Cabelas' Baitcasting Combo, Bethany, and Five Bass and a Sunfish!

Decided to put the "Red Round Reels" on the shelf and purchase a new Baitcasting Combo.  Went with a $60 combo that Cabelas is offering.  Saw some really expensive gear but was not prepared to spend a lot of money.  Also, while at Cabelas, picked up some more Senkos and hooks.

Fished with the Baitcasting Combo at Bethany Lakes.  Had a few strikes on the Senko but no solid hookups.  Switched to a Jitterbug and fished well after dark.  Managed to catch (and release) five Bass and a Sunfish that really wanted the Jitterbug.

Did lose two Bruisers that hit the Jitterbug hard but came off shortly after the initial strike when they jumped and shook the hook loose!

Senko on a Carolina Rig Worked Well at the Village.

Went back to the Village this evening.  Had fun catching Bass on a Carolina Rigged Senko Worm!  Fun stuff... Bass still keep holding on like it were live bait!  Caught and released 13 Bass this round.  No Bruisers but great practice for that big one that is lurking around the next bend!

Senko Worm Gets a Few Bass at the Village.

Struck out last night at Bethany using the Hula Popper.  Had some decent strikes but could not get a solid hookset to bring one in.  This evening switched to an unweighted Senko Worm and fished the Village Pond.  Did well with five Bass caught; did miss three others.  Really like how the Bass take hold of the Worm as if it were live bait!

Surface Popper and Senko Worm Rig.

Picked up some Senko Worms while out running errands.  Tried them out this evening by tying them to the rear eyelet of the Homemade Surface Popper.  Got a few hits on the Popper and more hits on the Senko.  But, only managed to set the hook twice... on two Bass!

Tenkara Rod Still Good For Working the Shoreline!

Went with the Tenkara Rod this morning to work the shoreline at Bethany Lakes.  Been having trouble spooking the fish when using Flyfishing Gear.  Caught one Bruiser Bluegill and missed a decent Bass, else it was mainly little fish... which works well on a Tenkara Rod!

Struck Out This Afternoon... Brockdale Park.

Trolled the point at Brockdale Park (Lake Lavon). Tough time this round with zero fish caught. Regardless, was a good workout rowing on a calm but hot day!  Water level was low and no baitfish (Shad) sighted.

Morning At The Village....

Fished at the Village this morning.  Slow action but did get three Bass.  No Bruisers... did get a lot of missed strikes though.  Caught them all on an Olive/Red Deer Hair Bug.  Tied it with a Size 4 Hook.  May need to go to a Size 6 like the Red and White Popper that we picked up at Cabelas.

Struck Out Last Night...!

Struck out last night at Auburn Springs and Kroger Park. Hope to turn this trend around over the 3-Day Weekend... hopefully! Tied a Deer Hair Bug to replace the Red and White Surface Popper lost while fishing Stoney Hollow the other day. Tied using a similar sized hook as the Red and White Surface Popper. Should be able to handle a Bruiser or two!

Update:  Fished Stoney Hollow Park and caught two Bass on the Surface Popper.  Had a number of missed strikes.  And, had a water snake check out one of the Bass.  Had pictures of the Bass and the water snake... but erased them by accident.

Stoney Hollow Park... Bass Go For the Surface Popper, Too!

Stopped by Stoney Hollow Park in Plano to fish the pond.  Had not been there in a while but was pleasantly surprised that the Bass were liking the Surface Popper, too!  Only bad thing... lost the Red and White Deer Hair Bug after a Bass wrapped the line around a snag.  Good to have the back up Green and White Deer Hair Bug.

Deer Hair Popper Works Out Well at Kroger Park!

Went to Kroger Park this evening and fished with the Deer Hair Popper.  Surface action was good with Bass readily taking the fly!  Caught four but missed more... slow reflexes, bad eyes, aging,... any excuse for missing a strike.  Lotta fun regardless!
