Fished the Point for White Bass!

Kayak fished the point by the free boat ramp south of Lavonia Park.  Trolled tandem Crappie Jigs - one Red/White and one Chartreuse.  Caught twenty White Bass, missed others, and kept five that were Keepers.  Largest went 14" in size.  Steady action with most striking while making a wide slow turn when changing direction.  Fun stuff and even gotta a workout in!

More Kayak Fishing at Clear Lake Park!

Returned to Clear Lake Park on Lake Lavon.  Fished with the kayak and trolled crappie jigs. Managed three undersized White Bass; no Keepers this round.  Did get a few hard strikes but could not set the hook in time.  Till next time... Good Luck and Good Fishing!

Windy Day But Did Catch a Few!

Was busy doing some "honey do's " Saturday.  Did have an opportunity to fish later on.  Was debating about taking the kayak or using surfcasting gear to fish Clear Lake Park on Lake Lavon.

Wind was picking up so kayak fishing may have been tough.  In the end, went with the kayak... figured the "Island" would provide enough protection so we could fish.

It didn't.... regardless, launched the kayak and fished the area from boat ramp to boat ramp without a strike.  Then, decided on a workout and headed to the leeward side of the "Island". Still no bites but the anchored boats and music playing made for a party-like atmosphere.

On the way back to the boat ramp, slow-trolled the Crappie Jig we by letting the wind drift the kayak.  Wind was pushing in the right direction but did not get a strike.

Was getting ready to call it a trip when a fish struck the jig while we were pulling the kayak ashore.  The kayak was beached and the line was still trailing behind; waves and wind were causing it to bounce up and down.  Reeled the line in; it was a Gaspergou.

Could not leave the fishing while they were biting.  So, launched the kayak again and started working the bottom by paddling upwind to setup for a drift, then slowed the kayak where the jig would bounce along the bottom.

When setup correctly the rod tip would shake and bounce in unison with the jig bouncing along the bottom. Ended up catching three more Gaspergou.  Also, caught a White Bass while paddling upwind but had to release it as it was not a keeper.

Fun stuff... especially when you accidentally find a pattern that works!

More Fun Fishing Clear Lake Park

Took the kayaks Friday and trolled jigs round Clear Lake Park on Lake Lavon.  Slower action compared to the other day we kayak fished.  Managed undersized White Bass on Red/White Crappie Jigs.  Fun stuff!

Clear Lake Park This Round

Fished Clear Lake Park on Lavon yesterday.  Brought the kayaks and trolled a White Roadrunner and a Red/White Crappie Jig.  Caught and released 30+ fish - all were undersized White Bass except for one Yellow Bass.  Been a while since we been to Clear Lake Park; will likely be back again!

More Kayak Fishing at Ticky Creek!

Went back for more kayak fishing at Ticky Creek; more White Bass but no Keepers this time.  Did get a few action shots of the pole bending when the fish struck while trolling!  Fun stuff!

Three Keepers at Ticky Creek This Time!

Made it back to Ticky Creek and took the kayaks and fished the Point.  Caught White Bass with three Keepers this time!  Also, saw a lot of insects floating on the surface.  Noticed little Catfish feeding on them.  Cool stuff!

Only Two Today....

Fished Ticky Creek again.  Put out jug lines and baited with Chicken Livers.  Seemed like a good idea but then we had to call it quits early when the wind picked up.  Did catch and release two fish - a White Bass and a Largemouth Bass.  Both were little... scrappy but little fighters!

Only One This Time

Went to Brockdale Park this evening.  Windy conditions made for some tough paddling.  Did manage to catch one White Bass.  Other than that, got a decent workout this round paddling the  kayak!

Field Team's Kayak Jug Line Setup

Raining today with some thunder and lightning thrown in.  Decided to update our "Jug Line Fishing" article with illustrations of our Kayak Jug Line Setup.  We like it because its scaled down version provides some flexibility in the limited space of our kayaks, and we also like the ability to position the Float and Hooks as conditions warrant.

