Landed one on a Weighted Wooly Spider - September 24, 2008 (AM)
Another try at Bethany Lakes' Lower Pond this morning. Lost a Bass but did hook and land another Bass on the Wooly Spider - Weighted. Picture posted below.

Bethany Lakes - September 23, 2008 (PM)
Went back to Bethany Lakes this evening. Caught a Sunfish on a Wooly Spider Clouser and lost a Bass, breaking off my fishing fly.
Cut the trip short and tied more Wooly Spiders. Used lead-wire to weight them in lieu of the dumbell eyes. Pictures posted below.

Bethany Lakes/Wooly Spider Clouser - September 21, 2008
Fished Bethany Lakes this morning. More of the usual except hooked and lost a nice Bass. Was flyfishing a variant of the Wooly Spider; modified by adding weighted eyes and tied Clouser-style.
Calling it a Wooly Spider Clouser. Was using a 4lbs test tippet and subsequently broke-off. Switched to the Foam Rubber Spider variant and caught Bluegill/Sunfish. Pictures posted below.
FYI: Did see others catching Bass with a nice one caught on spinfishing gear.

Two Hot-Air Balloons and Two Bluegill.
Fished Bethany Lakes this morning with no luck. Did observe two hot-air balloons launch from the park. Returned in the evening and caught two Bluegill. Observed a lot of fish activity but was unable to produce a Bass. Pictures posted below.

Catfish on the Wooly Spider!
Fished Bethany Lakes' Back Pond for another try at Bass. No strikes on Bass but caught a small Sunfish and a 14" Catfish flyfishing the Wooly Spider. Catfish struck the fly while fished in short-pulls of the line. Pictures posted below.

Archgate Park Pond - September 17, 2008
Fished a new place - Archgate Park Pond in Plano. Pond has a lot of trees and vegetation that limit access and makes it tough flyfishing. Managed to catch a 5" Bluegill and a 12" Bass using the Wooly Spider in Pearl Chennille. Pictures posted below.

Fished Bethany Lakes' Feeder Creek again this morning. Caught Bluegill/Sunfish flyfishing the Wooly Spider in Pearl Chennille and a size 8 Streamer hook. Pictures posted below.

Bethany Lakes' Back Pond - September 15, 2008 (PM)
Fished Bethany Lakes' Back Pond this evening. Caught two small Bass and Bluegill/Sunfish flyfishing the Wooly Spider. Had several hook-ups on two larger Bass but lost them after a short fight.
Changed things with the Wooly Spider, tied it using Krystal Flash for the tail, Pearl Chennile for the body, and White Rubber Legs. Also, replaced the size 10 Streamer hook with a size 8 Streamer hook. Pictures posted below.

Bethany Lakes' Feeder Creek - September 15, 2008 (AM)
Fished Bethany Lakes' Feeder Creek this morning. Caught Bluegill/Sunfish flyfishing the Wooly Spider. Did have a couple of strikes from Bass but again was unable to set the hook. Seems that the Bass are swallowing the fishing fly but immmediately spit it out. Will keep trying and reporting results. Pictures posted below.

Russell Creek Park - September 14, 2008
Fished Russell Creek Park's Pond. Caught Sunfish/Bluegill flyfishing the Wooly Spider and a Prince Nymph. Did get several strikes from Bass but was unable to set the hook. May need to make adjustment on the hook-size of the Wooly Spider.
Nice cool morning to fish, enjoyed the company of a Bird that wanted a snack or two. Picture of today's catch and a Bird slideshow posted below.

Wooly Spider Fishing Fly
Due to weather concerns was not able to fish today. Redirected efforts to tying fishing flies. Decided to combine a Wooly Bugger and Foam Rubber Spider. Pictures posted below. Calling it a Wooly Spider! Will post results next outing.

Bethany Lakes' Back Pond - September 11, 2008
Fished Bethany Lakes' Back Pond this evening. Caught Bluegill/Sunfish and four Bass flyfishing. Used a Prince Nymph and a Yellow Foam Rubber Spider Variant with most taken on the Spider. Pictures posted below.
Three of the four Bass were caught at dusk on a Spider twitched slowly and slightly below the water surface.

Celebration Park's East Pond - September 9, 2008
Fished Celebration Park's East Pond this evening to checkout the Catfish. Caught several Catfish and a small Bluegill on Bread. Largest Catfish went 20" in size, a couple went about 14" in size, all others ranged from 8" to 10" in size. Pictures posted below.

Bethany Lakes - September 7, 2008
Fished Bethany Lakes this morning flyfishing the Lower, Upper, and Main Ponds. Cool morning made for a comfortable outing.
Caught small Bluegill/Sunfish and four Bass flyfishing a Foam Rubber Spider Variant. Bass ranged from 3" to 13.5" in size. Pictures posted below.
Had more strikes but was unable to set the hook or lost them while bringing them in to the bank. Most fish were caught within 10 feet of the shoreline.

Unusual Catch in Plano - September 6, 2008
Received a fishing report from one of our readers of an unusual catch. The fish posted below was caught while fishing a pond in Plano Saturday morning. The fish weighed 1.2 lbs and was caught on light tackle using a boile for bait. Hats off to our Reader in Plano for reporting the unusual catch!

Fished Bethany Lakes again this evening flyfishing the Lower Pond. Windy and overcast made for fun when casting into the wind. Managed to catch small Sunfish on a Prince Nymph Variant. Pictures posted below.
