More Kayak Fishing at Ticky Creek!

Went back for more kayak fishing at Ticky Creek; more White Bass but no Keepers this time.  Did get a few action shots of the pole bending when the fish struck while trolling!  Fun stuff!

Three Keepers at Ticky Creek This Time!

Made it back to Ticky Creek and took the kayaks and fished the Point.  Caught White Bass with three Keepers this time!  Also, saw a lot of insects floating on the surface.  Noticed little Catfish feeding on them.  Cool stuff!

Back to Ticky Creek!

Took the Kayaks out to Ticky Creek this round.  Really nice day with minimal winds, making for an easy paddle.  Trolled with Crappie Jigs.  Managed to catch three White Bass; only one was a Keeper though.  Other two were undersized.  Fun stuff!

Surfcasting without the Surf at Ticky Creek!

Decided to checkout Lake Lavon at Ticky Creek.  Brought surfcasting gear and used an old Newell Reel that had been gathering dust for a while.  Got some good casting practice in, backlashes and all.  Even managed to get a couple of White Bass to strike!  Fun stuff!

Mixed Bag This Time

Cold front dropped temps and changed the pattern.  But, things started warming up a little.  Tried the Lefty Deceiver and had a few hits but nothing solid.  Switched to a White Damsel Fly and fished it slow.  Managed to catch a Bass, and then a White Bass!  White Bass went 14.5" in length and put up a nice fight. Then, noticed fish feeding on the surface.  Switched to a Dry Fly and caught Bluegill, Shellcracker, and a Bass!  One Shellcracker went 8" in length.  Fun stuff!

White Bass Spawning Run... Liked These Videos from a Local Fishing Guide!

Cold front arrived and has the Team waiting it out for warmer temps.  Till then, been surfing the net and came across two videos we liked from a local fishing guide - Carey Thorn.  It's about the White Bass spawning run that occurs in area creeks each year!

Bite Was On After Dark at Bethany

Fished Bethany this evening.  Was a little bit cold but luckily the Bass were going for the Green Grasshopper Variant.  Caught three Bass; no Bruisers but was still fun.  Decided to keep fishing after dark as something was feeding on the surface.  Turned out to be Bluegill and a surprise - a White Bass!  Lotta fun... Going to play tomorrow by ear; likely will checkout the Trout at Frisco Commons tomorrow!

Bethany This Round - 3 Bass, 1 White Bass, and a Catfish

Went back out to fish this Thanksgiving!.  Went to Bethany this time; had fun earlier this morning catching Bass at Plano East Senior High School. Hoping for more fun - caught three Bass, one White Bass, and a Catfish on a Rip and Rap Rapala.  Really like crankbaits this time of year; less vegetation to foul hooks and can cover more area quickly when short on time!

Fished a Different Point This Round....

Fished the area south of Lavonia Park to try for White Bass.  Very promising area per reports from TFF's TarponFly.  Brought the Carp Rod that we like to use for long distance surfcasting.  Also, brought Slabs and Crappie Jigs as suggested.

After walking from the parking area to the point near the Dam, noticed a lot of fish activity on the surface (note: the walk was muddy from yesterday's rain; we found it easier to wade the shoreline at times).

Casted for distance and had a few short strikes before finally hooking into one... a Largemouth Bass.  Kept at it some more and hooked a Yellow Bass. Then, a few boats passed through the area, so the bite was off for a few.  Then, started getting strikes again after things settled down.

More missed strikes but did get a Keeper White Bass that struck the Slab! Fun stuff... will need to come back and bring the Kayak next round.  Perfect area for some trolling!

Only Two Today....

Fished Ticky Creek again.  Put out jug lines and baited with Chicken Livers.  Seemed like a good idea but then we had to call it quits early when the wind picked up.  Did catch and release two fish - a White Bass and a Largemouth Bass.  Both were little... scrappy but little fighters!

