Broke Down and Went Virtual Fishing

Tough time getting out to fish with all the ice.  Broke down and went virtual fishing with the Wii. Not the same as the real thing but will do for now!

Getting Cabin Fever.... Here's Another Article, "PowerBait Fishing Rigs for Rainbow Trout"

Things are still icy and cold out there.  Been working on a number of things including another article - "PowerBait Fishing Rigs for Rainbow Trout".  This one describes four Trout Fishing Rigs that the Field Team likes using.  Hope it helps may be one or two fishermen this Season!

They Do Have a Few Nice Sized Ones Down There...!

Was out in Gruene picking up more fishing flies.  Did notice the nice looking Rainbow Trout hanging on the wall.  This one went 22" in length; much bigger than the 16" one we caught the other dat at Rio Raft.  Is good to know they have a few nice sized ones down there!

Snow Delay... Here is Another Guadalupe River Article

Snow delay, so no fishing as we bundle up to stay warm.  Heard from some of our Readers that traffic is bad and the commute is longer than normal.  Also, heard some are without power.... for us, we are online but the latest storm did break a tree limb that "nudged" the house.  No damage luckily!

So, till warmer weather, here is another article that may be of interest to Readers planning a trip to the Guadalupe River.... "Guadalupe River by L&L Campground: Rainbow Trout Fishing".

Caught a Few Scrappy Ones This Round

Short on time but the urge to fish would not go away.  Decided to grab the four weight fly rod and a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly and head to the North Pond at Celebration Park.

Really light strikes but luckily got a fix on the hook set and caught a few Sunfish and Bluegill! Have found that catching these scrappy ones makes good practice for the Rainbow Trout that are soon to be stocked in the community lakes and ponds!

Fun stuff.... now going to hunker down during the cold front that is soon to arrive.

Another HubPages Article... COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly

Had a question from one of our Readers about the Guadalupana pattern we use.  Decided to post a HubPages article - "COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly", to provide more details on the variant of the Guadalupana that the Team uses.

It's smaller than the original pattern but seems to be a good fishing fly for the little Stocker Rainbow Trout we see in our area.

Do check it out when you get a chance!

Another Round at Rio Raft... Caught a Trout!

Fished the Guadalupe River at the Rio Raft access point today.  Was a really nice day, saw several Rainbow Trout but only managed to catch one!

It went 16" in length, too small for the minimum limit for the area we were fishing but still had a great time catching him.

Used a 6wt Switch Rod and a Tandem Midge and Prince Nymph Rig.  Trout struck the Prince Nymph!

Did work a pool for about an hour plus that had Trout feeding on something but could not get them to strike.

Tried midges, nymphs, dry flies, san juan worms, wooley buggers, guadalupanas,... the kitchen sink!  No worries though,... the 16" Rainbow Trout that went for the Prince Nymph was a great consolation prize!
