Glendover Park Pond - April 11, 2008

Checked out Glendover Park Pond at lunch today.  Had trouble casting with the strong wind but did manage to get my fly in areas that looked productive.  Ended up striking out.  Second trip to the neighborhood park; have yet to produce a fish.  Will look for other fishing areas and pass this one up for now.  Good luck and good fishing!

Bethany Lakes - April 6, 2008

Due to the colder temperature this morning and strong wind, decided to fish the Outflow Creek below the Lower Pond, the Waterfall, and the Canal.

Using a Size 10, Prince Nymph was surprised in the numbers of fish in these locations and, in two cases, their size.

In the Outflow Creek, caught a 8.5" Bluegill in the shallow pool where the overflow for the Lower Pond is located.

In the Canal, caught an 11" Crappie on the Prince Nymph. Was mainly catching Bluegill and then got a nice hit and fight. Thought is was a big Bluegill at first but once landed, it was a Crappie.

In the Waterfall, fish were small and tended to nip at the fly. Did manage to land a small fingerling 3" Sunfish that made the size 10 nymph look huge.

Celebration Park - April 5, 2008 (PM)

Fished the East Pond to test a new fly pattern - Gangle-Leg Dry Fly. Tied using a parachute pattern that simulates the "mosquito" looking insect. Not sure what it is called but it look like a big mosquito, fortunately they don't bite like one.

Things started slow with no strikes on the Gangle-Leg. Switched to a Midge and caught a couple of Bluegill. Noticed surface activity along the shoreline, so switched back to the Gangle-Leg. Remainder of fish were caught on the Gangle-Leg!

April 2008 eNewsletter

FYI: The April 2008 eNewsletter has been posted. Refer to the Recommended Links in the sidebar or click-on April 2008 eNewsletter. For easier reading, the ads posted on the right frame of the eNewsletter can be closed by clicking on the Tab in the ads section. Also, checked out Allen Station Dam this evening. No fish activity in the lower creek, silting basin, and upper creek. Suggest fishing Bethany Lakes and Shadow Lakes for Bass. Suggest fishing Bethany Lakes, Celebration Park, and Bethany Ridge Park for Bluegill and Sunfish. For Bass, a Blacknosed Dace Streamer and Clouser Minnows in blue and white have been consistent artificials. For Bluegill/Sunfish, Foam Rubber Spiders or a Brown Dry Fly have been taking them on the surface. Below the surface, a Royal Coachman Wet Fly and a Mallard Flank Jig Fly, a new pattern we have been testing, have been successful. Good luck and good fishing!