Only One This Time

Went to Brockdale Park this evening.  Windy conditions made for some tough paddling.  Did manage to catch one White Bass.  Other than that, got a decent workout this round paddling the  kayak!

Fishing at Ticky Creek, Again!

Fished Ticky Creek again.  Brought Jug Lines and an Ultralight Rod and Reel.  Was hoping for Catfish, ended up catching and releasing a little Largemouth Bass and three White Bass.  Only one White Bass was caught on a Jug Line; remainder were all caught casting a Roadrunner Jig.

Only Two This Round....

Went back to the Point at Ticky Creek (Lake Lavon).  Windy conditions but still fun casting for distance.  Managed only two this round - undersized White Bass.  No Keepers today!  Continued to use the Sinker and Jig Rig and a Carp Rod.   Really liking the distance we get using this setup.

Only One White Bass This Time

Ran up the road to a Ticky Creek Park on Lake Lavon.  Short on time but not enthusiasm, brought a Carp Rod and used it to "surf cast" from the lake's shore.  When the White Bass are active, can really have fun catching them on a Float and Jig Rig.  In today's case, only caught one White Bass.  So, it's a short video this time!

Another Go at Kayak Fishing Brockdale Park

Made a run to Brockdale Park to Kayak Fish for White Bass.  Met up with TFF's Mikes14 and worked the Point trolling Crappie Jigs and Roadrunners.  Lots of baitfish in the area, and a few fish lurking over the brushline, but overall the action was slow.  Regardless, had fun catching and releasing a few White Bass as well as putting a nice sized Crappie on the stringer!

Rigged a Fish Finder to the Kayak, Made a Difference!

Decided to rig a fish finder to the kayak.  After some tinkering, made a power source that uses eight AA Batteries for power.  Then, used some scrap PVC to make a transducer mount.  Went to the Brockdale Park this evening to try it out. Soon after launching was able to locate a few schools of fish and an underwater brush line that held fish!  Caught mainly undersized White Bass and a few Yellow Bass on a White Marabou Roadrunner.  Then, had a Bruiser take the Roadrunner but quickly snapped the line.  Switched to a White Crappie Jig and caught a White Bass before calling it quits.  Fun stuff, even better that the wind was negligible!

Windy Day at Ticky Creek

Fished Ticky Creek this morning.  Decided to use the Sit Inside Kayak this round; really like the Heritage Angler.  Just have not used it in awhile.  Windy day and only one undersized White Bass!  Better luck next time.  Made a short video clip and posted it on COAF Field Team's Facebook page.

Kayak Fishing the Point at Brockdale Park

Short video clip of a quick trip to Brockdale Park.  Was going for White Bass; managed two undersized ones.  Caught them on a Chartreuse Crappie Jig trolled on a flatline.  Bite was sloowwww.  Will be back again.  Hope the White Bass will be too!

Kayak Fishing Ticky Creek

Wind let up today.  Decided to fish Lake Lavon with the Kayak.  Put in at Ticky Creek Park and made for the point.  Then, found out that we left the rod and reel at home.  Made do with a handline and a Roadrunner Jig.  Good thing the tackle box stays with the kayak!  Caught several White Bass with one Keeper.  Remainder did not meet the legal length requirement so were let go.

Emotion Spitfire Kayak Makes Good With Kayak Fishing At Lake Lavon....

Been a bear lately with our day jobs, especially with the new kayak sitting in the garage instead of on the water!  Finally found a break in the schedule and took it out to Lake Lavon.  Had not been to the Lake lately... soon found that the ramps at Brockdale, Highland Park, and Bratonia were closed.  Luckily, Ticky Creek remains open and was able to launch the kayak.

Was easy to launch the little 8' kayak.  Light to carry, stable on the water, and easy to paddle.  Was not a problem trolling a Yellow Crappie Jig on a flatline.  Ended up catching three little White Bass.  Not bad for the Spitfire's first fishing trip!
