Fished Clear Lake this morning with the kayak. Tried drifting for Catfish with Shad; had two nibbles but no hook ups. Switched to a Slab and Jig Rig and had one take but failed to set the hook well. Kept at it; a White Bass struck but was not a Keeper. Went another 30"; another struck. It was a Keeper. Only two White Bass this round with only one Keeper. Still a fun time!
Made it to Bethany this evening. Rained this morning briefly; not enough to restore the water level. Still low but the fish were biting. Things started out slow but managed to catch Bass, Bluegill, Sunfish, and even a Catfish! Fun stuff!
Went to Clear Lake Park at Lavon yesterday. Rain was looming in the distance, decided to bring the cast net and catch some Shad for bait. Found that one of the two boat ramps was closed. Luckily, the other remained open, so we were able to cast our net and catch a few Shad before we called it a trip!
Went kayak fishing this morning. Was planning to launch from the free boat ramp nearest the dam. Road was closed. Luckily, had the COE Annual Pass, so went to Lavonia Park and put in from the Day Use Area. Paddled out to the Point we like to fish and began working the area... trolling a Slab and Crappie Jig Rig as well as casting to boils! Caught two Yellow Bass and a number of White Bass with three Keepers. Fish for Dinner tonight!
Went to Bethany Lakes this morning with mini-jigs and an ultralight again. Caught a couple of Bass and Sunfish/Bluegill. Ended the outing with several Fingerling Bass. Been noticing surface activity yesterday and this morning; could not get them to take a lure until this round. Turned out to be the Fingerling Bass making all the splashing!
Been a little while since we fished Bethany Lakes. Made it this evening luckily. First thing that caught our eye was the low water level. Can see Cypress knees and bare ground that was once underwater not too long ago. Brought the Ultralight this round and started fishing Senkos. Had several bites but could quickly tell they were small ones. Switched to a Pink Trout Magnet - a mini-jig that works well on small fish. First fish was a little Bass caught in the Lower Pond, and then it was Sunfish in the Canal. Later, moved to the pier in the Horseshoe Pond and had a few light strikes before hooking into a Bluegill lurking deep. Then, decided to cast parallel to the pier and work the lure slowly back to where we were positioned. Managed to hook into a decent Bass that went 15" in size. Fun stuff!
Checkout our new partner site.... It's the Fish Bulletin Board. We tried to salvage pictures but only managed a handful. No worries, we will look to the future to post new pictures! Since we had to retire the Fishing Leader Board at the direction of our web host due to low content and quality, the new Fish Bulletin Board includes fishing suggestions and recommendations fro our Team. Do check them out when you get a chance!
Was on the road today. Decided to give the Comal River in New Braunfels a try. Really hot day. Could see fish lurking in the holes in the river. Saw Bluegill, Sunfish, Tilapia, and Bass. Managed to catch four Bluegill/Sunfish; could not get the Bass to bite. Even the Bruisers lurking in the area!
Went with the fly rod again and headed to Bethany this evening. Was a tough go with all the algae; much different than yesterday! Did manage to catch 20 fish this round; caught them on a Grasshopper, Dry Fly, and a Globug. No Bruisers; still a lot of fun! No action shots, just pictures of fish. PS: Met TFF's Future Biologist; was great meeting! Only if the algae was not so bad....
Went with a Fly Rod yesterday when we fished Bethany Lakes. Question came up on the Texas Fishing Forum about fly fishing at Bethany. Overall, we tend to get more strikes when fly fishing; yesterday's outing seemed the case compared to the Senkos we used on Monday. Caught 20 Bluegill and Sunfish and 5 Bass. The Bluegill and Sunfish tended to be small... not as big as we saw earlier when they were on their beds at least in the Back Pond. No Bruiser Bass either but they did put up a nice fight on a Four Weight; even got a few action shots!
