Sampling of Fishing Flies

Below is a picture of two fishing flies.

The first one is a Clouser Minnow Variant that was used to catch the Bass caught earlier today and on Monday, 24 March.

The second one is a Mallard Flank Jig Fly created by a member of our field team. Have not fished it yet but will post results soonest.

Good luck and good fishing!

Bethany Lakes - March 26, 2008

Fished the Back Pond despite the strong wind. Caught two Bass and a Bluegill using flyfishing gear.

Caught an 8" Bass on a Pearl Chenille Weighted Bucktail Fly. Caught a 13" Bass and a 7" Bluegill on a Clouser Minnow variant in blue and white.

Lost others, just reflexes were too slow.

Sandy Lake Road Boat Ramp - March 25, 2008

Checked out the boat ramp located just off of Sandy Lake Road. Not sure its formal name but for reference, been calling it Sandy Lake Road Boat Ramp.

Water flow was strong and the water was murky. Cast several fishing flies with no strikes. However, it looks promising. Going to have to try fishing it again.

Little Elm Park - March 22, 2008

Fished Lake Lewisville at Little Elm Park in the late afternoon Saturday. Observed a fair amount of fishermen but only few catching Crappie using minnows from the bank. Fished the shallows near the flooded treeline but was not able to get a strike. Crappie were chasing baitfish occasionally; just could not get them interested. Better luck next time. Bethany Lakes - March 20, 2008

Fished the Back Pond in the late evening for another try at Bass. Using flyfishing gear and a Foam Rubber Spider, was able to catch a few Bluegill. Fish were about 5" to 6" in size.

No luck on Bass. Saw several nice looking whirls in the water that were likely Bass. However, was not able to get a strike. Better luck next time!

Caught several small Bluegill/Sunfish. Nothing more than 4" in size. All were caught shallow and near the bank/trees.

Used flyfishing gear and a size 14 Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph.

Bethany Lakes - March 19, 2008

Fished the Back Pond and caught Bluegill using a Brown Dryfly and a Foam Rubber Spider. Started out slow with no strikes for the first hour.

Did see small Bass following fishing flies. Changed from a Clouser Minnow, Purple Zonker, and then a Black Zonker. No hook-ups.

Switched to the Brown Dryfly to catch a few Bluegill. This worked as the Bluegill fed in the shallows. Then, changed to the Foam Rubber Spider when the fish started hitting on the surface. Caught more Bluegill.

As it got dark, did have a Bass strike the Foam Rubber Spider but failed to set the hook.

Nice evening with much calmer wind than earlier in the day.

Foam Rubber Spiders

A lot of rain hit the area recently. Decided to take advantage of the break and tied a few fishing flies last night - Foam Rubber Spiders. Will post pictures of fish caught with them once things dry out. Good luck and good fishing!

PS: Checked out Celebration Park's North and East Ponds at lunch today. Both overflowed their banks and were murky (brownish haze in the water). Suggest waiting to fish at least until the wind calms down.
