Windy Day at Waterloo....

Was a windy day at Waterloo; luckily the Rainbow Trout were not bothered by it.  Steady action on the Guadalupana as well as Bread and Powerbait.  Two of us fished; two of us limited out!  Fun stuff!

Field Team Limited Out Again... Powerbait and Fishing Flies Worked!

Went up the road again to Denison for another round with the Rainbow Trout.  Trout continued to go for Powerbait but not as aggressively compared to yesterday.  This time it seemed fishing flies were the "go to" lure.  They struck the Guadalupana, GRHEN, and Flashback GRHEN.  Fun stuff... caught some, lost some, and kept some.  Both NucLaroche and Fshng84 limited out.  Too bad T-Bone and the Comal Kid missed the opportunity; no worries, we expect more to come in the next few weeks!  Crossing our fingers of course.

Rainbow Trout at Waterloo

Fished Waterloo Park Pond in Denison.  Caught Rainbow Trout using Powerbait in Rainbow Trout Glitter and the Guadalupana fishing fly.  We managed to catch our limit with five Trout each; no Bruisers... just small Stockers but still a lot of fun especially on the flyrod.

Made a short video; had an issue with the video editing... two images instead of one.  Something about 3D video.  Was going to redo it for 2D but had already deleted the original video.  Regardless, the video does give the sense that the pond is little and the Trout were biting!

Slow Down in the Action

Stopped by Bethany this evening.  Cold temps and some action for some before the sunset.  Looked like the Trout were going for Salmon Eggs and Bread.  Soon as the sun went down; action slowed with a few Trout being caught on Salmon Eggs.  This round managed to catch a Shellcracker again and a Trout on Bread.  Decided to call it quits after dark and head indoors to warm up!

Cold Front Dropped Temps,... But Bite is Still On!

Stopped by at lunch for a shot at the Trout at Bethany.  Cold front dropped temps but the bite was still on for some.  Trout were taking Orange Powerbait as well as White Marshmallows.  Tried bread and had one strike, else had to call it a trip.  Too cold with the strong wind cutting through layers of clothing.  Decided to come back later.

Returned later in the evening and action was steady.  Caught one using a slip-bobber and bread.  Had several strikes and misses, then the hook broke off.  Switched to freelining bread and caught three more Trout and a Shellcracker.

Then, the bite slowed.  After 15" without a strike, switched to Powerbait (Yellow Glitter Garlic) and caught Trout #5 on the first cast.  Fun stuff, even better because the wind calmed down compared to earlier in the day!

Bad News... Lake Level is LOW again!

Bad news lake level is low again this year.  The ramp that we use to access the area we hunt is closed.  Going to put Duck Hunting on hold for now - Lake Lavon Park Closures.

Pattern Changed....

Another round at Bethany this morning.  Things started out well with steady surface action and rising Trout.  Able to sight cast and hook and land two; missed about ten others.  Then, the action stopped.  Met another TFF Member and started working the area near the pier.  Had a lot of interested "looks" at GRHENs, Zebra Midges, GloBugs, and many other fishing flies.  Then, the other TFF Member hooked up with three that took a Micro Jig!

Unfortunately, had to leave them biting.  "Honey Do's" were calling - specifically, Christmas Shopping at the Mall.  However, got a break when we learned the Mall did not open till Noon. So, went back to Bethany to try for three more Trout to make a limit.

Brought Bread this time as the Trout were readily feeding on it earlier.  Tied on a Size 12 Hook and pressed the Bread into a flat shape, then freelined it just off the pier.  Ended up missing a number of strikes but did get three more Trout.

Pattern seemed to have changed.  Less surface activity and more lurking below waiting for food to come by.  Going to play the next week by ear and adjust appropriately.

Field Team Gets Two Limits!

Fished the morning bite and limited out on Trout using a GRHEN!  Caught them by sight casting to risers as schools passed by.  Missed a lot more either when bring them in or right after they struck the fishing fly.

Came back with fishing buddy "T-Bone", and baited up with Powerbait Yellow Glitter Garlic.  Managed a limit in about 30"!

While walking back to the parking area stopped by the pier to checkout the action.  Trout were there,... just very picky about what they wanted.  Did notice them readily taking Bread.  May need to try freelining Bread next round!

PS:  Two Limits for Dinner!

Fishing Flies Worked This Round!

Went to Bethany Lakes this morning and brought the Fly Fishing Gear.  Had tried Wooley Buggers earlier in the week.  Had one strike but did not land any.  Several years ago they were going for Black Midges and Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymphs (GRHENs).  So, what was in the fly box this time... Black Midges and GRHENs.

Good thing... had several Trout take the Dry Fly but either missed the hookset or came off the hook while reeling it in.  Was finally able to get one to stay on the hook long enough to land it.  Then, decided to switch to the GRHEN.  Had several strikes and misses, then landed two before losing the fishing fly.  Called it a morning with plans to stop by at lunch time.

Returned at lunch time and was able to get two more to complete a limit.  Caught them using the GRHEN!  Fun stuff... posted a video clip.  No action shots and had trouble pronouncing Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph; regardless, it was fun catching them on the fly!

Slower Morning But Did Limit Out!

Fished Bethany this morning for another round with the Rainbow Trout.  Trout continue to be active on the surface (at least in the morning).  Was able to limit out using Super Dupers.

Missed a few but managed to get five in about 40".  Two went for the Copper Super Duper and three went for the Gold Super Duper.  Did have one take a Silver Kastmaster but it soon came off the hook while reeling it in!  Fun stuff!
