Bethany Lakes - April 5, 2008 (AM)

Fished Bethany Lakes' Back Pond and Feeder Creek. Caught Bluegill/Sunfish but no Bass on various fishing flies.

Bethany Ridge Park - April 4, 2008

Quick trip to Bethany Ridge Park. Fished the feeder creek to the pond. Caught a couple of Bluegill on a Midge Fly.

Bethany Ridge Park (Today) / Lake Ray Hubbard (Delayed Post)

Fished the pond at Bethany Ridge Park; caught Bluegill/Sunfish using the Mallard Flank Jig Fly and a Midge pattern tied with orange floss.

Also, a delayed posting from a member of our Field Team - a Crappie caught at Lakeside Marina on Ray Hubbard jigging about 13'-14' deep.

April 2008 eNewsletter

For easier reading, the ads posted on the right frame of the eNewsletter can be closed by clicking on the Tab in the ads section. Also, checked out Allen Station Dam this evening. No fish activity in the lower creek, silting basin, and upper creek. Suggest fishing Bethany Lakes and Shadow Lakes for Bass. Suggest fishing Bethany Lakes, Celebration Park, and Bethany Ridge Park for Bluegill and Sunfish. For Bass, a Blacknosed Dace Streamer and Clouser Minnows in blue and white have been consistent artificials. For Bluegill/Sunfish, Foam Rubber Spiders or a Brown Dry Fly have been taking them on the surface. Below the surface, a Royal Coachman Wet Fly and a Mallard Flank Jig Fly, a new pattern we have been testing, have been successful. Good luck and good fishing!

Shadow Lakes - March 31, 2008

Fished the South Pond at Shadow Lakes. Found a protected area from the wind and was able to catch 2 Bass flyfishing using a Blacknosed Dace. Fish were caught near the Cattails and in shallow water.

Had several more strikes but failed to set the hook in time. Switched to a Black Marabou Streamer and had more strikes but no hook ups.

Ran to Bethany Lakes to try the Black Marabou Streamer on Bass. No luck on Bass but did manage to land a small Sunfish on the Marabou Streamer.

Bethany Ridge Park - March 30, 2008

Fished Bethany Ridge Park, small pond by the Kroger on North Allen Heights. Caught Bluegill and Sunfish near the bridge that crosses the feeder creek to the pond and the feeder creek.

Mainly Bluegill/Sunfish in the area but did observe small Bass in the feeder creek.

Used flyfishing gear and several fishing flies fished wet - Mallard Flank Jig Fly Variant and a Royal Coachmen.

Later tied a few flies - 3 streamers and a dry fly. Will post results soonest.

Bethany Lakes - March 29, 2008

Fished the Back Pond in hopes of Bass. No luck. Observed several 3+ lbs Bass on their nests in the shallows. Looks as if the spawn is on; Bass appear uninterested in the fishing flies presented.

Did have fun catching Bluegill/Sunfish on various fishing flies. Fish pictured below were caught using a Clouser Minnow, Foam Rubber Spider, Black and Red Zonker, a Mallard Flank Jig Fly, and a Brown Dry Fly.

Fish were hitting on the surface as well as just below the surface.

Bethany Lakes - March 28, 2008 (PM)

Returned to Bethany Lakes to try the Mallard Flank Jig Fly this evening. A lot of short-strikes on Bass and Bluegill but did manage to land four Bluegill.

Bethany Lakes - March 28, 2008

Tested the Mallard Flank Jig Fly on the Bass at Bethany Lakes. Had a few short-strikes and no hook-ups.

Changed to the Clouser Minnow variant in blue and white and caught 2 Bass and 1 Bluegill. Had more short-strikes and missed strikes. Seems as if the Bass prefer the Clouser Minnow.

Going to keep trying out the Mallard Flank Jig Fly on other fishing areas and post results.

Celebration Park - March 27, 2008

Tested a new fishing fly this evening at the North Pond. Called it a Mallard Flank Jig Fly. Tied like a Hornberg to simulate a small baitfish.

Only fished for about 30" under the lights in the picnic area that overlook the North Pond but caught three Sunfish and lost several others.

Promising fishing fly; will try it out at Bethany Lakes for Bass in the next few days.
