our Readers that traffic is bad and the commute is longer than normal. Also, heard some are without power.... for us, we are online but the latest storm did break a tree limb that "nudged" the house. No damage luckily! So, till warmer weather, here is another article that may be of interest to Readers planning a trip to the Guadalupe River.... "Guadalupe River by L&L Campground: Rainbow Trout Fishing".
Fished the Guadalupe River at the Rio Raft access point today. Was a really nice day, saw several Rainbow Trout but only managed to catch one! It went 16" in length, too small for the minimum limit for the area we were fishing but still had a great time catching him. Used a 6wt Switch Rod and a Tandem Midge and Prince Nymph Rig. Trout struck the Prince Nymph! Did work a pool for about an hour plus that had Trout feeding on something but could not get them to strike. Tried midges, nymphs, dry flies, san juan worms, wooley buggers, guadalupanas,... the kitchen sink! No worries though,... the 16" Rainbow Trout that went for the Prince Nymph was a great consolation prize!
Fished the Guadalupe River yesterday and Lazy L&L Campground along the Devil's Playground. Hoped to hook another Rainbow Trout like the other day;no luck this round. Still a nice day; even found a net that someone lost!
Fished the Guadalupe River at Lazy L&L Campground in hopes of a Rainbow Trout.
Started the morning by working an area called the Devil's Playground. Things looked promising
but ended up striking out. Worked a Guadalupana, an Olive Wooley Bugger, and Midges without luck.
Someone else had a nice one take an Olive Wooley Bugger but it ended up breaking off.
Took a break around noon and stopped by the Reel Fly Shop for some suggestions... bought Trout Beads
and went back after lunch to Lazy L&L. Nice couple managing the store suggested trying up river.
Gave it a shot and had a few "ticks" on the Trout Beads but no hook ups.
Decided to go back to the Devil's Playground and work the upper pool and shallows. Saw a couple of Trout
feeding on (what looked like) midges. But, could not get them to take a fishing fly.
Moved downriver and started fishing the fast water by the steps. Tied on a Guadalupana
(a bigger one than the one we used earlier) and started swinging it in the current.
Finally had a hook up; a Rainbow Trout that went about 14" in size. Released it as it did not meet
the 18" minimum for that section of the river.
Long day in the cold rain fishing but still had a great time!
Tips for my next lure!

Made a dash to the River and fished Huaco Springs. Limited in time and had to deal with strong winds, managed one Stocker Trout. Little one that was released. Still had fun, still beats working!
Fished the Guadalupe River at Huaco Springs. Great day, great temps, even slipped and fell into the river while wading. But, was able to keep fishing until a limit was taken! Brought Powerbait and Fishing Flies; looked like the Fishing Flies won this round - specifically, the Guadalupana - same one that worked well at Waterloo in Denison. Really liking the day use access to the River provided by a Freshwater Fishing License!
Fished the Guadalupe River for Rainbow Trout this afternoon. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has leased a river access point at one of the areas they stock trout on the river. Nice being able to access the river with no additional fees other than your Texas fishing license.
The access point is located at Huaco Springs, New Braunfels. Signs readily point to the parking area for Trout Fishing once you enter the camp grounds. And, water was flowing and fish were congregating in pools and pockets along the stretch of the river.
Managed a limit of Trout using Chartreuse and Orange Powerbait. Saw others catching them on Corn and Spinners as well! Keeping this one in our backpocket next time we pass through the area!
