Another Go at Kayak Fishing Brockdale Park

Made a run to Brockdale Park to Kayak Fish for White Bass.  Met up with TFF's Mikes14 and worked the Point trolling Crappie Jigs and Roadrunners.  Lots of baitfish in the area, and a few fish lurking over the brushline, but overall the action was slow.  Regardless, had fun catching and releasing a few White Bass as well as putting a nice sized Crappie on the stringer!

More Fishing at Denison Dam Tailrace

Went up the road today for another round of fishing at Denison Dam.  Arrived when the Power Plant was not generating.  Fished the Texas Wall at first, catching small Stripers.  Moved downriver to try our luck.  Did well,... with two of us managing to limit out.  Caught and released most of them, keeping those that were deep hooked.

On the way back, stopped at Dave's Ski and Tackle for something to drink.  Noticed the sign on the microwave.  Must be in a good fishing area!

Also, while filleting our catch, noticed something different in the stomach of one fish.  Looks like a piece of a plastic Curly Tail Grub and a Fluke.  Might need to remember this next round!

More White Bass at Brockdale Park

Returned to Brockdale Park for more kayak fishing for White Bass.  Mostly undersized fish but did catch one Keeper.  Caught them on a White Marabou Roadrunner.  Slow but steady action with a lot of wind.  Did see a few boils of fish feeding on shad as it got later in the day.

Rigged a Fish Finder to the Kayak, Made a Difference!

Decided to rig a fish finder to the kayak.  After some tinkering, made a power source that uses eight AA Batteries for power.  Then, used some scrap PVC to make a transducer mount.  Went to the Brockdale Park this evening to try it out. Soon after launching was able to locate a few schools of fish and an underwater brush line that held fish!  Caught mainly undersized White Bass and a few Yellow Bass on a White Marabou Roadrunner.  Then, had a Bruiser take the Roadrunner but quickly snapped the line.  Switched to a White Crappie Jig and caught a White Bass before calling it quits.  Fun stuff, even better that the wind was negligible!

Wooley Rooster Martin at Celebration This Round

Went with a Wooley Rooster Martin for a quick trip to Celebration Park.  Fished the East Pond and caught little Bluegill.  Even had a White Egret lurking nearby trying to steal our fish as we released them.  No Bruisers but fun stuff especially using a homemade inline spinner!

Windy Day at Ticky Creek

Fished Ticky Creek this morning.  Decided to use the Sit Inside Kayak this round; really like the Heritage Angler.  Just have not used it in awhile.  Windy day and only one undersized White Bass!  Better luck next time.  Made a short video clip and posted it on COAF Field Team's Facebook page.

Slow Action at the Village this AM

Was slow action this morning at the Village but did manage three Bass to take a Weightless Senko.  Noticed it was cooler than yesterday and with less wind.  Regardless, things should get warmer as the day progresses.

Steady Action at Denison Dam

Been a while since we fished Denison.  Had the chance to go today, so we headed up the road. Fished around Noon to about 4PM.  Caught Gaspergou (Freshwater Drum), a Gar, and a few small Stripers. Caught them using frozen Shad.... Fun stuff!

Dusted Off the Tenkara Rod

Went to Plano East Senior High School's pond yesterday and caught a number of fish using fly fishing gear.  Went back today with the Tenkara Rod.  Had a lot of fun catching them despite the windy conditions!

Been awhile since we used the Tenkara Rod.  Had a Reader ask about it.  Sounded like a good idea, especially when the fish were lurking so close to the bank.  Most fish were caught within 5' of the bank.

Back To School Again!

Windy day, decided to fish Plano East Senior High School's ponds.  Like that the buildings can block the wind for flyfishing.  Used a BH Antron Streamer and a BH Wooley Bugger.  Caught a Bass and a number of Sunfish/Bluegill.  A lot of fun on a Three Weight!
