Senkos Keep Working!

Big thunderstorm rolled through this morning.  Luckily, it passed through and things cleared up.  Decided to fish the pond by In-N-Out Burger.  Used Senkos and Ultralight Gear to catch seven Bass.  Then, went on to Glendover Pond and caught two more.  Today's catch was nine Bass.  All were caught on Senkos.  Did have one young fisherman show us his catch.  A Bass that went for a live fingerling Bluegill.  Good to see others catching them!

PS:  Fished the evening bite.  Checked out Auburn Springs with no bites; stopped at Bethany and caught three Bass.  Used Senkos again but went with Baitcasting Gear this time.

More Bass On Senkos at Bethany!

Fished Bethany this evening.  Went with Senkos and Ultralight Gear.  After missing the first strike, was able to catch nine Bass.  Bass were just barely striking the worm. Ultralight helped feel the bite.  Also, watching the line go slack, tighten, or twitch helped timing the hook set.  Fun stuff!

One Bluegill and Two Bass This Round

Fished Auburn Springs this evening.  Cold front rolled in the other day and dropped temps.  Was having fun catching Bass on Senkos.  Decided to try an inline spinner this time.  Managed to catch a Bluegill and two Bass fishing a Rooster Tail.  Largest fish was a Bass that went almost 14" in size.  Fun stuff!

Only One Fish This Round... But It Was a Bruiser!

Cold front rolled in and the wind was rough.  Decided to check out the East Pond at Celebration Park for a chance at a Catfish.  Used Bread for bait and Ultralight Gear; only caught one this round.  But, it was a Bruiser Catfish that went 22.5" in size!  Fun stuff!

More Inline Spinners But... Bass On Their Beds!

Returned to Bethany with inline spinners.  But, could see Bass on their beds.  Had to adjust the retrieve and drag the spinner slow across the bed to get the first one to strike.  Then, switched back to a steady retrieve and caught some little scrappy ones.  Going to switch lures to adjust to the pattern change!

More Inline Spinners at Bethany

Fished the evening bite yesterday.  Caught (lost count but we think) eight Bass.  No Bruisers but still a lot of fun on ultralight gear.  Lost several of our homemade inline spinner to snags; tied on a Rooster Tail and caught Bass; then lost it... tied on another one and caught Bass.  Fun stuff!

Headed to Plano East Senior High School's pond this morning.  Fished the Purple Wooley Rooster Martin inline spinner.

Caught five Bass at the High School, then stopped by Bethany Lakes and caught three more Bass!

Fun stuff... most were caught near the bank; all were caught using Ultralight Gear on 4lbs test.  Largest went 15.5" in size!

Glad to have got a round in before the rain arrived; now we will have to play it by ear as the next cold front arrives.  Anticipate the pattern will changes again!

More Bass at Bethany

Squeezed in a round at Bethany this evening.  Overcast and some rain and wind.  Regardless, Bass were active; hitting the Purple Wooley Rooster Martin!  Caught several, lost one, and missed some strikes as well.  Fun stuff!

Inline Spinners Again This Round

Went back to Bethany Lakes and fished inline spinners again. Colder than yesterday with the front that came in; glad that the wind calmed down.  Managed to catch four Bass!

Thirteen Bass and Two Bluegill on Rooster Tails, then Three Catfish on Cheerios!

Fished Bethany this evening.  Caught thirteen Bass (no Bruisers) and two Bluegill using Rooster Tails and Ultralight Gear.  Then, as it got dark, noticed activity in the shallows while walking back to the car.  Switched to bait and freelined Cheerios;  ended up catching three decent Catfish.  Had to call it quits but left them biting.  Catfish ranged from 18" to 20"+!  Fun stuff!

Wooley Rooster Martin Gets a Mixed Bag This Morning!

Returned to Plano East Senior High School this morning in hopes of hooking up with at least one Bruiser that we lost yesterday.  Caught one Bruiser Bass that went 16.5". Then, caught a mix of Sunfish, Bluegill, and a little Catfish, and then hooked a Bruiser Catfish that went 17"! Caught one more little Bass before deciding to try another location.

