Field Team Plus One... Limits Out At Waterloo!

Was able to breakaway from the Holiday Gathering and go back to Waterloo for more Trout.  Colder temps compared to the other day but action remained hot!

Field Team - NucLaroche and Fshng84, plus one of our Holiday Guests took three limits of Trout making for a hearty breakfast tomorrow morning!

Two Trout were caught flyfishing.  Used the same setup we use on the Blue River - Olive Wooley Bugger with a Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph.  Both Trout struck the Nymph in lieu of the Wooley Bugger.

All others were caught using Orange Powerbait.  Trout seemed to prefer Orange over Chartreuse today.  Good stuff, despite the cold!

PS:  Even had a Hawk checking us (or the fishing action) from the trees nearby.

Waterloo Continues to Produce Trout... Fishing Flies Are Working!

Fished Waterloo in Denison today for one last hurrah before personal commitments pull the Field Team away from fishing...! Good decision to go. Temps were warm and the action was hot. Had a great time catching them on Powerbait, Olive Wooley Buggers, and Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymphs!

Trout were readily taking Powerbait Trout Nuggets in Chartreuse and Trout Bait in Orange. Action on fishing flies was slower but steady with strikes coming on slow to no retrieves! Just let the fishing fly slowly sink and prepare for the strike!

Another good day of fishing was had by the Field Team!

Cooked Trout, More Trout At Waterloo, and Restocked Powerbait!

Cooked yesterday's catch for dinner... a great tasting meal was enjoyed.  Decided to return to Waterloo Park Pond in the morning to go for another limit!  Good decision....

Fast action on Powerbait Trout Nuggets; fishing buddy and I limited out in about 40" with five Trout each. Would have been quicker but wanted to catch the last one using flyfishing gear which took about 15" to catch it.

Trout were striking the fishing fly rig - a Wooley Bugger with a Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph trailer, they just were not taking the fly tending more to tapping it lightly. Finally managed to hook one on a slowwwwwwww retrieve.

On the way back home, stopped at Gander Mountain in Sherman and restocked on Powerbait - Trout Bait, Trout Worms, and Glitter Trout Bait, and Size 12 and 14 Hooks! PS: Shelves were fully stocked with a wide selection of Powerbaits!

Field Team Limited Out... Trout Meet Their Waterloo at Waterloo (Denison)

Field Team limited out this afternoon at Waterloo Park in Denison! Took less than 45" to catch them. Action was fast and steady. Caught all on Pink Powerbait. Fishing Buddy fished with light Spinning Gear; opted to try the Bamboo Stake Rod. Lotta fun... and good eating, too!

Field Team Reports Two Trout Limits at Waterloo!

Fished Waterloo Pond this morning in Denison. Had a slow start due to the "Spring forward" time change delayed us from getting on the road.  Seemed to carryover to the fishing; was a slow start with a few light nibbles the first hour.

Finally, had a break when my fishing buddy Getx13 decided to pull the flyrod out.  Caught two Trout using the Crappie Jig Variant in two casts.  Things slowed down again, and then the bite was on with 8 Trout caught using Orange Powerbait in about 45"!  Should have been quicker but had a number of missed hooksets!

Failed to measure the Trout but submitted pictures to the One Fishing Fly Challenge to show the fishing flies versatility - Bass, Sunfish, Bluegill, and now Trout taken with the fishing fly!

Trout Limits at Waterloo; Field Team's First Limit for 2010!

Ran up to Denison Dam to scout out the Striped Bass action this afternoon. Fished without success for about 2 hours, then called it quits. Shifted gears from Striped Bass to Trout and fished Waterloo Park Pond. Limited out in about 30" using Orange Powerbait. Pond was frozen save for the area near the fountain. Regardless, the Trout were active and hungry. Not a bad outing with the first Trout Limit taken by the Field Team in 2010!

Limits At Waterloo, Tasty Meal Back Home!

Waterloo Park in Denison continues to produce with limits being taken by a number of fishermen. Chartreuse and Orange Powerbaits worked well today. Trout were hitting almost immediately after casting. Two of us limited out in just over an hour with a lot more misses than hook-ups. Cleaned and prepared for the table, decided to broil the Trout instead of frying them. Very tasty meal!

Trout Limits at Waterloo in Denison!

Checked out Waterloo Park in Denison and two of us limited out on Trout using Chartreuse Powerbait. Others were also limiting out using Orange as well as Pink Powerbait. Did get a few nibbles on Bread, else it was all Powerbait.

Fishing buddy and I took about two hours to catch them with many missed strikes and stolen baits.  However, took much less time to cook and eat them!

On the way back home, stopped by Academy in McKinney to restock on Powerbait. Been out of stock at Academy in Plano, Dallas, and Denison. Lucked out in McKinney with Powerbait in Orange Trout Bait and Chartreuse Trout Nuggets!

Another Trip to Waterloo.

Another trip to Waterloo Park Pond in Denison this morning. Fishing buddy and I lucked out with limits of 5 Trout each using a Carolina Rigged Corn set-up again. Largest went about 11" in size. Tried flyfishing briefly when we noticed a lot of surface activity. Did not get any strikes, so we went back to bait. Checked stomach contents; most were empty but a few had remnants of Powerbait it Chartreuse and Pink. Yesterday's catch had mostly Corn with some Powerbait Nuggets in Chartreuse and Orange. Opted to stay with Corn, cheaper and still getting limits and/or consistent strikes. Today's Catch Click-on DFW Fishing News for more fishing information in the Metroplex area. January 11, 2009 - Limited Out at Waterloo

Headed out early this morning when temperatures were well below freezing. Arrived at Waterloo around 8AM and began fishing the small pond. See Picture for reference. Mapboard at Waterloo: Had several nibbles on Orange Powerbait, and then caught a Trout. Bite was slow but steady; just could not hook them solidly. Shortly after 9AM, nothing hit for 2+ hours. Was about to call it a day when the Trout started biting again around 11AM. Still was hit or miss on Orange Powerbait. Switched over to Corn and finally landed one around 11:30AM. Limited out with a total of five just short of Noon. A check of stomach contents showed the following: 2 with Corn, 1 with Corn/Pink Powerbait, 1 with Corn/Chartruese Powerbait, and 1 empty. Todays Catch:

Denison Waterloo Park Pond: December 24, 2007

After fishing Denison Dam tailrace, decided to try Waterloo Park Pond in the city of Denison.

Caught three trout on flyfishing gear. All were caught using a Bead Head Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph. Had about ten more strikes but failed to set the hook - operator error or my aging reflexes.

Trout were 8"to 8.5" and caught while fishing slowly along the bottom.

Tried other fishing flies without success. However, observed several fishermen limit out using Salmon Eggs (Red), Corn, and Velveeta Cheese with Garlic.

Examined the trouts' contents. Identified Corn, PowerBait in White and Chartreuse, and pieces of Salmon Egg (Red). Also, noted one with a mushy substance that may be the Velveeta. See picture below.

Note: The PowerBait in White had a small #10 Salmon Egg Hook.