Check out the article and do give our setup a try.  If it works or you make modifications, or you get a Bruiser, send us comments!

Jug Lining a Bust....

Went jug lining at the local lake.  Used the Kayak instead of the Jon Boat.  Things started out well but the wind kicked up and a rain storm hit, so had to call it quits early.  Better luck next round!

Another Go at Kayak Fishing Brockdale Park

Made a run to Brockdale Park to Kayak Fish for White Bass.  Met up with TFF's Mikes14 and worked the Point trolling Crappie Jigs and Roadrunners.  Lots of baitfish in the area, and a few fish lurking over the brushline, but overall the action was slow.  Regardless, had fun catching and releasing a few White Bass as well as putting a nice sized Crappie on the stringer!

More White Bass at Brockdale Park

Returned to Brockdale Park for more kayak fishing for White Bass.  Mostly undersized fish but did catch one Keeper.  Caught them on a White Marabou Roadrunner.  Slow but steady action with a lot of wind.  Did see a few boils of fish feeding on shad as it got later in the day.

Rigged a Fish Finder to the Kayak, Made a Difference!

Decided to rig a fish finder to the kayak.  After some tinkering, made a power source that uses eight AA Batteries for power.  Then, used some scrap PVC to make a transducer mount.  Went to the Brockdale Park this evening to try it out. Soon after launching was able to locate a few schools of fish and an underwater brush line that held fish!  Caught mainly undersized White Bass and a few Yellow Bass on a White Marabou Roadrunner.  Then, had a Bruiser take the Roadrunner but quickly snapped the line.  Switched to a White Crappie Jig and caught a White Bass before calling it quits.  Fun stuff, even better that the wind was negligible!

Windy Day at Ticky Creek

Fished Ticky Creek this morning.  Decided to use the Sit Inside Kayak this round; really like the Heritage Angler.  Just have not used it in awhile.  Windy day and only one undersized White Bass!  Better luck next time.  Made a short video clip and posted it on COAF Field Team's Facebook page.

Kayak Fishing the Point at Brockdale Park

Short video clip of a quick trip to Brockdale Park.  Was going for White Bass; managed two undersized ones.  Caught them on a Chartreuse Crappie Jig trolled on a flatline.  Bite was sloowwww.  Will be back again.  Hope the White Bass will be too!

Kayak Fishing Ticky Creek

Wind let up today.  Decided to fish Lake Lavon with the Kayak.  Put in at Ticky Creek Park and made for the point.  Then, found out that we left the rod and reel at home.  Made do with a handline and a Roadrunner Jig.  Good thing the tackle box stays with the kayak!  Caught several White Bass with one Keeper.  Remainder did not meet the legal length requirement so were let go.

Kayak Fishing at Lake Lavon Was Tough Today.

Went kayak fishing at Lake Lavon but it was tough to find a place to launch.  Since Brockdale and Highland Park have been closed for awhile, we have been going to Ticky Creek.  Today, found out it was closed.  Ended up launching from Avalon Park.  Lake level is low but did manage to hook a little Bass that was lost while trying to bring it into the kayak.  Other than that, had a few more strikes trolling a jig but no hook ups.  Really hoping rains come soon.

Emotion Spitfire Kayak Makes Good With Kayak Fishing At Lake Lavon....

Been a bear lately with our day jobs, especially with the new kayak sitting in the garage instead of on the water!  Finally found a break in the schedule and took it out to Lake Lavon.  Had not been to the Lake lately... soon found that the ramps at Brockdale, Highland Park, and Bratonia were closed.  Luckily, Ticky Creek remains open and was able to launch the kayak.

Was easy to launch the little 8' kayak.  Light to carry, stable on the water, and easy to paddle.  Was not a problem trolling a Yellow Crappie Jig on a flatline.  Ended up catching three little White Bass.  Not bad for the Spitfire's first fishing trip!
