Summary of Lures/Bait Used for Trout (1/16/09)

An updated summary of lures/baits used for Trout is posted below. The results are based on recent postings and observations in the Field. The ">" indicates a post or an observation of the lure/bait being used successfully.

Reports from the Field indicate Bob Jones Park (Grapevine), Waterloo Park (Denison), and River Park (Fort Worth) are good locations for Trout in the area.

Bethany Lakes (Allen) and Greenbriar (Fort Worth) have cooled off and action remains slow or non-existent.

Fort Richardson (Jacksboro) and Lake Lewisville Ecological Learning Area (LLELA) remain open with no updates received since the last report.

Some action reported at South Lakes Park Pond and the Brazos River.

Overall, bait continues to produce. However, reports from the Guadalupe continue to suggest Wooley Buggers and Nymphs, Silver Super Dupers, and White Rooster Tails. Reports from the Brazos are also suggesting Wooley Buggers in size 10/12. Good luck and good fishing! Cold Temps and Suggested Trout Spots.

Cold temperatures today are having a negative impact on outdoor activity. From a runner's point of view, have opted to stay inside and workout on the treadmill.

From a fisherman's point of view, bundle up! Word from the Metroplex Field Team indicates Trout action at River Park in Fort Worth and Bob Jones in Grapevine. Of note is Bob Jones which received a Trout Stocking yesterday.

Suggested baits are Corn, Powerbait, and Earthworms. For fly fishermen, Olive Wooly Buggers in size 14 seem to be attractive.

Stay active; good luck and good fishing!

Ditto

Ditto for this morning.  Another cold one with an Artic Blast forecasted tomorrow. Temperature was in the mid 20's when we went out.  Ran by Celebration Park and headed to the Lost Creek Subdivision.  Noted a series of three ponds with fountains around the 1.6 mile point.  Heard others speak of Bass and Catfish caught in the ponds during the Summer.  Beware though, it is private property and posted as a catch and release only lake.  Continued running past Marion Elementary and then to Reed Elementary, taking the running trail that parallels a creek.  Another route with flat ground and minimal street crossings/intersections.

Cold Morning

Out and about this morning. Colder than yesterday with temps reported in the upper 20's.  Ran by Shadow Lakes Trail; water was clear but no fish were noted.  Continued to Bethany Lakes; no surface activity observed, looks as if the Upper Pond (Pond C) is done this season for Trout.  Passing Bethany Creek Pond, water was clear with small Sunfish hovering near the drainage canal/feeder creek.  Easy route for running with flat ground and minimal street crossings/intersections.

Out to Lunch

Drove by Bethany Ridge Park on the corner of Bethany and Allen Heights in Allen at lunch today.  Noticed ongoing construction near the picnic area and fishing pier.  Looks like an island/peninsula is being built up.  Cross our fingers the construction is completed before Spring to allow time for the area to recover.  Say goodbye to the drop-off point near the pier.

Out and About This AM.

Was out and about this morning and ran by Celebration Park's East and North Ponds.  Water levels are lower but did observe some surface activity in the East Pond; suspect Bluegill/Sunfish.  Continued running on a route that passed Reed Elementary and continued on the jogging/walking trail that runs along the small creek to the South of the school.  Creek is a shallow water creek that holds small fish but have seen an occasional Bass - fingerling-sized.  All for now.

Trout Fishing at Waterloo Park.

Out and about this morning with a fishing trip to Waterloo Park in Denison. Things started out slow but picked up later. Able to limit out with five Trout.

January 11, 2009 - Limited Out at Waterloo

Headed out early this morning when temperatures were well below freezing. Arrived at Waterloo around 8AM and began fishing the small pond. See Picture for reference. Mapboard at Waterloo: Had several nibbles on Orange Powerbait, and then caught a Trout. Bite was slow but steady; just could not hook them solidly. Shortly after 9AM, nothing hit for 2+ hours. Was about to call it a day when the Trout started biting again around 11AM. Still was hit or miss on Orange Powerbait. Switched over to Corn and finally landed one around 11:30AM. Limited out with a total of five just short of Noon. A check of stomach contents showed the following: 2 with Corn, 1 with Corn/Pink Powerbait, 1 with Corn/Chartruese Powerbait, and 1 empty. Todays Catch:

Celebration Park - January 8, 2009

Warm day today; able to make a quick trip to Celebration Park's North Pond for Bluegill/Sunfish. Saw enough action to stay ready for light striking Trout. Cross our fingers we will be able to test our reflexes on Trout at other locations in the area in the near future. Small but Scrappy. No Trout. Just Sunfish

Cold and windy at Bethany Lakes this evening. Flyfished a Bead Head Nymph with no luck on Trout. Managed to hook and land Sunfish on a steady but slow retrieve. Fish were about 6" in size. No Trout. Just Sunfish.
