Another go at Huaco Springs gets more Rainbow Trout! Fshng84 gets five using a Four Weight Fly Rod and a COAF Guadalupana; NucLaroche gets five, too - two on a Silver Duper and three on a Bubble Fly Rig and a COAF Guadalupana! Also, one guest fisherman with the Team gets a Rainbow Trout using a Silver Duper! Fun day on the Guadalupe; even better that they stocked the River around 11AM, too! Action was steady with some hot moments when the Trout were feeding on the surface!
Fished a new place just downriver from Mountain Breeze Resort. Promising area in the Trophy Zone. Only managed to catch a Longear Sunfish on a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly. Did see two other fishermen, who caught a Trout and lost a Trout. Good to know there are fish lurking in the area!
From us to you, Merry Christmas! Hope all our Readers are enjoying the Holidays! And, possibly can sneak away to catch a fish or two! Good Luck and Good Fishing!
Decided to give the Guadalupe River a try this morning. Opted for Camp Huaco Springs as it was recently stocked last Friday. When we arrived, could see the Rainbow Trout swimming about. NucLaroche worked one side of the river with an Ultralight Spinning Rig and caught two with PowerBait and three on a homemade Super Duper. Fshng84 worked the other side using Fly Fishing Gear and caught four on a Prince Nymph and one on a COAF Guadalupana! Fun stuff... with two limits taken on a chilly but sunny day!
Stopped by Bethany Lakes to fish this morning. Really cold; rod guides were icing up. Did see one limit taken, else the action was slow. Tried catching them using fly fishing gear; had a few strikes but did not hook up. After a couple of hours, headed to the house to warm up and add a few more layers to stay warm. After a cup of coffee and when the feeling came back in my toes, headed back for another try. This time was able to catch two on PowerBait and three on a GRHEN! Fun stuff but do dress warm!
Checked out the morning bite at Bethany; saw one limit taken, else the action was slow. Did get a few strikes on a fishing fly but not able to set the hook. Headed back to the house to warm up... cold morning with ice on the rod guides!
Late start Saturday. Rainy day but luckily it stopped by evening. Fished with PowerBait and caught five Trout to make a limit. Slow action, taking three hours to limit out. The last one took over an hour to catch but did have two nibbles between Trout #4 and Trout #5! Fun stuff!
Late start going fishing today. Ended up fishing the evening bite at Bethany. Action was slow with light strikes and missed hook sets being the norm. Did get three using Trout Fishing Rig #2 (see PowerBait Fishing Rigs for Rainbow Trout) PowerBait after about 1.5 hours. After another 30", caught one on the second rod rigged with Trout Fishing Rig #1. And then, 30" later caught the last one on the second rod as well. Fun stuff... not bad for 2.5 hours on a quiet and cool (non-freezing temps) evening!
Back to Bethany this morning. Temps in the 30s but no worries... action was steady on the Gold Super Duper! Caught a limit of five! Tried a steady retrieve without success. Went back to what worked yesterday - count to 8-10, reel fast, then stop, repeat... and watch the line and rod tip for any hint of a strike! Fun stuff!
Trout stocking at Bethany Lakes today. Missed the truck releasing trout but luckily NucLaroche was able to get some footage! Shortly after, he started hooking up with Rainbow Trout using PowerBait. Caught three and lost a couple as well as missed a few hook sets. Fshng84 gave it a try working a Gold Super Duper. Managed to limit out with five, and then stood by and watched NucLaroche catch two to make his limit also using a Gold Super Duper! Did notice that the trout tended to strike the lure as it fluttered when we stopped reeling. First tried a steady retrieve without success, and then did a stop and go retrieve that seemed to work... at least for this round. Lots of fun, a number of limits being taken. Action should be steady over the next few days... at least until the Cormorant arrive!
