Weekend Updates - May 10-11, 2008

Quick updates from this weekend's activities. Fished Bethany Lakes Saturday morning, a creek in Plano in the afternoon, and then fished Lake Lavon Sunday afternoon. Bethany Lakes produced two fish - a Sunfish and a Bluegill. A lot of activity, just could not connect. Used flyfishing gear and a Brown Nymph and Gangle-Legged Fly. The creek in Plano is located near John Carpenter Park west of Independence and San Simeon. Caught three fish working the banks and brush piles. Used flyfishing gear and a Brown Nymph. Lake Lavon at Brockdale Park produced 5 keeper-sized White Bass ranging in 12" to 14" in size. Also, caught and released 5 Yellow Bass and over 30 White Bass. Bethany Lakes - May 9, 2008

Fished Bethany Lakes' Main Pond. Caught four fish in the morning - a small Bluegill, a larger Bluegill, a 14" Bass, and a 13" Bass. Another fisherman caught a Catfish on a wacky-rigged lizard in green. Came back in the evening and caught an 8.5" Bass with a number of missed strikes. Video posted below. Bethany Lakes and Spring Creek - May 6 and 7, 2008

Fished Bethany Lakes' Main Pond yesterday. Caught one Bluegill on a Red and White Streamer. Think the recent rains changed the pattern and slowed the fishing activity. Today, fished Spring Creek in Plano just off of Chisum Trail. Caught a Sunfish and several Bluegill-like fish on a Prince Nymph Fly. Videos posted below. Shadow Lakes @ McDermott - May 5, 2008

Fished one of the feeder creek ponds at Shadow Lakes. Pond is just south of McDermott Road on the east side of Allen. Caught one 8.5" Sunfish and lost a few others. Bethany Lakes' Lower Pond - May 2, 2008

Celebration Park - May 1, 2008

Feeder Creek in Plano - April 30, 2008

Fished a feeder creek in the city of Plano. Creek is located at Spring Creek and Old Orchard Road and accessed from Custer Road. A running trail runs alongside it and is close to the Public Library on Custer Road. Caught two Sunfish of which one went 8.5" in size. Also, observed Bass and a Crappie in the creek. Bethany Creek Pond - April 28, 2008

Fished Bethany Creek Pond - a neighborhood pond just east of Bethany Lakes along Shadow Lakes Road in Allen. Caught a number of Sunfish and Bluegill ranging from 4" to 7.5" in size. Used flyfishing gear and a Prince Nymph just below the surface and a Gangle-Legged Dryfly on the surface. Caught and released over 20 fish. Video posted below. Lake Lavon @ Brockdale Park - April 27, 2008

Fished the point at Brockdale Park this afternoon. Caught a Catfish and 10 Yellow Bass on live Shad and Earthworms, respectively. Catfish went 15" in size. Yellow Bass ranged from 5" to 7" in size.

Lake Lavon @ Brockdale Park - April 26, 2008

Fished Lake Lavon at Brockdale Park. Strong breeze did not sway the fishing. Yellow Bass were congregating off the point and were readily taken using a bottom rig and earthworms for bait. Bethany Lakes' Canal - April 25, 2008

Celebration Park - April 23, 2008

Bethany Lakes - April 22, 2008

Lake Lavon @ Brockdale Park - April 22, 2008

Stopped by Brockdale Park this afternoon. Did not take any fish but did observe a group catching White Bass off the point to the right of the boat ramp.

Noticed consistent catches of keeper size White Bass. Bait used was freshly caught Shad using a cast net. Watched for about 30" and noted about 10 fish - all legal size, were caught and landed.

Auburn Springs - April 20, 2008

Shadow Lakes (AM) / Celebration Park (PM)

Fished one of the feeder creek ponds at Shadow Lakes Saturday morning. Caught several Bluegill, a small fingerling Bass, and then a nice Bluegill that went about 8.5"+ in size. Caught them flyfishing using variations of the Teeny Nymph. Went out later in the evening to Celebration Park. Caught small Bluegill and a small fingerling Catfish, and then a 20"+ Catfish. Gave a good fight and released all that were caught. Chummed with White Bread and then followed with baited hook with no sinker. Posted videos of both outings below and in the Video Player above. Bethany Lakes - April 18, 2008

Fished the Lower Pond this evening. Had a late start as repairs to a fence took precedence over fishing. Wind hit us hard again in Allen last night.

Was able to take a quick trip to Bethany Lakes and catch Bluegill using a Teeny Nymph. Fish were active and readily struck the fly even as darkness settled in over the pond.

Bethany Ridge Park - April 17, 2008

Bethany Lakes - April 14, 2008

Fished the Feeder Creek and Back Pond in the evening. Used flyfishing gear and a Teeny Nymph tied with Natural Color Pheasant Tail and Red Dacron.
