Our Favorite Kayak Fishing Sandals - Columbia Ridgeway! #kayaking #columbia #kayakfishing

Been missing the kayaking sandals but finally found the replacement pair – Columbia’s Ridgeway!

Water shoes were not cutting it; this will be our fourth pair of Columbia Sandals – First two were Santiams (I think), third one was the Riptide, and this one is a Ridgeway.

Columbia is our favorite for fishing shirts and kayaking sandals…. will see how the Ridgeway works out this season and on!

In the past, the sandals stay secure, can get wet but not slippery, and makes a cool tan line when you take them off!

Do stay tuned for more kayak fishing videos… and be on the lookout for the Kayak Fishing Sandals!

Kayak Fishing Lavon - Back Paddling Technique Gets One

Made it to Lavon for a chance at an evening round of kayak fishing the point at Brockdale Park. Another hot day but luckily not too hot to stop us from fishing!

Arrived at the boat ramp with only one other boat at the park. Quick launch and was on the lake trolling shortly after.

Fished a couple of hours without a strike, then shifted to the back paddling technique where we paddle the kayak backwards, and let the slab and jig rig bounce bottom. Managed to avoid a strikeout by getting one Yellow Bass.

No worries… best thing about kayak fishing, can always get a workout in at least!

Posted video of the trip, and then added past video from a trip last year that shows more details on the back paddling technique. Do check it out!

Kayak Fishing at Lavon... #shad #kayaking

Short notice quick trip to Lake Lavon at Highland Park for a chance at catching a fish or two kayaking one of of the points.

Windy conditions and some waves to deal with, else no issues other than no fish on our hooks.

After fishing a double rig using shad for bait, switched to trolling a slab and jig rig. Neither had a bite, so headed back to the boat ramp.

Good thing we were able to catch some Shad else the trip would have been a strikeout!

No worries, one of the reasons why we like kayak fishing… if no fish, can at least get workout in!

Kayaking the Guadalupe #fishing #kayak #pelicankayaks

Had a fun Friday on the Guadalupe River kayaking and fishing. Water flow was slow; mainly paddled upstream and observed the “tube hatch” as we kayaked to the 3rd Crossing.

Did catch a couple of Bluegill and a little Bass. Caught one using a Kastmaster with its hooks removed and a trailing scud. Caught the other two using a Roostertail.

Although the fishing was slow, gotta a good workout in paddling upriver and downriver! Happy 4th of July!

Afternoon Kayak Fishing at Texoma

Saturday... headed to Texoma after the morning rain passed for a round of kayak fishing. Put in at Eisenhower State Park; worked a tandem Bucktail Jig and Clouser Minnow on a windy point. Managed six Stripers trolling the point. Fun stuff.

The Bucktail Jig had a White Fluke added; Clouser Minnow was fished "as is". Looked like the Stripers  wanted the Jig!

Wind was brisk and the water was rough at times; definitely glad to have the PFD on. Cool temps but not near as cold as last Saturday.

May need to give it another go on Sunday...!

Saturday Kayak Fishing at Texoma

Decided to give Texoma a try Saturday morning in hopes of Striped Bass. Cold temps, starting out at 47 degrees. Good thing the waders kept things warm and dry.

Put in at Lighthouse Marina; things started out slow with no strikes on a Rat-L-Trap or Tube Flies. Switched to a Blue/White Bucktail Jig and Fluke and started hooking up.

Steady action... despite missed hook sets and thrown hooks, was able to put eight on the stringer.  Largest went 26" in length! Fun stuff!

Texoma This Sunday Afternoon

Put in at Lighthouse Marina on Lake Texoma this afternoon. Had to play it by ear for a little while as the rains passed through. Once things cleared up a little, launched from the Personal Watercraft Boat Ramp. Nice looking sandy beach and a shallow "flats" like area that looked promising.

Trolled with a Jig and Fluke and hooked up with a Largemouth Bass. Kept at it with a couple missed strikes, and then switched to a Rat-L-Trap. A Smallmouth Bass went for the Rat-L-Trap, and then no more strikes. Finally, went with a Slab and Jig Rig and had a Striped Bass take the Slab!

So, ended the trip with three fish - a Largemouth Bass, a Smallmouth Bass, and a Striped Bass. All were small but going to count as a Texoma Slam(?)... :-)

Texoma at Eisenhower State Park This Round

Went Kayak Fishing yesterday for a chance at some Stripers. Launched at the boat ramp in Eisenhower State Park. Before launching though, stopped by the Marina Store and checked out the large Carp and Catfish that lurk nearby. Paid the $1 for the "fish food" and fed the fish. Bruisers are still there; unfortunately, they were the closest we came to a Bruiser this round.

Fished all day and saw lots of boaters, wind picked up later as well.  Worked the rocks along the shoreline and caught a 15" Smallmouth Bass after several hours without a strike.

