Back to Brockdale Park to Troll for White Bass

Went back to Brockdale Park this afternoon for more fun with the White Bass.  This time, opted to troll Roadrunners on a flatline instead of surfcasting Cork and Jig Rigs like we did this morning. Managed to catch eight keepers and let go a lot more under-sized fish!  Good day overall.

Stopped by Brockdale Park @ Lake Lavon With Surfcasting Gear

Stopped by Brockdale Park (Lake Lavon) armed with surfcasting gear to check if the White Bass have returned.  Caught 5 keeper-sized White Bass with the largest going almost 15" in size.  Also, caught and released under-sized White Bass, Yellow Bass, and a little Largemouth Bass!  Good to know the fish have returned to the Point... Fun Stuff!

Brockdale Park a Bust; Stoney Hollow Results in a Little Bass and a Bluegill.

Stopped by Brockdale Park to see if the Yellow Bass and White Bass have returned to the "Point".   Used a Cork and Jig Rig and surfcasting gear without success.  Decided to practice casting at Stoney Hollow Park resulting in a little Bass and a Bluegill!

One Keeper Trolling at Brockdale Park.

Decided to take the Jon Boat out to Lake Lavon. Launched at Brockdale Park and slow trolled for a couple hours. Only one hit but at least it was a Keeper. Hit a Rattle-Trap on a flatline. Video Clip: Click-on COAF Fishing Leader Board to checkout top fish caught this year by our readers.

70 Small White Bass

Fished Brockdale Park at Lake Lavon this morning. Action started slow but picked up once the schools came in. Left the point while they were still biting, catching and releasing 70 small White Bass. Used surfcasting gear and jigs with the Yellow Crappie Jig getting the most action. No keepers but still fun! Click-on COAF Fishing Leader Board to checkout top fish caught this year by our readers.

Only 30+ White Bass. No Keepers but Still Fun to Catch!

Can't help it, had to checkout the White Bass again at Brockdale Park this morning. Action started slow but picked up when they started schooling on the point. Caught 30+ White Bass; all were small with no keepers. Did see another fisherman, who was fishing with bait, bring in a White Bass that went 15"+. Only 3 This Round.

Went back to Brockdale Park this evening in hopes the White Bass were schooling. They were not there but did pull in three small White Bass. Click-on COAF Fishing Leader Board to checkout top fish caught this year by our readers.

40+ Small but Fun to Catch White Bass

Fished Brockdale Park this morning for another go at the White Bass. Fish were in shallows off the point; used Surfcasting gear and Cork and Jig Rigs like yesterday. Jig used was a Yellow Crappie Jig. Intent was to try out a fishing rod and reel combo made up of a collapsible fishing rod bought in Japan 15 years ago and a Ambassadeur 5000 reel bought over 20 years ago. Combo worked well with over 40+ White Bass caught and released! Small fish but still fun to catch. Click-on COAF Fishing Leader Board to checkout top fish caught this year by our readers.

Small White Bass, But Lots of Action!

Stopped by Brockdale Park this evening for a go at the White Bass. Fish were schooling off the point despite the low water level. Caught and released 20+ small White Bass. Only one was a keeper that went about 10.5" in size. Used Surfcasting gear and Cork and Jig Rigs. Same set-up we use when fishing Denison Dam's tailrace. Jigs used were a Wildeye Shad, Yellow Crappie Jigs, and White Crappie Jigs. Fun stuff regardless of their small size! Back to Lake Lavon

Went back to Lake Lavon to checkout some of the fishing areas we visited over the past few weeks. Noticed a lot of parking areas roped off this trip. Not sure why other than it is the 4th of July Weekend. Two places we stopped at were Brockdale Park and Highland Park. Brockdale was a bust but did allow us to test out a "Tennis Ball Fishing Float" - fishing float made from a tennis ball. Will write an article on how to make one and provide a link. Highland Park was good for Shad, else it was slow fishing and hot temperatures. May have to move away from the bank and use the jon boat or kayak. Lake Lavon - June 20, 2009

Took the opportunity to scout out a few areas around Lake Lavon this morning. Checked out the Bridge off of FM3286, Highland Park, and Brockdale Park. Overall fishing seemed slow but did notice some action by Highland Park - Shad by the Boat Ramp and a Gaspergou (Drum) caught on a Nightcrawler. Surfcasting for White Bass

Back to Brockdale Park at Lake Lavon this evening. Hit the point with Surfcasting Gear again and managed to hook 5 White Bass. One was a keeper, the rest were too small. Fished Lake Lavon's Brockdale Park this morning. Trolled with jigs off the point; caught zero. Decided to switch to a community lake; fished the creek by Towne Lake in Mckinney. No Joy Today - Lake Lavon @ Brockdale Park - June 7, 2008

No joy today at Brockdale Park. Trolled with White Crappie Jigs with no hits. Strong wind made it tough to fish. Factoring the wind and time of day - around Noon, may explain why we did not hook up. Going to have to give it a try later once the wind dies down. Checkout DFW Fishing News for more fishing information. Click-on DFW Fishing News.

Fished Lake Lavon at Brockdale Park. Caught 20+ White Bass but only 1 Keeper. Used the kayak and trolled a 1/16oz White Crappie Jig. Once a school was located, switched to flyfishing. Able to take a couple small ones using a fly tied like a Crappie Jig. Pictures posted below.

Did manage to catch 30+ small White Bass with 7 Keepers. Also caught 1 Yellow Bass. All were caught trolling with 1/16oz White Crappie Jigs, a variant of a White Crappie Jig, and a Green and White Clouser Minnow. Pictures posted below.

Lake Lavon @ Brockdale Park - May 24, 2008

Fished Lake Lavon's Brockdale Park again this morning for a couple of hours. Went in the kayak and trolled a White Crappie Jig and a variant tied with Pearl Chenille and White Krystalflash.

Caught 20+ small White Bass and one Keeper. Opted to release rather than take the one Keeper. Windy day again but still worth a try given the consistent action.

View overlooking the point at Brockdale Park:
