Bite was good at Towne Lake this morning! Brought the Switch Rod and was able to make long cast to the middle of the pond and get a Trout or two or three. Fast retrieve was the key at first. Then, a slower (drifting) retrieve worked. Did see others doing well on small Nymphs, Wooley Buggers, and Midges as well as Silver Super Dupers. Ended the morning with a limit of Trout!
Finished work on a TGIF with enough daylight for another go at Murphy City Hall Pond! Caught four Rainbow Trout on a COAF Guadalupana and several Bluegill! Fun stuff!
Here is a new article for our simple dough bait recipe. We posted one previously but had to re-publish it. Check it out some time at Simple Dough Bait Recipe! It uses only a few ingredients and can be made in less than 30"!

Fished Murphy City Hall Pond again this evening. Late start but was there in time to get one Trout before dark and one Trout just at dark. Did miss a couple, and also caught two Bluegill that went for the COAF Guadalupana! Used the Switch Rod to gain more distance on the cast but as it turned out, both Trout were caught well within casting distance obtained on the little Four Weight Rod used yesterday.
Collin County Trout Stockings this past weekend in McKinney, Prosper, and a new one for this year - Murphy! Missed the action this weekend but was able to make it to Murphy this evening. Caught four Rainbow Trout on a COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly. Would have limited out but missed the hook set on three others. Oh well... lotta fun! No action shots, just some quick action to get a few fish for dinner!
Nice weather and enough light to give it a shot at Bethany this evening. Fished Bethany Lakes with fly fishing gear. Used the new fishing fly that worked on Trout at Frisco Commons yesterday. Calling it a Gold Tinsel Fly for now. Started out fishing the Canal with one Bluegill that followed the fly, and then fished the Main Pond and was able to catch a Bass and a Sunfish. Fun stuff on a nice short-sleeved weather evening!
Fished Frisco Commons this morning. Hooked up using the Gold Super Duper, then switched to the fly rod and caught three more to make a limit using a new fishing fly. No name for it yet; tied like the COAF Guadalupana but with White Marabou and a Gold Tinsel for the body. Needed something with Gold in it. After limiting out, did some catch and release fishing. Was able to hook up with a couple more Trout and a Bluegill! Fun Stuff!
No action shots this round; had a low battery. Forgot to charge the camera since the last outing. No worries, able to get enough footage of the Trout (as well as several Bluegill) that were caught. Started off with a COAF Guadalupana that the little Bluegill liked. Then, switched to an Ultralight and caught three Rainbow Trout on a Gold Super Duper. Went back to fly fishing and got them to take a Size 10 Gold Bead Head Wooley Bugger. Key to hooking up was a slow retrieve when fishing the Super Duper and a long pulls and 6-8 count stop and go retrieve when fishing the Wooley Bugger. Fun stuff... decided to cook them with Cajun Blackened Seasoning on a hot iron skillet!
Made it back this afternoon to Frisco. Trout still were lurking near the bank, and they were picky, picky, picky. After changing fishing flies several times, finally hooked up with one using a variant of the COAF Guadalupana - tied using a Size 12 Caddis Hook, else it's the same pattern. Also, noticed a steady retrieve as a school passed would usually attract the one hungry Trout to break from its buddies and strike. Managed to limit out, even did some catch and release, as well as catch a little Bluegill. No foul hooked fish; all struck the fishing fly and were hooked in the mouth. Overcast and cold, but still has a good time once we figured the pattern!
