Damsel Flies and a Marabou Leech

To replace the Deer Hair Bug we lost today, decided on tying two Damsel Flies and a Marabou Leech instead.  We have been noticing a number of missed hooksets when Tenkara Fishing and Fly Fishing.  Seem to get a better hookset when the hook bend rests upward when fished.  Will see if tomorrow's outing yields more fish this next round!

Late Start,... One Little Fish Well After Dark

Late start today, ended up fishing and losing the Deer Hair Bug.  Did manage several strikes and misses when the Bass were actively feeding on the surface around dusk.  Closed out the trip with a little Sunfish.  No pictures today; camera phone does not take good pictures at night.

Back to Bethany with the Tenkara Rod.

Windy day made it tough, also short on time,... so went with the minimalist approach and brought the Tenkara Rod and Deer Hair Bug to try for the Bass.  But, lost it soon after fishing to a snag.  Switched to an Olive Wooley Bugger and hooked and lost a decent Bass.  Went to the Waterfall and finished out the trip catching a fingerling Bass and little Sunfish.  Fun stuff... small fish on light tackle make for a "big fight"!

Pair of Deer Hair Bugs To Replace Today's Lost One

Tied a pair of Deer Hair Bugs to replace the one lost today.  One has hackles for a tail and works well on Bass; the other uses marabou for the tail and (hopefully) targets Bruiser Bluegills!  Hope to find out later this week if it does!

Back to Bethany, Again... One Bass and a Lot More Missed Strikes

Back to our favorite local pond(s) for more Bass action.  Unfortunately, ended the trip with only one Bass.  Missed a lot more (about 10 total).  Worse... lost the Deer Hair Bug.  So, time to tie more.  For now, here is another short video clip of today's outing.

No Fishing Today.... But Big Bluegill Are Around The Corner!

No fishing today, other commitments made it tough even for a quick trip.  Did get a suggestion from NucLaroche to start another Squidoo Lens - Bruiser Bluegill, as warmer weather is nearing and the Bluegill will soon be nesting on their beds!

Check it out when you get a chance, and if you did catch a Bruiser or two, three,... send pictures to our Webmaster at COAF.Weblog@Live.Com!  We will gladly post them in the Bluegill Gallery section!

Colder Day Today, Only One Little Bass This Round.

Tied another Deer Hair Bug to replace the one lost yesterday.  Then, went back to Bethany Lakes to try it out on the Bass.  Colder day compared to yesterday.  Fish were not active, save for one that struck the Deer Hair Bug!

Here is a short video clip of the trip and a couple of pictures at the end showing the Deer Hair Bug used today....

Shadow Lakes and Bethany Lakes Today.

Another trip to Shadow Lakes for another go at the Bass. Tough go but managed to catch two Bass and three Sunfish.

Went on to Bethany Lakes for more Bass action. Caught one on the Deer Hair Bug, then lost it. Switched to the Yellow Grasshopper Variant and caught one more Bass!

Tenkara Fishing At The George Bush Library.... Video Clip.

Following up on our earlier post.  This is the short video clip of the Bruiser Bluegill we caught while on a road trip Saturday (12Mar'11) using the 12' Caddis Tenkara Rod we purchased earlier this year.

Pond is located behind the George Bush Library at Texas A&M and is catch and release and barbless hooks only, so.... there may be more Bruisers lurking where this one came from!

Caught Three Sunfish On The Tenkara Rod and a Purple Clouser Variant Yesterday.

Braved the gusty winds to try Tenkara Fishing yesterday.  Managed to catch three Sunfish using the Tenkara Rod and a Purple Clouser Variant.  Made a short video of the outing and posted it below.

Today, was on the road passing through College Station.  Decided to stop by Texas A&M and fish the pond behind the George Bush Library.  Used the Tenkara Rod to stick with the minimalist approach to fishing (easy to pack the rod in the car).

Ended up losing the Purple Clouser Variant but had a pleasant surprise catching a Bruiser Bluegill!  Will post a video later.