Kept working the shoreline as well as deeper water without success for the remainder of the day. And then, while heading back to the boat ramp, notice fish were chasing the small minnows in the area. After a while casting to them, had a strike and a miss, and then short after the miss had a really skinny 18" Striper take the lure!

Had used Rat-T-Traps, Diving Crankbaits, Slabs and Crappie Jigs, and almost every lure in the tackle box. What finally worked... Blue/White Jigs that we bought from Dave's Ski and Tackle several years ago!

Overall, had a fun time. Sure beats work, and had another good workout. But, did see a couple of instances that reminded us to be careful on the water.

  • Someone was troubleshooting their boat; would not start. Was resting against the boat dock. Their kids were sitting in front of the boat on the dock. Engine started and was in gear. Boat went rammed the boat dock and nearly ran over one of the kids. Close call. Luckily, no one was hurt.
  • Jet Skier was on his jet ski towing a capsized jet ski. Not sure what happened but it looked like no one was hurt as well
Also, stopped by Denison Dam Tailrace to check out the water flow. Did not see fish, and noted the sulphur smell from the Lake turning over. Included some video in the clip below.

Till next time... Good Luck and Good Fishing!

Afternoon Round... Went Kayak Fishing

Decided to do some kayak fishing this afternoon. Opted for Collin Park Marina as we never been there before. Boat ramp was really busy and the parking area was packed.

Luckily, was able to use a parking area near the picnic/beach area. A short portage later, was in the water working the Tire Reef that surrounds the marina. Glad the kayak weighs only 38 pounds!

Fished the area for about two hours; action was slow with one missed strike and one little White Bass. Still had a fun time; even got a workout in!

Lake Texoma for Kayak Fishing This Round

Headed up the road to Lake Texoma. Launched our kayaks at Highpoint Marina. Caught a few small Stripers and Smallmouths; lost a few as well. Also, caught a large Gaspergou, too! All went for Rat-L-Traps (or a knock-off of a Rat-L-Trap we picked up from Academy). Windy at times and lots of boat traffic; still had some steady action. Need to come back sooner than later as we did lose several decent Stripers that threw the hook!

Windy and Waves This Round

Headed to Ticky Creek Park for more kayak fishing. Boat ramp was closed but not an issue with the kayak. Launched from the beach without an issue. Windy though and water was rough. Had a tough time hooking up. Did get a Yellow Bass and a White Bass after getting a good workout in! Both went for Crappie Jigs.

Kayaking for White Bass this Round

Hit Lake Lavon at Little Ridge Park this morning.  Took kayaks out this time and did some kayak trolling. Managed to catch a few White Bass.  Only six were Keepers but still had a good time and a good workout!

Used a Red and White Tube Fishing Fly, a Red and Chartreuse Crappie Jig, and a Chartreuse Slab.  Caught most on the Red and White Tube Fishing Fly!

Only One Keeper This Morning!

Fished Clear Lake this morning with the kayak.  Tried drifting for Catfish with Shad; had two nibbles but no hook ups.  Switched to a Slab and Jig Rig and had one take but failed to set the hook well.

Kept at it; a White Bass struck but was not a Keeper. Went another 30"; another struck.  It was a Keeper.  Only two White Bass this round with only one Keeper. Still a fun time!

Kayak Trolling This Morning!

Went kayak fishing this morning.  Was planning to launch from the free boat ramp nearest the dam.  Road was closed. Luckily, had the COE Annual Pass, so went to Lavonia Park and put in from the Day Use Area.

Paddled out to the Point we like to fish and began working the area... trolling a Slab and Crappie Jig Rig as well as casting to boils!

Caught two Yellow Bass and a number of White Bass with three Keepers.  Fish for Dinner tonight!

Another Go at the Power Plant

Decided to fish the Power Plant this evening.  Was not as good as yesterday morning. Worked the discharge area without a strike.  After a while, decided to get a workout and trolled the area.  Got a decent workout but only had one fish strike.  Was not a Keeper but at least we did not strike out!

Power Plant This Round

Fished the Power Plant this round by Little Ridge Park on Lake Lavon; no Keepers but did get a few to take a Slab or a Crappier Jig!  Also, saw others doing well with fish caught on almost every cast!  Next round, going to bring an anchor and setup closer but well outside the restricted area.

Clear Lake Yesterday and then Today

Checked out Clear Lake Park Wednesday evening to test the fish finder.  Was able to get an understanding of the area's water depth; also caught several undersized White Bass.  And then, checked it out again Thursday morning.  Used a short cut to get to the South side; worked the area and managed to get two Keepers!  This round went with a Slab and Crappie Jig Rig. Fish were lurking well below the surface.

Windy Morning... Caught Two Gaspergou.

Windy morning; decided to try Ticky Creek.  Fished the leeward side and started working the area.  Slower action but did manage two Gaspergou using a Tandem Rig - White Roadrunner and Chartreuse Crappie Jig.  No video; just a picture.
