Foam Rubber Spider Variants

Could not breakaway today due to other committments. Opted to tie fishing flies to replace the Foam Rubber Spider Variants that I have been losing while fishing. Tied six Foam Rubber Spider Variants - White, Yellow, and Green. Tied in the same manner as a Foam Rubber Spider with one variation - body is shaped to simulate a grasshopper instead of a spider. Can be fished slowly on the surface or let it sink and fish it wet. When fished wet, simulates a small baitfish. Posted samples below. Samples. Checkout DFW Fishing News for more fishing information. Fishing in the Rain - August 18, 2008

Fished Bethany Lakes' Lower Pond in the early evening despite the rain showers. Caught three Bass, a Bluegill, and a Sunfish fishing a White Foam Rubber Spider Variant.
Bass ranged from 12" to 17.5" in size. Pictures posted below. Also, saw several large Koi working the shallows as it rained.
Nice break in the heat; even better with the fish being more active! Today's Catch. More detail on the larger Bass (17.5 inches). Checkout DFW Fishing News for more fishing information. Click-on DFW Fishing News.

Bethany Ridge and Bethany Lakes This Morning

Fished Bethany Ridge Park this morning. Saw Bass in the feeder creek and the main pond's shallows, approached lightly but could not connect. Went across the street to Bethany Lakes' Lower Pond and caught 10 Bluegill that went 7"+ in size and a small Sunfish. Used flyfishing gear and a Yellow Foam Rubber Spider Variant, most were caught shallow. Seemed picky this morning in that they preferred Yellow over White. Interesting. Pictures posted below. Bluegill and a Sunfish. Checkout DFW Fishing News for more fishing information. Click-on DFW Fishing News.

April 2008 eNewsletter

FYI: The April 2008 eNewsletter has been posted. Refer to the Recommended Links in the sidebar or click-on April 2008 eNewsletter. For easier reading, the ads posted on the right frame of the eNewsletter can be closed by clicking on the Tab in the ads section. Also, checked out Allen Station Dam this evening. No fish activity in the lower creek, silting basin, and upper creek. Suggest fishing Bethany Lakes and Shadow Lakes for Bass. Suggest fishing Bethany Lakes, Celebration Park, and Bethany Ridge Park for Bluegill and Sunfish. For Bass, a Blacknosed Dace Streamer and Clouser Minnows in blue and white have been consistent artificials. For Bluegill/Sunfish, Foam Rubber Spiders or a Brown Dry Fly have been taking them on the surface. Below the surface, a Royal Coachman Wet Fly and a Mallard Flank Jig Fly, a new pattern we have been testing, have been successful. Good luck and good fishing!

Bethany Lakes - March 29, 2008

Fished the Back Pond in hopes of Bass. No luck. Observed several 3+ lbs Bass on their nests in the shallows. Looks as if the spawn is on; Bass appear uninterested in the fishing flies presented.

Did have fun catching Bluegill/Sunfish on various fishing flies. Fish pictured below were caught using a Clouser Minnow, Foam Rubber Spider, Black and Red Zonker, a Mallard Flank Jig Fly, and a Brown Dry Fly.

Fish were hitting on the surface as well as just below the surface.

Bethany Lakes - March 24, 2008

Fished the Back Pond for about 45" in the late afternoon. Although a strong wind and cool temperatures were observed, the fishing was good.

Caught a number of Bluegill and Bass using flyfishing gear and a White Foam Rubber Spider or a variant of the Clouser Minnow in blue and white.

Bluegill ranged from 4" to 6" in size. Bass ranged from 7" to 9.5" in size. Sampling of today's fish listed below:

Bethany Lakes - March 20, 2008

Fished the Back Pond in the late evening for another try at Bass. Using flyfishing gear and a Foam Rubber Spider, was able to catch a few Bluegill. Fish were about 5" to 6" in size.

No luck on Bass. Saw several nice looking whirls in the water that were likely Bass. However, was not able to get a strike. Better luck next time!

Bethany Lakes - March 19, 2008

Fished the Back Pond and caught Bluegill using a Brown Dryfly and a Foam Rubber Spider. Started out slow with no strikes for the first hour.

Did see small Bass following fishing flies. Changed from a Clouser Minnow, Purple Zonker, and then a Black Zonker. No hook-ups.

Switched to the Brown Dryfly to catch a few Bluegill. This worked as the Bluegill fed in the shallows. Then, changed to the Foam Rubber Spider when the fish started hitting on the surface. Caught more Bluegill.

As it got dark, did have a Bass strike the Foam Rubber Spider but failed to set the hook.

Nice evening with much calmer wind than earlier in the day.

Foam Rubber Spiders

A lot of rain hit the area recently. Decided to take advantage of the break and tied a few fishing flies last night - Foam Rubber Spiders. Will post pictures of fish caught with them once things dry out. Good luck and good fishing!

PS: Checked out Celebration Park's North and East Ponds at lunch today. Both overflowed their banks and were murky (brownish haze in the water). Suggest waiting to fish at least until the wind calms down.

Quick Updates - January 28, 2008

Quick updates from the Team! In the City Of Allen: Bethany Lakes: Switch gears and fish for the Sunfish in the Lower Pond. As Spring nears be ready for a chance at Bass. Recommended flies are the Black Wooly Bugger, Black and Red Zonker Streamer, and Foam Rubber Spider. Celebration Park: Starting to see more activity in the East Pond with catches of Catfish, Bluegill, and Sunfish. Action is slow but strikes and hook-ups can be had. Catfish are ranging from 6" to 18" in size. Bluegill and Sunfish are small - 3" in size. As the weather warms, things will pick-up. Allen Station Dam: Creek is murky from the recent rain. Have not observed Sunfish and Bluegill as of yet. The trio of Catfish in the silting basin are gone as well. Will continue to keep an eye out for the Sunfish and Bluegill. Out of the City Of Allen: Denison Dam: Striper action is consistent with the generator schedule. Wait till the generators are running, then hit them with Rattle-Traps and other lures that imitate Shad. Should get some strikes and hook-ups. Also, if you plan to wade the river, make sure you have an Oklahoma Fishing License, else risk a fine. Oklahoma owns the river, so a non-resident Oklahoma License is required. FYI - Generation Schedule: Since fishing success at the tailrace is largely dependent on waterflow, below are links to the Generation Schedule and the Real Time Hydropower Release at Denison Dam. The Generation Schedule is not always accurate and changes based on power demands from Utilities. Use it for checking the generation pattern but keep in mind that it can be modified without notice. Generation Schedule: http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/power/hydropower.html The Real Time Hydropower Release provides ready updates on the status of waterflow at Denison Dam. Use it to confirm water is or is not flowing at the tailrace. Real Time Hydropower Release: http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/ops_hydropower/hydromainpage.html If you plan to wade the river, make sure you have an Oklahoma Fishing License, else risk a fine. Oklahoma owns the river, so a non-resident Oklahoma License is required. All for now. Good luck and good fishing! PS: Audio Fishing Report for today was posted; refer to the sidebar.

Fished Celebration Park North Pond using White-Winged Nymph, Green Glo-Bug, Black Foam Rubber Spider, and Brown Dryfly.  Caught various Sunfish and a Bluegill near the lighted section of the picnic area.  Nothing big; still fun.
