Another report from Bethany Lakes. This one included a video and an onsite Podcast. Zeke, who brought his dog but no fishing pole tagged along and stretched his legs while watching the action.

Here are key notes from today:

  • Game Warden checked fishing licenses this morning, be sure your license is up to date
  • Black Super Duper was the go to lure; tried gold, silver, and copper... one hit on the silver

Warren Sports Complex | Fishing Trip Report | 2-13-2022

In keeping with the rollout of our Bait Finesse Systems Fishing Journal, the following is the Fishing Trip Report for last Sunday – Super Bowl Sunday, to the Warren Sports Complex. Plan was to catch a trout or two, but as it turned out only one for trip. At least, it was not a strikeout!

PS: Added footage to the video on a follow-up trip on Valentine’s Day to catch Bass on Senkos BFS Style!

Trip Information

  • Date: 2-13-2022
  • Time: 0930-1230
  • Location: Warren Sports Complex, Frisco, TX

Key Take Aways:

  • Trout were stocked Thursday, and then the Annual Trick A Trout Derby was held Saturday.
  • Temps dropped 30 degrees on Sunday compared to Sunday.
  • Trout action was mainly on the Northeast end and the West side. Action seemed best near “waterflow” areas.
  • Windy, NW at 10+ mph
  • Gold Super Duper worked for one individual; long casts and steady retrieve.
  • Fire Tail Rooster Tail worked for one trout; slow retrieve.

Gear Used:

BFS Lure Data

Fish Data

  • Rainbow Trout – 9″ – Roster Tail (Fire Tail) – Slow Retrieve

Lessons Learned

  • Fish are tending to Northeast end and/or West side where water is deeper.
  • Waterflow areas were key.
  • Fish deep when using Power Bait
  • South end is shallow, looks promising for later in the year when temps warm.
  • Pond is large with the typical “stock tank” slope. Plan to fish parallel or at acute angles when warm water bite starts.

Warren Sports Complex Trout Fishing #frisco #livestream [02-13-2022]

Fishing updates and related activities from the Team! Do check back as we post YouTube Shorts, Videos, and Live Streams while we are out and about.

This round we fished Warren Sports Complex for the Trout Stocking in Frisco. Past years the tout were stocked at the Frisco Commons pond. This year and maybe going forward, the Warren Sports Complex was stocked.

The annual Trick A Trout Derby was held yesterday, but it sounds like the trout were stocked during the week instead of early Saturday morning.

The bite was slow with some limits observed; we suspect the change in temps - dropped 30 degrees from yesterday, had something to do with the slow down in the action.

Moreover, it is a big pond; more like a lake. Seemed like the trout were deep or lurking near the waterflow along the North bank - the one with the concrete retaining wall.

Do have video while we there; do check back!

Early Evening Gets More Trout at Bethany Lakes [12-25-2014]

Originally posted 12-25-2014

Early evening bite at Bethany looked good for some! Despite windy conditions, fishermen were getting bites and some were limiting out.

Key notes from the evening were:

  • PowerWorms and PowerBait under a Bobber were getting strikes
  • COAF Griffith's Gnat was working on rising trout
  • Several fishermen using Corn reported no nibbles... striking out without a trout

Video below shows action using the COAF Griffith's Gnat.

Mystery Tackle Box Unboxing | BFS Fishing Lures?

Second of a three box subscription that yours truly received as a Christmas Gift. Decided on the Panfish and Trout option because we have had good luck with the light weight lures that target panfish and trout…. and more important, can be used for Bait Finesse System aka ultralight baitcasting.

This round had five lures of which the Slim John Spoon at 1/12oz and Crappie Jigs at 1/16oz should work well with the BFS Combos we have!

Do check back; hope to catch a fish or two with them!

DIY Wooden Trout Net - Simple and Inexpensive, Follow as We Made One and Modified As Needed

Simple and Inexpensive

Below is a series of posts originally posted in October 2017. We were attempting to make a wooden trout net made with inexpensive material purchased from Home Depot.

The trout has done well for us over the years with a couple of modifications made to the netting. Initially, we used a plastic rubber lacing that worked but tended to stiffen as the Winter temps dropped to the 40s and lower.

Since then, we purchased a rubber net attached to the wood frame using zip ties. The zip ties had some rough edges that we made smooth using a kayak repair soldering iron.

Do check out the series of posts!

Q&A: DIY Wooden Trout Net...! #flyfishing

Held a YouTube Q&A session to answer questions from Readers about the wooden trout net we are making. Intent was to build one that would be durable, did not tangle with fishing flies when landing a fish, and could be made cheaply without special tools...

DIY Wooden Trout Net is coming along! #diy #woodentroutnet

Net is coming along nicely. All that is left is the netting. Should be done well before the Trout Stocking Season! Recapping past posts are pics for reference:

Forming the Wood, Making the Net

Almost Done...!

DIY Wooden Trout Net is Done, and new Echo Ion Reel Arrived....! #flyfishing

Banner day today! Finished the DIY Wooden Trout Net well before the Winter Trout Stocking Season! Will be shifting to fly tying in preparation for the the trout stockings on the Blue River in Oklahoma in November!

Also, new Echo Ion Reel arrived in 10/12 weight, balances well with the Cabelas TLR Switch Rod in 8 weight! Fished it with Lee Wullf's Triangle Taper Ambush fly line in 350 grain... can get some great casts with minimal effort with it. Still have the two 6 weights at the ready for trout; will hope to target Stripers with the 8 weight... hopefully, at Denison Dam's tailrace!

Here is a video describing the DIY Wooden Trout Net. It's not perfect but was cheap to make, can hold at least 10 pounds with no issue, and no longer have to deal with fumbling around with the release since this one is magnetic versus a clip like our old one!

DIY Wooden Trout Net | Do Over Anyone?

Had some issues with the DIY Wooden Trout Net that I made several seasons back. In colder weather the lacing tended to become stiff and did not open up well. Sure enough the trout were able to jump out of the net and back into the water.

Decided to order a net from Amazon. Net arrived yesterday, and in short order and a few zip ties later, I have a net that will definitely hold a fish or two! Do check out the video, added pictures at the end of the "Do Over" variation of the original net. Plus added a snippet of the video from the original net.

Blue River Fishing Tips | Suggestions To Keep In Mind | #blueriverok

This round we answer the mail concerning suggestions for fishing the Blue River, Oklahoma... this includes using the soldering iron for repairing kayaks to smooth the zip ties!

Specifically, we talk about the walking stick, landing net and modifications to it, and then the fishing flies we used to get our first trout and first limit this season.

Plus we added snippets of the YouTube Shorts - https://youtu.be/cflUkqLfi-s, that showed the Stop and Go Retrieve, as well as some recent pictures others posted of some nice trout caught on the Blue!

Check it out and keep the suggestions in mind next trip!
