Largemouth Bass Weight Estimator (beta)

Did a little tinkering with data for estimating the weight of a Largemouth Bass using its length measured in inches and to the nearest eighth inch.  Created a "beta" weblog app and posted it in the sidebar.

To use the Estimator:
  • Measure the length of the Bass in inches and to the nearest eighth inch.
  • Then, enter a value from 10 to 29 in the first box to represent the length in whole inches of the Bass.
  • Next, enter a value from 0 to 7 in the second box to account for the remaining fractional inch of the Bass' length.  The default is 0 with values 0,1,2,3,... representing 0/8", 1/8", 2/8",3/8",....

Give it a try some time!

Tough Morning... One Fingerling Bass.

Was a tough morning.  Activity was slow compared to yesterday but did see other catching fish using bait.  Caught a fingerling Bass on a Hares Ear Nymph, else no luck using Leeches, Wooley Buggers, and other Streamers.  Did lose a few fishing flies to snags and "Tree Fish". May spend today indoors tying more fishing flies... forecasted high of 100+ degree temperature today!

Back to Bethany Lakes This Evening For More Fishing!

Back to Bethany Lakes this evening for more fishing at the Lower Pond.  Caught Sunfish and fingerling Bass.  Small but scrappy fighters....!

Catfish On A Shallow Running Minnow Plug!

Picture of a Catfish caught by one of our Readers at Bethany Lakes this morning.

Looks like a nice one.... Even nicer that it was caught on a lure - a 3" Shallow Running Minnow Plug on ultralight spinning gear!

PS: Switching to small Grub-Tail Jigs produced some small Bass and Sunfish as well!

Another Round At Bethany Lakes....

Another round at Bethany Lakes this morning.  Caught a 10" Bass on Yellow Grasshopper to closeout July's One Fishing Fly Challenge.  Managed a nice Bluegill on the Grasshopper as well, then switched to Leech Streamers in preparation for August's One Fishing Fly Challenge.

Promising results with various Bass and Bluegill caught and released.  Even caught little Bass for the first time this year in the Lower Pond by Joe Farmer Recreation Center.  Should be some fine fishing in the upcoming years!

Three Bluegill and Two Bass On A Quick Trip To Bethany Lakes This PM

Caught three Bluegill and two little Bass on a quick trip to Bethany Lakes this evening.  Only had about 30" to fish.  Decided on fishing a Black Dace Streamer in Size 10.  Good thing.... seemed to have had more strikes compared to other fishing flies this past month.  Or, could have been the cooler evening temps.  Regardless, worked well enough; may have to tie one in a larger size.

Bluegills And A Bass At Bethany Lakes This Evening!

Was hoping for Bruisers but ended with Bluegills and a Bass at Bethany Lakes this evening.  Fished with Wooley Buggers, Hares Ear Nymph, and a Black Gnat.  Caught the Bass on a Wooley Bugger, one Bluegill on the Nymph, and then a bunch of Bluegill on the Gnat fished dry.  Good practice for Trout this Winter!

Creek By Harrington Park Produces A Few Sunfish and Perch!

Stopped by Harrington Park in Plano to fish the creek that runs by the jogging trail.  Fun stuff catching Sunfish and Perch on fishing flies - Black Wooley Buggers and Olive Leeches. Sampling of a few caught this trip, really like the colors on the Perch!

Four Bass On Wooley Buggers This Evening At Bethany Lakes

Caught four bass on Wooley Buggers this evening at Bethany Lakes.  Was able to fish right after it rained.  Bite was steady for about 30", then it tapered off.  No Bruisers again, just little Scrappers!

Fished White Rock Lake in Dallas This Morning....

Fished White Rock Lake in Dallas this morning.  Tried Bread for bait and Olive Wooley Buggers in one of the creeks.  Caught mainly small Sunfish and Bluegill.  Did see a few Bruiser Bass as well as smaller Bass.  They were selectively feeding and pretty much ignored our fishing flies.  Fishing buddy did hook a large Goldfish but lost it while trying to land it.  Decided to take break and have lunch - temps were in the 100s!  Afterwards, hit one of the coves and had a few hits on Bread, else no luck.  Still was fun regardless of the slow action and heat.
