Two Sunfish and Two Bass This Round

Lots of rain yesterday, so no fishing.  No rain today, so went fishing!  Caught two Sunfish and two Bass on a White Damsel Fly Variant.  Fish were there but the action seemed slower than the other day.

Caught Several Fish with a White Damsel Fly Variant!

Caught several fish at Bethany using a White Damsel Fly Variant.  Brought the Three Weight Fly Rod that we picked up from Cabelas last year.  Was happy to hook and land three Bluegill/Sunfish and three Bass.

Even happier that the Three Weight handled an 8" Bluegill/Shellcracker(?) Hybrid, a skinny 15" Bass, and an 18.5" Bass.  All three made the minimum for the COAF Fishing Leader Board!  Moreover, the 18.5" Bass takes second in the One Fishing Fly Challenge!  Soon to be bumped by others we hope!

Bass on a 3 Weight; Catfish on a MadDragon!

Fished Bethany this afternoon using a 3 Weight Fly Rod.  Caught 4 little Bass using a White Damsel Fly and a Guadalupana.  Came back in the evening and fished for Catfish.  Caught three Catfish on Doughbait using the MadDragon Carp Rod we ordered from Bass Pro Shops.  Really like this Carp Rod!

No Catfish This Round,... Bass and Bluegill, instead.

Started out fishing for Catfish at Bethany.  Had a few bites but no hookups while the sky was overcast.  Soon as the sun broke through the clouds and things cleared up, the bites quit.  Did see little Bass lurking in beds and other cover.  Also, saw a few Bluegill hovering in their beds.

Caught mainly little Bass and Bluegill ranging from 5" to 7" in length.  Caught on  them on various flies to include the Guadalupana, Caddis Fly, Olive Wooley Bugger, and Dry Fly.  Was hoping to catch a Bass on a Dry Fly but could not match the pattern - Dragon Flies!  Bass were jumping out of the water to catch them hovering over the water!

Field Test Went Well. Liking This Batch!

Went fishing at Bethany again to try out another Doughbait recipe.  This one seemed to work well with 13 Catfish caught and released.  Largest went 23" with others going 15" to 19".  Smaller ones were averaging 13" to 14".  Fun stuff!  Even hooked (and released) a Turtle.

Caught a Few Catfish on Doughtbait This Evening!

Made it to Bethany Lakes this evening and fished for Catfish using the Daiwa MadDragon Carp Rod.  Been testing out a new recipe for Doughtbait.  Seemed to have worked well this round. Caught and released about 15 Catfish.  Fish ranged from 13" to 17" in size.  Fun stuff!

Bluegill and a Sunfish and a Lot of Frustration!

Fished Bethany Creek Park and worked the Brown Damsel Fly Variant.  Water was crystal clear and could see little, medium, and Bruiser Bass cruising the canal.  Had several go for the fishing fly but none were hooked solid.  Even had one that went easily over 4 pounds take the fishing fly twice.  Bottomline: A lot of frustration seeing them strike without one landed.

Shifted over to Bethany Lakes and noted several spawning beds had been worked over with a cast net.  Looks like that area is done this spawning season.  (Note: Pole and line fishing is the only leqal means to fish in a community lake).

Not wanting to leave without catching anything, decided to fish the canal with a White Damsel Fly in Size 10.  Caught a Bluegill and a Sunfish!

Next round, may need to shift over to trying to catch the Bruiser Koi that are lurking in the Main Pond for now.

Two Bass This Round at Kroger Park.

Fished Kroger Park this evening.  Caught two Bass using the Brown Damsel Fly Variant.  Worked slowly across their beds; the Bass could not resist.  One went about 12" other went just over 14".  Fun stuff catching them!

Only Two Bass This Round But Both Made the Leader Board!

dFished Bethany this evening.  Only caught two Bass this round but both made the COAF Leader Board and the One Fishing Fly Challenge!  One went 16" in size; other went 18" in size!  Both went for the Brown Damsel Fly Variant.  Did make a change to the fly.  Used a saltwater hook in size 2; same hook we use for Clousers.  And then, added some Brown/Orange Crystal Chenille.

Caught Several Bruisers Today at Bethany!

Had a great time fishing Bethany today!  Caught ten Bass.  One Bass went 19", another went 17", and another one went 15"!  Also, caught one that went 14"; remainder measured just under/over 12" in size.

All were caught on a Brown Damsel Fly Variant that has a weighted keel.  Keel allowed the hook to ride bend up and simulated a little crawdad.  Most were caught on a slow retrieve as the fly moved across their beds!

Good Stuff, finally able to post pictures of Bass on the COAF Fishing Leader Board and the One Fishing Fly Challenge!
