January 11, 2009 - Limited Out at Waterloo
Headed out early this morning when temperatures were well below freezing. Arrived at Waterloo around 8AM and began fishing the small pond. See Picture for reference.
Mapboard at Waterloo:
Had several nibbles on Orange Powerbait, and then caught a Trout. Bite was slow but steady; just could not hook them solidly. Shortly after 9AM, nothing hit for 2+ hours.
Was about to call it a day when the Trout started biting again around 11AM. Still was hit or miss on Orange Powerbait. Switched over to Corn and finally landed one around 11:30AM. Limited out with a total of five just short of Noon.
A check of stomach contents showed the following: 2 with Corn, 1 with Corn/Pink Powerbait, 1 with Corn/Chartruese Powerbait, and 1 empty.

Celebration Park - January 8, 2009
Warm day today; able to make a quick trip to Celebration Park's North Pond for Bluegill/Sunfish. Saw enough action to stay ready for light striking Trout. Cross our fingers we will be able to test our reflexes on Trout at other locations in the area in the near future.
Small but Scrappy.

No Trout. Just Sunfish
Cold and windy at Bethany Lakes this evening. Flyfished a Bead Head Nymph with no luck on Trout. Managed to hook and land Sunfish on a steady but slow retrieve. Fish were about 6" in size.

Summary of Lures/Bait Used for Trout (1/3/09)
An updated summary of lures/baits used for Trout is posted below. The items in blue font and underlined indicate updates from the last report. The results are based on recent postings and observations in the Field. The ">" indicates a post or an observation of the lure/bait being used.
Results indicate a slowdown at Bethany Lakes since its stocking on 12 December. Bob Jones remains promising with reports of larger sized Trout being stocked recently. Greenbriar continues to receive periodic stockings but action quickly tapers off; best to fish the location the day of stocking or soon after a stocking.
Overall, bait seems to be producing over lures. However, reports from the Guadalupe indicate fishing flies - Wooly Buggers and Prince Nymphs/Nymphs, Silver Super Dupers, and White Rooster Tails are getting strikes.
Good luck and good fishing!

No Trout Today.
Fished Bethany Creek Park Pond, located up the street from Bethany Lakes, to scout the waters given the warm temps today. Caught a small Bass and three Sunfish.
Went back to Bethany Lakes for Trout; no Trout today not even a nibble. Decided to work the feeder creek and caught Bluegill and Sunfish. Slow day for Trout but still enough action on other fish to keep interested.
FYI: Cold weather is arriving tomorrow, quick check online showed Waterloo Park in Denision is scheduled for a Trout stocking on 4 January.

Two Trout to Ring In The New Year.
Back to Bethany Lakes for Trout this evening. Had several missed strikes and light nibbles before dark, landed two Trout on Orange Powerbait, and then no action once dark settled in.
Fished on the bottom using a Carolina-Rig. Checked stomach contents, both were empty save for one kernel of corn in one Trout. Action has slowed but at least the Cormorant have not shown in force as of yet.

Zero Trout This Outing.
Fished Bethany Lakes this evening. Tried Bread and Powerbait without success. Ended with zero Trout this outing. Others noted taking Trout from the pier earlier in the day; however, evening did not produce. Hoping for better luck next trip.

Trout and a Bluegill!
Fished Bethany Lakes this evening. Caught one Trout and lost another using Bread for bait. Also, caught and released a large Bluegill that went just over 9" in size. Pretty nice fight on light tackle.

Fish were actively feeding on the surface ealry in the evening but was unable to get them to strike on the fly.
Switched to spinning gear and tried Gold and Copper Super Dupers without success. Then, tried Black, White, and Yellow Rooster Tails without luck.
Went to Powerbait and Bread. No strikes on Powerbait but did get them on Bread. FYI: Heard from others that Velveeta worked earlier in the day.
Today's Catch - Trout and a Bluegill.
None On A Super Duper.
Quick trip this morning to Bethany Lakes. Clear and cold with below freezing temperatures. Fished a Super Duper with no success. Moreover, did not observe others, who were using lures or bait, catching any Trout either. May need to try bait next time and hope for a bite or two. Else, shift to another location such as LLELA.

Misty and Cold, Only One Trout This Evening.
Made a last minute quick trip this evening to Bethany Lakes. Misty and cold, made worse by the slow fishing activity. Was able to land one Trout using Bread for Bait; stomach contents was nearly empty with only two kernels of Corn.