Tried the feeder creek at Harrington Park in Plano and caught Sunfish, Bluegill, and Longear.  Did sight cast to several Carp lurking in the area but  none wanted the spinner.

Went on to Shawnee Park in Plano and struck out!  Tough place to fish with the "Buffer Zone" hampering access from the bank.

Finally closed out the morning outing with a stop at the feeder creek to Shadow Lakes in Allen. Caught a Bluegill and then had several missed strikes from more Bluegill.

PS:  Quick trip to Bethany this evening gets two more fish - a little Bass and a Bluegill.

Break in the Rain; Went Fishing

Rain was pouring this morning.  But, there was a break in the rain.  Long enough for a quick trip to Bethany,... so went fishing.  Fished for about 30" using Ultralight Spinning Gear and an Orange Rooster Tail. Caught four Bass of which two measured 14" in size.  Bite was still on when the rain started up again.  Decided to dry out and head for some coffee and doughnuts.

More Fun Fishing an Ultralight and Roostertails

Rain stopped after dinner; decided to rig up the Ultralight with a White Roostertail and head to Bethany.  Caught six Bass working the banks.  Most were caught within 5 feet of the shore.  Even better, water level is up so spent more time fishing than clearing the lure of algae!

Yellow Rooster Tail Working At Bethany

Fished Bethany this evening.  Used Ultralight Gear and a Yellow Rooster Tail and worked the shoreline.  Caught six Bass and lost a lot more.  Looks like a steady retrieve that places the lure just below the water's surface was the key today.  To bad things will change with tomorrow's cold front rolling in.

"River Why" Tip Comes Through!

Went back to Kroger Park this afternoon for a go at the Catfish.  Brought Ultralight Gear and Bread for bait.  Unfortunately, struck out miserably.  Not a bite at all.

Did see Bluegill and Bass working the shallows. A quick check of the gear on hand... an Ultralight Spinning Rod/Reel, Bread, Hooks, and an Olive Wooley Bugger found on the floorboard of the truck.

Taking a tip from the movie "River Why", wrapped the Olive Wooley Bugger with Bread (mud was used in the movie) and casted the fly using the Ultralight Gear.  Shortly after casting the Wooley Bugger, the Bread broke apart and was able to fish the fly!

Caught one Bass and a Bluegill, hooked but lost two other Bass.  Not a bad outing saved by a piece of Bread!

Morning Outing Was Tough With Windy Conditions...

Wind made it rough to fish Bethany this morning.  Did catch a little Bluegill on a Wooley Bugger using the Tenkara Rod.  Switched to Ultralight Gear and Rooster Tails.  Caught three little Bass and lost two others while reeling them in.  No plans to fish this evening though... headed to Celebration Park to watch the Fireworks!

Morning Quick Trip Using The Rooster Tail...

After a fun time catching them on the Hula Popper last night, decided to check if the Ultralight Gear and Rooster Tail combination would still produce at Bethany.  Went this morning and confirmed it does, catching several Bass and missing a few more.  Lotta fun but did notice that the water level is dropping.  We do need some rain!

Rooster Tail Works Again!

Evening trip to Bethany to closeout this TGIF! Caught mainly Bass but did get a nice Catfish that went well over 16" in length (estimate about 19"; ruler in the photo is 16" long). Funny thing... caught it on the same Rooster Tail we used earlier today - Chartreuse Rooster Tail. Given the Catfish meets the minimum 15" to post on 2011's COAF Fishing Leader Board, submitted a picture to the Board.

Bethany At Lunch Today

Fished Bethany at lunch time today!  Really hot weather, glad the Bass were cooperating.  Caught four but only able to take a picture of three.  One flopped back in the water soon after landing it.  Used a different Ultralight Rod - same one used for Trout Fishing, just changed out the line with Spiderwire and then used a Rooster Tail that had a chartreuse blade.

Could Not Stay Away From Fishing

Could not stay away from fishing; went back to Bethany Lakes this evening.  Good thing because the fish were cooperating.  Ultralight Gear and Jigs continued to work.  Even caught a little Crappie!
